Success Will Follow You If You Follow Your Values

2
OTA Chennai

Values are the priorities of life, which suggest how should you spend your time and make it a quality time. Once the priorities of life are decided it gives you utmost clarity in life of what your commitment areas are and you are forced to perform. Thus it leads to improved results and stress free life. Now don’t you think that priorities are important in our life.

Yes of course they are because of the following reasons:

  1. We have limited amount of time in life. In fact in this throat cutting world time is the most precious commodity. Those who use it wisely are successful and those who waste it are at loss. Even if you have a lot of money you would not be able to buy time for yourself and for your loved ones. Proper planning is needed for time management as its the toughest think to learn nowadays. As defence aspirants you must realise the value of time and should decide your priority areas to spend it judicially.
  2. We also have limited energy to spend. Some people spend it in wrong ways and then are left with disheartened life. Life is a gift of GOD for you and you should thank god for this. Specially for being a human who rides this world and on other species. Life could be beautiful if you learn how to spend your energy wisely.
  3. Limited distraction keeps you on track, if you are on track you could actually realise that you are diverting or differing from your success path. Life is known to give limited opportunities, excel in those as everybody is not born with a silver spoon. There would be a lot many things that will come your way to distract, but keep distance away with them.
    OTA Chennai
Now you might be thinking if values are so important how these could be incorporated. Values are something that you get along with your birth, because these are formed as a part of your nourishing only. The way you are brought up, the environment you spend time in design your values. Values develop sense of judging what is important for you in your life. Youth is a age where you either build your future or destroys it. Your behaviour is the reflection of your values and remember defence aspirants should be highly valued for clearing the SSB. Being a defence personnel you will be in midst of situations where values only will allow you to take firm decisions and that’s why in SSB they prefer to search for them. I remember the very famous quote which suites every aspirant:
3 golden rules of Vivekananda:
Who is helping you don’t forget them
Who is loving you, don’t hate them
Who is loving you, don’t cheat them
Remember you only get few who are special in life and they are your real treasure. Value them. For any other help/ counselling you can feel free to contact me .I would be happy to see you grow as an officer.

How To Gather Confidence To Win The Battle Of Survival At SSB

2
ssb interview

Confidence isn’t walking into the room with your nose up in the air, and thinking that you are better than everyone else, it’s walking into the room and not having to compare yourself to anyone else in the first place” ~~ Unknown

SSB is a battle and whosoever survives till last is the recommended candidate. Through the course of this special battle you not only need to show courage, but also other qualities that would be tested with time and various means. As you know SSB is service selection Board which is the recruitment board for the defence forces in India. It consists of very senior officers from the forces who are specially trained to get the best of the lot that comes in for SSB.

Confidence is something which comes with experience and knowledge. So if you are really a devotee of motherland and have the only dream to be defence personnel, get ready to gather knowledge for the same. It’s not at all difficult. In fact perfection should be in your habit because the OLQ’s that are evaluated are close to this only. The tasks the defence officers involve in are highly devotional and needs commitment to do so. Believing in your abilities will lead you to success path. It’s good to dream big but to convert into reality requires a lot of hard work and determination and hence the people who get selected finally have it in them.
Following are some of the points that will help you gather confidence:
  • Good personality is sometimes the reflection of your thoughts. Also it is said first impression is the last one so , it you look good half of the work is done
  • This means that you should maintain a good physique
  • Also communication skills add on to the personality, so practice well before giving any exam as now day’s interviewers give special preference to it.
  • GD’s are not a place of fish market but a place where sharing of ideas take place, hence gather knowledge and keep yourself updated with the latest happenings.
  • Present yourself what you are because faking something requires extra efforts and it reduces level of confidence.
  • While in PI establish eye contact and speak boldly. Also be clear to what you know and what you don’t because once the eye contact is lost it’s the signal that you don’t know things and are bluffing around.
  • Confidence is something that needs to build up and it takes time.
    IMA Cadets
I remember the below quote which reminds of the struggle before achieving success.
The more time you spend in your discomfort zone, the more your comfort zone will expand. ~~ Robin Sharma
So expand your horizons and start the hard work smartly. Queries could be sent at [email protected]. Helping aspirants would be my pleasure.

How To Impress The GTO In A Group Discussion

0
How To Impress The GTO In A Group Discussion

Group discussions are important part of any selection procedure as they give your clear picture regarding many qualities. How well could you gel with members of the team, do you have a leadership quality, do you want to gel with the members of a group, are you a good team player, can you handle conflict in a team. These are the essential qualities of any member of a team and all should know them. Also for an officer these are needed badly. In real life situations we get to see conflict, and we should know how to handle it properly. In battlefield if any matter shoots up within your team how you will handle it. What action will prevail in that important time? How will you satisfy the ego states of all the members simultaneously making no one feel offensive?

GTO wants to see a good human being in you. You should have the power to command and the power to resolve the conflicts. GD is all about expressing what you think for any particular topic and how your views differ / are similar with that of the group. Also how you tackle the difference or the gap if there is any. You should remember you are being judged for the following:
  • Communication skills
  • Listening skills
  • Team work
  • Depth of knowledge
  • Sharing comrade with the group
  • Leadership
  • Caring for others
  • Taking care of feelings of the group
    SSB Group Discussion

Various phases that come in a GD:
  1. Initiation: this forms a very important part of GD as the opener not always but yes has an added advantage. It requires a lot of courage to open about a topic which is given immediately. Also a participant should remember that if you have in detail knowledge of the topic and can talk relevant then only jump into this else it backfires too.
  2. Describing topic: this forms the middle part of the discussion where every member tries to pour in their views on the topic to make the discussion rich and healthy. Often the heard fish market situation arises in this phase only. Such situation should be avoided as there is always a sufficient time to speak your views and fights should not be done to get a turn. Also if you speak relevant the group hears you or else you are ignored by the group.
  3. Questioning: This is a phase where one member of group might raise an issue or a question to the other members. Such situations are meant to enrich the discussion and should not be taken as a chance to demean others. If done so you will be marked negative.
  4. Conclusion : Ideally the conclusion should be provided by the group at the end of the GD by themselves and this marks the perfect ending of it but if the fighting persists and the group was not able to conclude , officers might ask to do so. In such situations speak the groups point of view and not yours.
These were some simple things which if kept in mind can make discussions effective and worth listening. For other help I could be connected on FB and clear your doubts. Feel free to do so.

How To Achieve Success In PPDT

1
PPDT SSB Interview

SSB is a five day long selection process and where every individual is tested on various parameters and there is search of OLQ’s. Once the officer like qualities are found that individual is recommended at the end of fifth day. SSB seems to be a tough exam because the elimination ratios are very high here. A lot of people are eliminated on the very first day and very few get chance to stay there for the rest of the four days. But believe me those who make it are a changed personality altogether. You are made felt like an officer there and also treated like one. So first day is crucial to all and it comprises of written aptitude test followed by PPDT which means picture perception and discussion test. In this article let’s concentrate on PPDT so that you are ready to clear this round.

How To Achieve Success In PPDT

It’s a test where you are presented with a hazy picture and you are asked to write the following on a sheet of paper based on your imagination:
  1. How many characters you see in picture and their position needs to be marked in a box in answer sheet.
  2. What was the mood of the character, their sex and age?
  3. You are also asked to identify main character of your story.
This all needs to be done in 1 minute in which you might also asked to give a title to story. Then you get 3 minutes to write the story on it which should include past events, present scene and the future happening. The story should be clear and crisp. The following should be kept in mind:
  1. Hero should be of similar age as of you.
  2. Hero of story should do something great then only the word hero has a real meaning.
  3. There should be a problem in a story and it should be solved also.
  4. Story should be natural and acceptable to all. That means it should have actions that could be done by human beings.
    PPDT SSB
After this all are divided in small groups for the group discussion. Now you are asked to narrate story individually for about a minute and when everyone has done the same the GD starts to conclude. Now the impressive thing in this exercise is that since the picture was hazy everyone has different perception of story. Remember the following while doing group discussion:
  1. Don’t ever try to make a GD room a fish market. Since everyone tries to get his / her story implemented so it’s necessary that you should go with group and try to conclude.
  2. Enter at appropriate point to get group in one direction if there is digression.
  3. Don’t allow to form subgroups and if formed ask people to discuss collectively.
  4. Give chance to people who have not got one.
  5. Try to enter 2-3 times depending on time given with each time speaking for 30-45 seconds. The matter should be good enough to attract attention of all.
Few simple ways and you can clear the screening selection process. Start working on it and if you need any help connect to me on Facebook. It would be my pleasure to see you as an officer.

How To Prepare For TAT In Psychology Round

“It doesn’t matter if you have failed, if you had been beaten. All that really matters is if you get back up and try again. Because winning is fun, but winning when nobody thought you would, is just awesome.”

Thematic appreciation test is the very first test of the Psychology round that is conducted on candidates who clear the screening process. It consists of 12 stories out of which 11 stories are hazy and 1 blank slide is presented in front of candidate. You get 30 seconds to think and 4 minute to write the story. The hazy pictures are presented because it is assumed that the candidate will reveal happenings of his life, through the stories. Also through these hazy pictures different situations are shown and it is expected that the qualities of social adaptation, leadership, adventure, team work might come out. The blank picture is presented, so as to analyse the thought process of candidate and his ability to link with the sequence shown to him. This is also linked to his imagination power as through this blank slide the psychologist tries to gather the idea of what a candidate has in mind for his future. It might be linked to his/ her vision, mission of life.

It is also said that the qualities that the psychologist gathers are compared with those shown in PIQ and forwarded to GTO and PI officer for crosschecking. So if anyone wants to fake in SSB it is not at all possible because similar things would be checked throughout in all the processes and if they interfere then only can a candidate have his chances for recommendation. Now everybody would be thinking of how to write an effective story. So here it is.

OTA Chennai

Remember your story should have the following:

  • A hero performing some action
  • Description of environmental conditions
  • Different characters
  • Main theme and story should revolve around that
  • Past, present , future related events of story
Few tips to make stories effective:
  • Hero of story as framed by you should have a name
  • Hero should deliver an action which is possible in real life.
  • Theme of story should be positive, try to show your optimistic nature.
  • Age , sex and mood of the hero and relevant character should also come out of story
  • Try avoiding grammatical errors to make story more effective
  • It should be written clearly, so that the efforts of psychologist goes in extracting qualities and not in guessing what is written
  • Try to convert negative pictures also  in positive tone
I still remember the following lines: ‘Your future begins with your next thought’ ~~ Bryant McGill. And it’s true give a thought before penning down to create your future. Feel free to get in touch with me for quick tips and converting your dreams into reality.

Where and How To Demonstrate Leadership In SSB

0
Leadership quality in ssb interview

Leadership is an important Officer Like Quality (OLQ). An officer is expected to be good leader as the responsibility of many people is on him/her and moreover as an officer you are expected to take decisions and execute them at the spur of the moment. In SSB out of the various qualities which are checked leadership hold great importance. So you have to project yourself as a true leader. Gone are the days when leaders were born not made, each one of you is a leader, it’s just the matter of projection. In this article I am penning down a few situations where you can project your leadership. Before you read that, keep one thing in mind always, there is difference between being a leader and being bossy, a leader leads by example, a leader cares for his subordinates.

  1. Progressive Group Task: Here you have a good chance to project yourself as a leader only if you do the things rightly. As a leader you are required to give ideas and not only give but execute them practically. Leadership here doesn’t means that you have to keep dictating your ideas and expecting people to follow you, you have to practically execute it. Now if you don’t have ideas then help the idea which is being executed. Many times candidates fight for the helping material, shout at each other, which is not expected out of a good leader. Thus in PGT you can demonstrate leadership by giving logical and worthy ideas, helping practically, when the group is struck without any idea then trying and thinking for a solution, being calm and cool with your group mates. Remember NEVER SHOUT on your group mates. Divide the work, assign work to your groupmates.
  2. Group Discussion: You can demonstrate your leadership in GD by speaking only relevant points. Be receptive to others views as well and respect their views. If you disagree with somebody’s points then mention it politely. It is a discussion and is expected to be carried out in a gentlemanly and lady-like manner. Don’t speak when other are shouting on the top of their voice. Remember quality takes over quantity, hence speak less but speak solid things.
    Indian Air Force Officer
