What is Picture Perception and Discussion Test PPDT

0

Picture Perception and Discussion Test, commonly known as PPDT, is the test conducted on the first day of the SSB selection procedure along with the OIR (Officers Intelligence Rate) test. All the candidates who were able to clear the exam were called for Phase – II testing straight ahead.

The Conduct

In PPDT, you are shown a hazy and somewhat blurred picture and have to write a story relevant to the picture. You have to remain focused as the picture is hazy and is shown for about 30 seconds. After that, you would four minutes to write the story.

Tips for writing the story

  • The story should always be positive.
  • It should be realistic and which is why I would suggest you that put yourself in that situation before you look for a solution.
  • Use names of your friends as it will be easy for you to remember.
  • Make your own original story relevant to the picture and do not repeat any story that you have read earlier and bear no relevance to the picture frame shown. The basic format should be: a problem arises, the hero solves that problem, and hero feels happy about him solving the problem. Don’t forget the last step, it may seem unnecessary but in fact is very important.
  • Now coming to the narration of the story, the tip you can follow in this case is, by the time you finish your story, without wasting anytime you retell your story to yourself or read it loud enough to yourself without interrupting anyone in order to become confident at the time of narration in front of GTO, IO and psychologist.

Group Discussion

Now this is the crucial and one of the difficult parts, especially for the screened-out and the conference-out candidates. The other candidates also know about the procedure and the group discussion so generally the discussion is always heated and tense. Everyone wants to stand out in the group so that he can have the attention of the assessors. So it is common to have a fish market in the discussion.

Tips to deal with a heated argument/discussion

  • If given a chance then initiate the discussion, because it may standout all the candidates are experienced ones and would fairly know about the nature of a discussion.
  • In which case it will be very chaotic and annoying for you to speak your mind or tell your opinion. Therefore to avoid such a situation, speak when the argumentation is less.
  • The second important thing is that if in your GD, if candidates begin screaming to put some weight to their point then you should also raise your voice in order to make your point, but beware that your points should be valid and your tone should be normal. Also remember that the language you use should match the tenor and decorum of the room.
  • The other important point which you can follow is, during discussion when everyone will be quiet and will listen to others then you have to make sure that you will find that moment to speak out your point as it will help you to stand out in the group.
  • Give good and valid point to lead the story to a conclusion.

Dude, India Needs You!

This is a request for all to spare 10 minutes and read this piece, think upon it and share if you want. To begin with I would like to say that long gone are the days when ‘Country’ used to come first for us Indians, living in a materialistic world which is created by us only, we now also think about our country but this is the problem, that we only ‘Think’ and not ‘Act’. Everybody has a kind of patriotism inside them; remember how excited we used to be in primary school for the national festivals, slowly this excitement increased because we started waiting for a sure holiday in the form of 15th August and 26th January, now we don’t even care much. Now some of us do care but can’t act, some of us care and act as well; I believe we all must start to fall in the third category. Patriotism is something which is inborn, and I believe every Indian has it, it is inside you, you just have to realize.

Now coming directly to the point, I am now going to tell what I want to say through this article. India is guarded by the three major forces of defence, Army, Navy and Airforce. For any country these forces are very important, and Indian Defence Forces are filled with the best officers. Yet there is a shortage of officers, why? Because the forces don’t compromise with the quality, which is very right thing to be done, as it takes courage and determination to go and fight in extreme conditions. My point is that today’s youth, most of us are deprived of this feeling of working for the country, working in the forces. No doubt there are people who are totally passionate and gaga about fauj, yet there are people who don’t even want to try.

Why+to+Join+Indian+Army

The forces need the best, hence each one of us, who fill the eligibility criteria must go and try at least once. I have heard specially form top engineering students that they rather prefer corporate jobs, but seriously it is a request that you should at least give a thought once and try for fauj. Medical students, who have the brightest future in the private jobs, must also try. As our faujis who fight on the border need the best doctors to take care of them, I know you’ll get a little less of what you’ll get in private job but trust me the feeling you’ll get after working for the country will be incomparable. Give only a single chance, but do go for the SSB once in your life, who knows you turn out to be one of the bravest solider of India. The government takes care of everything right from your travelling to the food; all you are required to do is go!
There have been some of the bravest soldiers; the main aim of their lives was to serve in the forces, read their story you’ll be filled with motivation. The more number of options you get in ice-creams more are the chances for getting the ice-cream that you want, same is the case with the selection of officers the more of us go there the more becomes the chance of them to find the people they need. All in all it’ll take just a few days of your life and you’ll be able to live the best five days (at SSB), and if you get selected then the whole life will become something different. Inspire others to try for fauj, you’ll feel eventually that you are doing something for the country!
Somehow “One star on the shoulder is better and brighter than a thousand in the sky” .Inspire, get inspired and join the Indian Army, Navy or Airforce for an experience you’ll cherish and love, a decision you’ll always be proud of that you took. Dude! India needs you; yes you only, and each one of us.

Number of Attempts, Age Limits for NDA, AFCAT and CDS Exam

There are majorly three written exams conducted for enrollment of officers into the Army, Navy and Airforce. These exams are NDA (National Defence Academy) Exam, CDS (Combined Defence Service) Exam and AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) Exam. While the first two are meant for the induction of officers into the three wings (army, navy and air force), the latter is meant for only Air Force. This article is meant for giving you all information about the age limit of the three exams and also the number of attempts you can make for them.

NDA, AFCAT and CDS Exam Number of Attempts, Age Limits

  1. NDA Exam: There is no limit on the number of attempts you can make. However, it is essential that at the time of course commencement you have your passing certificate of 10+2. So in a way you can attempt for NDA when you are in 10+2 or when you have passed it. While giving NDA when you are still studying in 10+2 you start attempting only from NDA 2 exam of the year in which you have got in 12th. The age limit for NDA (for all the three wings) is between 16 ½ and 19 ½ years (both inclusive) at the time of course commencement.

CDSE 1 2014 Paper Analysis (OTA)

Hello friends, CDSE 1 2014 have been conducted and everybody has a general opinion about the paper, which is common for almost all kinds of UPSC papers that the level of General Knowledge was high. This time also CDSE exam consisted of three papers English, GK and Mathematics (not for OTA candidates). This article covers paper 1 (English) and Paper 2 (GK). Both these papers were of 2 hour duration and had 120 questions each. Maximum mark for each paper was 100 and the scheme of marking was same like previous years.

CDSE 1 2014 Paper Analysis English

The paper for English was of average standard and anybody who has studied English up to 12th in school could do most of it. The paper consisted of 2 passages (20 Questions in all) each in which one had to choose the appropriate word and fill in the blanks. The example for this type of question is abundantly given in CDSE Pathfinder. Another type of question was based on ordering of sentences (10 questions), there were questions on spotting of error (20 questions). There were comprehension based questions for which four simple passages were given and questions (total 15) were based on them. Then there were 11 questions on ordering of words in a sentence. The antonyms and synonyms were given in form of sentences this time instead of single word; there were 10 questions each on antonym and synonym. Four questions were also there in which a candidate had to choose the best option to complete the sentence. The different preparation books intended solely for CDSE have a lot of example of such questions which were there in the paper.

CDSE 1 2014 Paper Analysis (OTA)

CDSE 1 2014 Paper Analysis General Knowledge

The general knowledge paper was as usual tough. There is a running joke about GK of CDSE that most of the candidates say, that is thy complete the paper in 1 hour and read and re-read it to find and check whether they know anything else. The GK paper consisted of questions from all spheres like science, economy, Current affairs etc. There were ample of questions from Polity and to solve these questions only reading and knowing polity won’t help, you need to understand the concepts. Same was the case with economy. Some questions were very easy especially form the science section. Only a through and good study can help in GK paper, except for science of course as most concepts are from day-today life. However if you have managed to do well in the English paper then a normal GK will not harm you.
It is better to attempt less questions rather than attempting the questions which you are not too sure about. The cut-off will lie between 75-95 for OTA candidates, as is expected from the previous patterns. Now you can prepare for AFCAT and wait for the CDSE results. Good luck

LAST MINUTE TIPS FOR CDS EXAM 2019

So mates all set for CDS exams? As the CDS 1 2020 written exam will be conducted on 2 February 2020 Well I know you never feel fully prepared and are never sure of preparations until you give the exams. On that note let me give you some last minute tips for CDSE exam:

Last Minute tips for CDS Exam

  1. Revise all your formulas for Mathematics; I hope you must have made a small booklet or a collection of formulas so revise it again and again.
  2. Don’t go for reading an entirely new topic, just revise all previous ones.
  3. Clear up all the arrangements you have to make for going the exam, since many people get center out of city hence they must decide upon the transport and other stuff.
  4. Reach the exam hall at least half an hour before the commencement of the exam.
  5. Don’t take any gadgets inside the exam hall; mobiles, calculators etc. are strictly prohibited.
  6. Take a black ballpoint pen with you for the exam. This is very important because you have mark your answers on the OMR sheet, and on the admit card it is written that you must carry a Black Ballpoint pen, hence it becomes very important.
  7. You must also carry a photo ID card with you like Aadhar, Passport, DL etc.
  8. When you mark the answers on the OMR sheet be very careful that you are doing it in the right circle. As id you mark the wrong answer you’ll get penalty of negative mark.
  9. Though they give whitener when asked for in centers to correct your mistake in terms of choosing wrong option, yet it is advised to not commit a mistake anyhow. Though if you commit it, then don’t hesitate and ask for a whitener.
  10. It is advised to keep marking your answers alongside and not leave a bulk to mark in the end. Many people leave the answers to marked in end, but you should do it simultaneously as it will lessen chances of any mistake.
  11. Make sure you remember the exams you have to appear for. There had been a few cases where people have applied for IMA/AFA/NA but thinking that they are appearing for only OTA they have not attended Mathematics papers. Yet again there have been cases where people have applied for OTA only but have appeared for Mathematics; in this case your Mathematics paper won’t be evaluated.
  12. An old saying but would like to repeat it, that if you get struck in a question then move ahead and do not waste time on that question.
  13. Some questions in CDSE are long, hence be focused while you read the question. Be careful and avoid silly mistakes, better if you read the question twice.
  14. Do not plan to read the question paper once then start solving it. Solve while you read.
  15. Read and understand and listen to all instructions very carefully and remove any doubts in the beginning only.
  16. In the end it is all about passion. I know everybody who gives this exam has passion for ‘Fauj’ as they put in a huge amount of hard work. Believe in yourself and you will surely crack it!
All the best

When your reaction to a negative word is positive, it will be easy for you to make a sentence from the word. The tip is to form a positive idea from a negative word shown in the slide.
