Nepal Army Chief General Sigdel Discusses Defense Cooperation During India Visit

Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel has commenced a significant four-day visit to India from December 11 to December 14, aimed at strengthening bilateral defense relations and enhancing regional security cooperation. During his visit, General Sigdel engaged in discussions with Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, focusing on a range of defense issues and mutual interests.

On his first day in India, General Sigdel paid homage at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, honoring the memory of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. This gesture highlights Nepal’s commitment to shared values of courage and sacrifice. Following the tribute, he received a guard of honor at the South Block, underscoring the respect and significance of this diplomatic visit.

In addition to his meeting with General Dwivedi, General Sigdel held discussions with several key figures in India’s defense establishment, including Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. These meetings facilitated an exchange of views on a broad spectrum of defense and security matters, reinforcing the relationship between Nepal and India.

As part of the collaborative efforts, Indian Army Chief General Dwivedi announced the gifting of a target practice drone and medical equipment related to field hospitals during his meeting with General Sigdel. This gesture strengthens the framework of defense cooperation between the two nations. Discussions also encompassed security challenges facing India, with insights provided to General Sigdel regarding current and future security strategies.

Furthermore, General Sigdel engaged with representatives from the Indian defense industry, exploring potential areas for joint initiatives and cooperation. The significance of these interactions reflects the ongoing endeavor to bolster defense collaboration between the two neighbors.

The Nepal Army Chief’s visit is poised to serve as a pivotal step in promoting enduring defense ties, with scheduled discussions likely to yield beneficial agreements that address both nations’ security interests.
