The Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, honoured its top-performing units during the Raising Day ceremony with the presentation of the prestigious Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR) Banner for the year 2023-24.

This coveted recognition celebrates the exemplary dedication, professionalism, and operational excellence of the units that have played a pivotal role in maintaining peace, security, and stability in some of the nation’s most challenging and strategically important regions.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of 4 Assam Rifles as the winner of the DGAR Banner 2023-24. The unit was lauded for its outstanding all-round performance in operational effectiveness, discipline, civic action, and administrative efficiency.

Their relentless commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and active engagement with local communities stood out as a benchmark of excellence.

Following closely, 3 Assam Rifles was declared the first runner-up, in recognition of its high operational readiness and consistent service in counter-insurgency duties. 36 Assam Rifles was named the second runner-up, acknowledged for its steadfast professionalism and contribution to internal security operations.

The DGAR Banner is awarded annually after a rigorous evaluation process, taking into account the performance of each unit across multiple dimensions, including combat preparedness, administrative management, welfare initiatives, and alignment with the core values of the force.
