The Indian Navy is set to showcase its formidable capabilities with a grand Operational Demonstration (Op Demo) off the coast of Puri, Odisha, as part of the Navy Day 2024 celebrations. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, is expected to draw significant attention with President Droupadi Murmu attending as the chief guest. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi will oversee the proceedings, accompanied by the Governor of Odisha, the Chief Minister, and various Union and State Ministers, along with distinguished military dignitaries.
This spectacular event marks only the second time the Indian Navy is organizing such a large-scale demonstration outside a major naval station. The Op Demo will feature units with a combined weight of 90,000 tonnes, highlighting the Navy’s operational capabilities. The showcase will illustrate advanced weaponry and sensors capable of neutralizing threats from surface vessels, submarines, and aerial incursions within a broad radius of 300 kilometers.
In addition to the impressive hardware, the event will see over 3,500 personnel actively engaging in operations at sea, along with 350 personnel coordinating activities onshore to ensure smooth execution of the demonstration. This show of strength not only reflects the Indian Navy’s advancements in indigenous technology but also aligns with the Indian government’s commitment to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ or self-reliant India.
The Navy Day 2024 celebrations underline India’s vision of being the ‘Preferred Security Partner and First Responder’ in the Indian Ocean Region. This commitment is driven by the overarching policy framework of Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR), which aims to enhance regional stability and security while fostering mutual cooperation among nations in the area. The demonstration is poised to reinforce the Indian Navy’s status as a key player in promoting stability and security across the strategically significant Indian Ocean.
