The grand Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is set to commence on January 13, with an estimated attendance of over 400 million pilgrims from across the globe. With the influx of visitors, including VVIPs, and potential security threats, authorities have ramped up security measures, entrusting the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos with the responsibility of ensuring a safe and secure event.
Deployment of NSG Commandos
A total of 200 NSG commandos will be deployed for the Mahakumbh. Currently, 100 commandos have already taken charge, divided into four teams, each comprising 50 commandos. Two teams have arrived at the Mahakumbh site and were airlifted via helicopters with advanced weaponry. The remaining teams are expected to join shortly.
Suspicious Activities Under Strict Surveillance
In addition to NSG commandos, 30 teams of Special Police Response Teams (SPARTS) have been assigned to monitor suspicious activities and individuals. Of these, 18 teams are already active, with the rest scheduled to begin operations soon. These teams have been sourced from various states, including Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir.
Comprehensive Security Measures
The Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned to make Mahakumbh 2025 a historic event. Alongside the NSG, 15,000 police personnel from 70 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been deployed. Officers are working in three shifts of eight hours each to ensure round-the-clock security.
Infrastructure and Safety Enhancements
This year’s Mahakumbh spans an area nearly double that of previous events, necessitating significant upgrades to infrastructure. The number of police stations, checkpoints, fire stations, and parking facilities within the Mela zone has been substantially increased. Special arrangements have also been made for the health and well-being of security personnel.
Authorities remain vigilant and committed to ensuring a peaceful and successful Mahakumbh, which is anticipated to draw not only pilgrims but also global attention.
