In a compelling address at the Idea & Innovation Competition and Seminar of the Indian Army, titled ‘Inno-Yoddha 2024-25’, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized that innovation extends beyond mere terminology; it embodies a mindset that fuels progress and molds the future. The event, held in Delhi, served as a platform to celebrate creativity and problem-solving among participants, showcasing the Indian Army’s commitment to evolving its capabilities.

General Dwivedi congratulated the contributors, acknowledging the extensive effort that underpins each innovative idea. He stated, “Behind each idea, there are countless hours of thought, research, and testing, a testament to their determination to contribute to the force and the nation.” This recognition highlights the significance of individual initiative and teamwork within the army’s innovative endeavors.

Inno-Yoddha is designed to unearth and promote internal innovations that address current capability gaps within the army. With a focus on enhancing operational, logistical, and training capabilities, the initiative aims to improve the overall effectiveness of the armed forces, particularly in light of the operational challenges posed by diverse terrains, varying climatic conditions, and potential adversarial threats.

The annual competition encourages soldiers to think creatively and devise solutions inspired by their on-ground experiences. The innovations presented during Inno-Yoddha will be further developed through collaboration with the Research and Development (R&D), Design and Development (D&D), and Army Technology Board (ATB). The ministry’s statement underscored that successful advancements will be ruggedized and subsequently transferred to the industry for the mass production of products tailored to the Indian Army’s specifications, aligning with the broader ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative aimed at self-reliance.

During the seminar, General Dwivedi recognized 22 standout innovations, which will be advanced for production in collaboration with the Army Design Bureau to meet the tactical needs of various field formations.

The Inno-Yoddha initiative has witnessed remarkable success over the past four years, resulting in the filing of 26 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) applications and the completion of 21 innovative projects. This track record underscores the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to harnessing the ingenuity of its personnel to drive operational improvements and enhance national security.
