The Western Air Command plays a pivotal role in safeguarding India's western frontiers, and under Air Marshal Mishra's leadership, it continues to focus on readiness, infrastructure modernization, and personnel welfare, ensuring the Indian Air Force remains a formidable force in the region.

Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command, conducted an operational visit to forward air bases in the western sector on February 28 and March 1, 2025. This visit aimed to assess the operational preparedness and combat readiness of these strategically vital installations.

During his visit, Air Marshal Mishra engaged in comprehensive reviews of the bases’ operational capabilities, ensuring that they are equipped to address any regional security challenges. He interacted with air warriors, acknowledging their dedication and professionalism in maintaining high standards of operational efficiency.

A notable aspect of his visit was his participation in air maintenance operations, where he flew a mission aboard a Chinook helicopter. This hands-on approach underscores his commitment to understanding the operational dynamics and challenges faced by the personnel in real-time scenarios.

Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra assumed command of the Western Air Command on January 1, 2025, succeeding Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha. Commissioned into the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot on December 6, 1986, Air Marshal Mishra brings extensive experience and expertise to his role. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he has also attended the Air Force Test Pilots School in Bangalore, the Air Command and Staff College in the USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has held several key command and staff appointments, including serving as the Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron and as the Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE). In recognition of his exceptional service, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
