Orbit Communications Secures $9.1 Million Contract for Satellite Communication Terminals from Israeli Defense Forces

Orbit Communications Systems has secured a substantial contract worth $9.1 million to supply multi-purpose satellite communication terminals (MPTs) for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). This contract is particularly significant as it emphasizes the need for reliable communication capabilities in challenging operational environments, highlighting the essential role such technologies play in modern military operations.

The MPT package will be integrated with various roll-on/roll-off and mobile platforms, ensuring continuous connectivity for the military even in difficult terrains. These terminals will use Orbit’s proprietary MPT-30 and MPT-46 dish variants, specifically designed to meet high data transmission and reception requirements. This advanced technology is engineered for compactness while providing impressive performance, with download speeds reaching 126 megabytes per second and upload speeds of up to 29 megabytes per second. Such capabilities are crucial for warfighters needing to stream live video and transmit real-time information efficiently.

Furthermore, Orbit has ensured that the satellite dishes align with both US military and civilian standards, as well as adhering to international and national communication regulations. This compliance guarantees that the terminals can be utilized for international intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, further enhancing their operational versatility.

The delivery of these sophisticated terminals is set to begin in 2025, signaling a significant development in the IDF’s communication capabilities. Orbit’s CEO, Daniel Eshchar, expressed pride in this strategic win, noting that it reinforces Orbit’s position as a trusted technology partner for defense organizations globally. Eshchar highlighted the confidence shown in the company’s technological capabilities, which extend beyond Israel to include various maritime, ground, and airborne platforms, serving customers that include the US military and NATO nations.

This contract for Israel’s tactical satellite terminal project follows Orbit’s recent collaboration with Viasat, which was announced in July 2024. This partnership aims to integrate Orbit’s MPT devices with Viasat’s airborne platform offerings, showcasing a commitment to advancing military communication technology.

In addition to securing this contract, Orbit recently unveiled its lightweight 12-inch MPT-30 and 18-inch MPT-46 dish models in March, further expanding its product lineup and reinforcing its innovative approach in the satellite communication sector. As the military continues to modernize and enhance its operational capabilities, Orbit’s contributions are poised to play a critical role in supporting these evolving needs.
