In a ceremonious gathering at Puri Beach, Odisha, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the Navy Day celebration, highlighting the significance of the day marked annually on December 4th. The event also featured an impressive Operational Demonstration executed by the Indian Navy, showcasing the strength and capabilities of India’s maritime forces.
In her address, President Murmu extended her greetings to all naval personnel, emphasizing the occasion not only as a celebration of the Indian Navy but also a time to reflect on the glorious victory achieved during the 1971 war. She paid homage to the selfless service and sacrifices of naval officers, declaring that the entire nation stands in gratitude and salutation for their commitment and bravery in protecting the motherland.
Underscoring India’s rich maritime history, the President noted the strategic advantages brought about by the country’s geographic layout, which includes a lengthy coastline, extensive island territories, and a culturally seafaring populace. She illustrated how these elements have historically facilitated India’s maritime activities for over 5,000 years, marking the nation as a formidable maritime power with a legacy interwoven with the seas.
President Murmu expressed her optimism for the future, stating that it is through the diligent efforts of the Indian Navy that India can secure its maritime interests, an essential aspect necessary for achieving the vision of a developed India by the year 2047. Highlighting the Navy’s progressive stance on gender inclusivity, President Murmu praised the organization’s role in empowering ‘Nari Shakti’ or women power. She noted that the Navy was the first defense service to initiate the induction of women Agniveers, marking a significant shift in traditional gender roles within the armed forces. The President pointed to the remarkable achievements of two women naval officers, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, who are currently circumnavigating the globe aboard the vessel INSV Tarini as part of the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama II’ mission. This, she asserted, serves as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
