In a significant move to highlight and preserve the legacy of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), the inaugural edition of the DGAFMS Newsletter titled “AFMS JOINT- Care & Connect” was officially released today by Surg VAdm Arti Sarin, AVSM, VSM, the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS). The event marks a pivotal moment in fostering a sense of community and professional pride among AFMS officers and personnel.
The newsletter, initiated under the guidance of Surg RAdm Vivek Hande, VSM, Senior Consultant (Medicine), and his team, aims to serve as a quarterly publication that will encapsulate the rich history, professional milestones, academic achievements, and personal tributes, including obituaries for departed colleagues, within the AFMS. It is designed to be a comprehensive source of information, bringing to light the various facets of medical service within the armed forces through pictorial and anecdotal presentations.
The launch event was attended by senior military officials, showcasing the unity and collaborative spirit of the AFMS. The newsletter’s release is expected to have a wide readership, serving as an informative bulletin that not only celebrates the achievements but also strengthens the bonds within the medical community of the armed forces.
Surg VAdm Arti Sarin’s appointment as DGAFMS is particularly noteworthy as she represents one of the highest-ranking women in the Indian Armed Forces, following in the footsteps of trailblazers like Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar who congratulated her on this significant role. This appointment underscores the increasing role and recognition of women in high echelons of the military medical services.
The initiative of the newsletter aligns with broader efforts within the AFMS to enhance medical training, service delivery, and civil-military collaboration in areas such as medical research, accreditation, and professional training. This reflects a shared vision to improve the effectiveness and reach of medical services, ensuring comprehensive healthcare solutions for both military personnel and the civilian population.
