Self Introspection Leads to Success

5
OTA Chennai

I am a die hard aspirant who kept in mind the motto of “try one more time by self-introspection)” and achieved my dream after 7 attempts. i.e 4 conferences and 3 screen outs. I started my SSB journey in Jan 2012 (SSC tech 38) (conference out) and got recommended in Apr 2012 in Indian Coast Guard. But even though i was declared medically fit in Review Medical Board for Bilateral Cubitus Valgus (excess carrying angle), the seat for ICG in Ezhimala was filled and when i called the ICG HQ , they told me come fresh next time !!!!!!

Disheartened with bit anger, i wanted to cope with the psychological stress i was facing and quickly took up the job as Planning Engineer in a power plant construction company. The love for uniform kept the fire inside my heart burning and went to TGC-117 Bangalore in May 2013 ( Conference out) and later to SSC tech-41 to ALD in July 2013 (conference out again)prepared but lot of error in personality had crept in.  I did go to coaching when i was recommended in ICG in 2012 but consequent failures were still there as i was not exhibiting the ‘natural hero’ (who is there in every human) in my psychology and interviews.
Kept introspecting, practiced a lot of TAT and WAT SRT and SD by setting time for mock test on Sunday in a SSB simulated environment in my room!!(Psychologist narration was given to me by myself 😉 :).
Kept update about the current affairs just 1 month before SSB and recalled my idea of cantilever in Previous GTOs.
Self Introspection Leads to Success

About Coaching:
Yes friends i went to an Ex.Sr.GTO for guidance. But remember as we compare SSB to a battle, The IMA or OTA can only train you how to shoot, but it is us who have to apply the knowledge gained with the immense presence of mind.
SSB CRACK’s Role:
“My appointment to the psychologist” which i downloaded from SSB crack was a big turning point. i.e. It told the ways to develop OLQ while being ourselves.
Strategy to crack SSB:
  • TAT : real life crisis stories which i or my colleagues solved in my personal and official life.
  • WAT : crisis solving and team work related words  used in my profession, current affairs and hobbies
  • SRT : Repeated practice for good hand writing and i solved all the problems that i faced in real life and treated them as SRT. ( wrote only 36 logical ones in SSB)
  • Self Description: Asked the respective people about their opinion and wrote what kind of person i would like to be in personal and professional life by fine tuning it.
GTO:
  • No quarrelling in GD but requested genuinely when i wanted to put my points and listening to others and added my points by complimenting their points.
  • GPE: Logical step by step prioritizing of hurdles and time & resource available and action plan. and spoke 2 times.
  • PGT , HGT and FGT, CT as usual just helped as and when required and snake race they told not to put the figure of 8 but just cross the obstacle with snake . But i had missed the instruction !!! (how embarrassing it would be when whole team wondered why i was putting the figure of “8”) . Lecturette was on talibanisation of Pakistan (knowledge on current affairs helped here). A bold and step by step explanation of topic, with a good smile and eye contact throughout.
As interview was on the 4th day, he had the psych and GTO assessments on his table and gave me a rapid fire and i missed two. I kept everything in my mind and answered step by step in sequence with a natural smiley face. to recall i closed my eyes and recalled and told the answer. Not a single question on GK or current affairs!!! Of course very general technical and general physics questions. (Inertia and newton’s law)
A insulting question like: you have been recommended once but Conference out two times after that (sarcastically smile). What is the reason?
Ans : Sir, I had the OLQ during Coast guard FSB, but after one year the personality changed and had errors. So i have corrected them and this time i will recommended ( i was smiling but he dint !!!!)
It lasted for nearly 30 min and over.
Conference:
Me:Good morning everyone.
Dy Pres: Good morning. So you have sufficient experience in SSB it seems ( Sarcastic and laughing seeing my PIQ )
Me: (smiling) Yes i do have SIR.
DY Pres: OK rate your performance in the three techniques in the ascending order
 Me: Psych, interview and GTO
Dy Pres: Why GTO 3rd?
Me: I did mistake in Snake race and couldn’t finish CT exactly as GTO
Dy Pres: How do you rate yourself in your GTO group.
Me: I am no. One Sir,
Dy pres. : WHom do you rate next to you in GTO.
Me: Chest no. 42 Sir,
Dy. : How was stay ?
 Me : Fine sir.
Dy : thank you , you may leave now.
Friends, they are psychologically checking to suit the defense. i.e We may definitely try to our best and get failed. But the way you understand and correct you failure and attack and win battles (SSB). I have won my battle by becoming 6th rank in mechanical engineering in the merit list for SSC tech 42.

Got Recommended in 5th Attempt from Allahabad

2

Hi friends myself Diwakar Sharma from Bangalore, if there is will they is way for your destination. Friends I believe that our destination is based on our hardwork “Dream is not what we see in sleep. But dream is which does not let us sleep till we achieve it”. I was reported to Allahabad SSB on 02 January 2014 and it was ultimately experience for me because it was mine last attempt for SSB. And I make up my mind that this is mines last chance and I was aware that I will not get the same chance in coming future so, I prepared accordingly.

The first was end up with normal formality and evening we reported to respective hall for documentation. Then we proceed towards dinner.
And then I stated preparing for Battle 1 that is screening mentally. The screening is same thing which is helping the assessor weather you are fit to join prestige’s organization

Got Recommended in 5th Attempt from Allahabad

First day:-
We all reported to respective hall at 6: 45 AM for Battle 1 (screening). Firstly assessing officer briefed about screening then he started distributing question booklets and we are strictly informed that we are not allowed to open the question booklets until they are asked to do so.
They was 2 booklet (Verbal and non-verbal) give to us solve with 25 mints each booklets consisting of 50 question.
After that we have given 15 mints brake so that they can prepare for next test that is PPDT (Picture perception and description test)
Then we all calledby our NCO and JCO for test

Then they flash 1 picture, according to picture we have write few details like Mood, sex and age and action ( what is happing in picture) for this 1 mint is give write and followed by story for 4 mint.

Got Recommended in 5th Attempt from Allahabad

Then they took our answer sheet and send out from the hall for brake of ½ or 1 hour.
Then, they have divided the students into batches of 18. And one by one each group were called and 30 sec. given for go through, what we have written in sheet later one by one we started narrating our story.
Narrating of story play important role for your selection for next stage, I request you to kindly practice will in advance before you enter that hall and speak with confidence.
At 12:00 pm result was out and out of 76 candidates 30 candidates was retain for battle 2 and I was one among them.

Day Two:- ( Psych)
As I was practice pretty will so was able to complete the story on time. If I compare earlier attempts was unable to complete the story on time. But this time I was able to complete on time.
Moreover, I believe group studies and self analysis play important role in correcting my mistake in psychologies.
I know that no story is correct or wrong but when we discuss the same story with group of friends we can make few good story and correct our general mistake which we commits during writing and It help us build our imagination power to thing and understand the picture.
Next test was WAT- I have prepared few ppt on WAT and every day practice, which help me complete the sentence on time.
SRT – I was wrote 39 SRT out of 60 situation. This time I was pretty slow in writing the sentence because I was reading and understand then, I was given my responses.
It does not matter how much you have wrote in SRT but is matter how good you can write, by reading understanding the situation.
Self description test- I prepared will in advance for SD.
Day three and four GTO
This is only test which I always enjoy in whole SSB selection process. The golden rule for to complete the GTO series is to enjoy it with the group.
Always be in a group rather apart from group. During my GD I have spoken for 3 to 4 times but I make sure that whenever I spoke other should listen and I can contribute valuable point in GD.
Whenever you are doing any task in GTO ground make sure that you should have eye on what is happing around you. Take suggestion, Ides even though you have capable to complete the whole task by yourself.
During your GTO your GTO sir may be pressure you during your command task. But you should maintain you cool and relax attitude and keep smiling. This what I did during my command task.
If you don’t any idea then try help other. You should know that all the aspirant undergoing for SSB are like you have same potential like you So, never command them or control them, just help them during a task.
Interview
They is no hard and fast rule for SSB this what applicable for Interview. You should aware what you are and where you are lacking.
I would recommend if have 2 to 3 mock interviews with your friend, which will really help you to understand you and your mistake.
Or, you can write each and every interview question with answer and analysis it. This is what I did for my Interview.
Conference
By know my fate has been decided. During my conference they ask me few questions which they ask me in mine interview. I have give same answer what I have given during mine interview.
My conference was long. Ultimate i was satisfied with my conference; this is what happed with me for first time.
At last was waiting for mine result, I was really nervous because it was mine last attempt and that particular day I cannot forget movement reset mine life.
Ultimately 2 people got recommend and I was second person in that.
It was really high point of mine life and after this I am not expect anything in mine life.
I am joining officer training academy (OTA) on April 05, 2014.
“ Self believe and confidence is key mine success. So friends, never be disheartened
Take failure as stepping stone and move forward. Quieting is easy but fighting till last is real hero and worrier.”
May god bless you all  J

My Preparation for AFSB Interview, Recommended for IAF

5

Hi friends My name is Abhishek Lal from Giridih, Jharkhand. I would Like to share my journey of preparation for AFSB with you all. I decided to join armed forces when I was in 3rdyear of my engineering  and come to know that I will be commissioned as Lutienant which sounds good.( Lt. Abhishek Lal 😀 in IAF its Flying Officer which I come to know latter :p). I started preparing aptitude and GK  for AFCAT written exam, I went to Ambala for my exam with Anshu Pandit (my friend) there I saw an Officer in his blue IAF uniform and aviator, I was amassed by his personality, I was like “bhai aab to yahe chahiye” (I need that uniform).

To crack the AFSB and SSB interview, we recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

Exam went good I was expecting 150+ score and was quite sure that I will pass the exam. Result was expected to come in a month in mean while I start to gain knowledge about defense forces. Result was out within a month and I got 153 and cut off was 143. I was on cloud nine 😀 . I told my parents about the result they were very happy about it and this news went like fire in my family, everyone was happy about my result. I come to know that one of my close friend (Dinesh Kr Saroha) was also qualified, we selected Varansi centre on same date during our summer vacation. We both started our preparation for AFSB as he was from defense background he was having good knowledge about defense service and has SSB experience too; I tried to clarify all my doubts from him.

My Preparation for AFSB After I Got Screened Out

After our End Term exam I was having one month time left for afsb. I came home and start preparing for GD, PI, Story writing etc with the help of reference books on SSB interview and SSBCRACK website, I sensed that expectation of my parents has rises which was obese, but now I was under pressure 🙁  and finally day come I went Varanasi. I reached Varanasi about 10 am one day before my AFSB after sometime Dinesh came from Delhi, we check in a hotel near railway station and visited to Ganga Ghat in evening, had boat ride in high water of Ganga because of flood in Kedarnath. In morning we check out from hotel about 5:30 am and went to MCO in station.
At 6:00 am bus came and took us to AFSB which was at walking distance from station. We had our lunch, then went for Officer intelligence Test it went good 🙂 and then time came for PPDT  an officer give us description about the test and a very blur picture was shown on the screen and my mind went blank :p I was unable to come up with a story, but somehow I managed to write a very simple story which I have read during my preparation . I was not confident about my story And I was Screened out 🙁 .I call my parents and informed them, they told me “koi baat nahi beta come back”. But the question Do you have it in you ? keep on flashing in my mind. I can’t able to clear Phase I of AFSB how will I clear AFSB? And I come back to Ground Zero from Cloud nine :p
But the sprite of “bhai aab to yahi chahiye(Uniform)” was still alive in me, I can’t loss so easily My ego problem  ;). I went back to college and started to analysis my preparation and I come up with the conclusion that my preparation was theoretical not practical. So now the practical part started, I started to go for running every evening with Dinesh and the participated in 12.6 Km cross country race held in our college my position was 46 out of around 400 runners and Dinesh’s position was 27, cross-country boosted my confidence . I decided to become CR(Class Representative) of our class to gain some leadership experience and my class voted for me all my friends 😉 , Generally no one wants to become CR (why to take extra tension). I started to know more about myself which helped me a lot in my interview. I stared to analysis daily national and International news, relation between countries. And in mean while Gain some weight because at that time my weight was 52 Kg and height was 176cm that means I was Underweight now it is around 60 J. I kept myself away from negative thoughts and peoples. Watched LAKSHYA movie doesn’t know how many times. I went to Vaishno Devi with my college friends but it was not part of my preparation  😀
Finally time came for AFCAT exam and I again qualified, but I didn’t tell about it to my parents because I don’t want that fire again 😉 . This time four of my friend have qualified it and we all selected Dehradun AFSB on 28th of October, 2013. I called my parents on 27th oct and told them that I am in Dehradun :p for my AFSB and my cell will be switched off for 5-6 days I got my aashirwad which lead me to success. And then that battle begins two of my friend Dinesh and Amrit Kishore got screened out, I and V Vineet Kumar were screened In . My chest no. was 10 and his was 11 J , we got same room, same group and hell lot for fun. whole process went smoothly especially my interview and credit goes to my roommates (Sparsh Sharma, Raman Charak, V Vineet Kumar, Rohit Arora, Abhiram Pandey, Vaneet Verma, Mahesh Sharma, Rajat Banga and Chirag Goyal)  who were very friendly and make those 5 days memorable to My life. I was dam confident that I will be recommended and same happened, I heard Chest No 10 and I got my answer “Yes I have It In Me.. 😀 !!”  I was very happy but the very next moment when I realize that none of my friend got recommend I felt bad about it 🙁 . 4 recommend from our batch, recommended were asked to collect their luggage and go for form fill-up. We can’t able to meet after result was out L. I informed my parents about the result and it again went like fire again.. 😉 after all I was First one from my whole family to join Defense service 😀 .
After medical I was declared Fit for all branches, i.e. Flying, Technical and Ground Duty. Currently I am waiting for merit list for July 2014 course.
