  • Bhim Sain Bassi, the 1977-batch IPS officer of AGMU cadre took over the charge as the next Delhi Police Commissioner on 31 July 2013.
  • FDI to increase in Print Media:-INS on 2 August 2013 approved a proposal to increase FDI from 26 percent to 49 percent in print media.
  • The 23rd Governor of RBI:-Raghuram Govind Rajan was on 6 August 2013, appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a time period of three years. He succeeded D. subarao.
  • Maharashtra became first state to disburse Salary through Aadhaar linked Bank Accounts:-State Government of Maharashtra became the first state in the country to disburse salary of its staff through Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
  • 29th State of India announced by UPA and Congress Working Committee:-Congress and the UPA have unanimously decided to create a separate Telangana State carving out from Andhra Pradesh. In the aftermath YS Jaganmohan Reddy resigned as a member of the Parliament. He resigned to mark his protest against the unilateral decision of Congress to divide Andhra. This decision also ignited other small state formation demands.
  • Janata Party was merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 11 August 2013
  • Submarine INS Sindhurakshak damaged in a Fire Incident in Mumbai:-A major fire broke out on board INS Sindhurakshak at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 14 August 2013 resulting sinking of the submarine.
  • New Director General of the CRPF:-Senior IPS officer Dilip Trivedi on 17 August 2013 was appointed the Director General of CRPF
  • Dr. APJ Kalam Launched his new book:-My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions by APJ Abdul Kalam was launched in the month of August 2013 by the Rupa Publication.
  • RTI Applications Online in All Government Ministries:-Citizens can now file RTI applications online in all central government ministries and departments through a portal.
  • Maharashtra Government approved Anti-Black Magic and Superstition Ordinance:- Anti-Black Magic and Superstition Ordinance adopted by Maharashtra Government. The ordinance was adopted after death of Dabhokar, the social activist.
  • IAF created a world record by landing C-130J Super Hercules Transport Plane at Daluat Beg Oldie Airstrip. This is the World’s highest airstrip.
  • Rajasthan Government Laid Foundation Stone for World’s Largest Solar Park:-State Government of Rajasthan laid the foundation stone for world’s biggest solar park at Bhadla of Jodhpur District of Rajasthan.
  • National Food Security Bill passed in Lok Sabha:-Lok Sabha passed the National Food Security Bill. The Bill now needs to be passed by the Rajya Sabha along with the President’s assent to become a law. Government announced that an estimated 614.3 lakh tonnes of food grains would be required to ensure successful implementation of the proposed FSA.
  • Rajya Sabha Passed the Representation of the People (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2013:-The Rajya Sabha on 27 August 2013 unanimously passed the Representation of the People (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2013 to amend the RP Act, 1951.
  • Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011 Passed by the Lok Sabha:-The Lok Sabha on 29 August 2013 passed the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011, also called the Land Acquisition Bill. The aim of the bill is providing fair compensation to people whose land has been taken away for setting up the buildings or factories. The aim of the bill is to bring in more transparency to the process of land acquisition.
  • GSAT–7, India’s first Defense Satellite launched successfully:-GSAT-7, the first Indian defense satellite was launched by the European Arianespace’s Ariane 5 Rocket from the Kourou Spaceport of French Guiana.
  • Two terrorists were arrested in one month:-One of India’s 20 most wanted terrorists, Abdul Karim Tunda, was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from the Indo-Nepal border. The wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba man, arrested with a Pakistani passport issued in January this year. Tunda, was wanted in 21 cases, is accused of masterminding over 40 bomb blasts. Another terrorist Yasin Bhatkal, the co-founder of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), was arrested from the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Raxaul town on 29 August 2013.
  • India’s GDP Dropped:-The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of India decelerated even more to 4.4 percent, the slowest rate of expansion since 2008 economic meltdown.
  • Ahimsa Messenger Programme launched:-UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi launched Ahimsa Messenger Programme – an initiative to curb violence against women on 31 August 2013 at Delhi.
