Commodore (Cmde) SM Urooj Athar, Cmde (Naval Education) and Vice Chairperson of the Naval Education Society (#NES), conducted a comprehensive review of educational facilities in Kochi during his visit from 15-17 January 2025. The visit encompassed key naval education institutions and provided an opportunity to assess infrastructure, interact with staff and students, and evaluate alignment with national education policies.
During his visit, Cmde (NE) toured the Naval Institute of Education and Training Technology (NIETT), the Central Reference Library, and the Examination Centre (INOES). He held discussions with education officers of the station, gaining insights into their operations and emphasizing the importance of innovative teaching methodologies to strengthen the Navy’s educational ecosystem.
Focus on Early Childhood Care and Education
Cmde (NE) visited the Naval Kindergarten (NKG) at the Naval Base, Kochi, where he interacted with staff and students. He lauded the management’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, ensuring a nurturing environment for young learners. Cmde (NE) commended the school’s alignment with the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) goals outlined in the National Education Policy 2020 (#NEP2020).
Empowering Students with Special Needs
At Sankalp, Kochi, the school dedicated to children with special needs (CWSN), Cmde (NE) was briefed on recent facility upgrades designed to support the holistic development of students. He appreciated the school management and staff for their exceptional efforts in empowering students to become self-reliant citizens, emphasizing the importance of inclusive education in shaping the future.
Leadership and Faculty Development
In his capacity as Vice Chairperson of NES, Cmde (NE) reviewed the Indian Naval Children School (INCS), Kochi. He praised the dedication of the management and staff in delivering quality education and underscored the critical role of the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD), Kochi, in organizing Faculty Development Programs (FDPs). These initiatives, aligned with NEP2020, aim to enhance the professional growth of educators across Naval schools.
Cmde SM Urooj Athar’s visit reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to providing world-class education for its personnel and their families, as well as fostering an inclusive and forward-looking educational environment.
