Sports Events In August 2013 Cricket                                                                  

  • India ‘A’ defeated Australia ‘A’ in final of tri series, this tournament was played in south Africa. The third team of this tri series was South Africa. Indian team was lead by Cheteshwar Pujara. It is fifth time when India won ‘A’ tournament.
  • India white washed Zimbabwe by 5-0 in their home in one day series. It is first time for India to win a series on foreign land with 5-0.indian side was lead by Virat Kohli, Zimbabwe was lead by Brendan Taylor. Amit Misra emulated record of Javagal Srinath of 18 wickets in a series.
  • Ravindra Jadeja moved to number 1 in ICC one day ranking in bowling, he is 4th Indian to top the list till now. Before jadeja Kapil Dev, Maninder Singh and Kumble have retained top ranking.
  • ICC world cup 2013:- ICC 11th world cup will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand over Feb-Mar 2015. ICC announced detailed schedule of the matches in Melbourne. Total 14 teams will fight for the title.
  • England won ashes with 3-0. Other 2 match were draw with Australia.

  • Cincinnati open tennis tournament:-Spaniard Rafael Nadal defeated US player John Isner to win men’s single title. Victoria Azarenka (this title first time) lifted women’s single title by defeating US player Serena Williams.
  • Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli said good bye to tennis:- Just over a month after capturing her first career Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, Marion Bartoli shocked the tennis world with an abrupt retirement announcement in Ohio.
  • Rogers Cup 2013:-Rafael Nadal picked the trophy of men’s single by defeating Canadian Milos Raonic while Serena Williams (third Rogers cup of carrier) took the women’s single title by defeating Romanian Sorona Cristea.
  • WTA new haven open:- Indian tennis player Sania Mirza lifted the women’s doubles trophy at the WTA New Haven Open along with her partner Jie Zheng of China.

  • Junior women hockey world cup 2013:- The Netherland team won the final against Argentina. Indian girls created history by winning country’s first ever bronze medal in the junior women hockey World Cup as they pipped England. The tournament was played at Mönchengladbach, Germany. Defender Sushila Chanu captained the Indian side and Shona McCallin captained the English side. Indian forward Rani was declared the Best Player of the Junior Women Hockey World Cup 2013.

  • World badminton championship 2013 ( Guangzhou, china):- In Men’s single Chinese superstar Lin Dan took the badminton world title for a fifth time after his arch rival Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia was stretchered off the court in the third game. Lee Chong Wei retired. While in women’s single Thailand shutler Ratchanok Intanon defeated Chinese ace li xuerui for gold.
  • Indian shutler PV sindhu won bronze in women’s single. She was defeated by Malaysian Ratchanok Intanon. Sindhu is first Indian women to get bronze in world badminton championship.

  • World athletics championship’s 14th edition completed in Moscow, Russia. Russia got 7 gold and total 17 medals and first rank, US with 6 gold and total 25 medals on second and third place was for Jamaica with 6 gold and total 9 medals.
  • Usain bolt again clinched gold in 100 and 200 m. In women 100 m again Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took first position.
  • Edna Kiplagat became the first woman to retain the marathon world title when she eased home on Saturday to earn the first gold medal on the opening day of the World Athletics Championships.
  • The next world athletics championship will be held in Beijing in 2015.

  • Archery world cup stage 4:-In the Women’s Recurve Team final, the sixth seeded Indian team of Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Rimil Buriuly defeated the top seeded South Korean team of Yun Ok-Hee, Ki Bo Bae, and Joo Hyun Jung, to clinch the Gold. This is the Indian trio’s second successive Gold. They had brought success to the country in July 2013, after winning the Stage 3 meet at Medellin, Colombia.

  • Red bull driver Sebastian vettel won Belgium f-1 G.P. Ferrari Fernando Alonso was 2nd and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes was third.
  • 27th Asian basketball championship won by Iran .it defeated Philippines.
  • Germany won women’s euro cup 2013 final 6th time by defeating Norway.
  • Bridgestone golf tournament:-world number one golfer Tiger Woods won the title 8th time.
  • World swimming championship 2013 was held in Barcelona, Spain.US won 15 gold and total 34 medals with first place. China got 14 gold and total 26 medals, and third was Russia with 9 gold and 19 total medals. Missy Franklin of USA won record 6 gold at swimming world championship. She is the only woman swimmer to do it in same version of game.
  • India’s number one snooker player, Aditya Mehta on 31 July 2013 clinched the gold.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award:-Double Trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi was recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
  • Indian Police Sportspersons won 83 Medals at World Police & Fire Games-Belfast 2013 :-The 39-member Indian Police team won 83 medals at the World Police & Fire Games held at Belfast from 1 August to 10 August 2013.
  • Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea in the final at the Eden stadium in Prague on 30 August 2013 to win UEFA Super Cup 2013.
