Residents of Hyderabad experienced an unexpected thrill on Thursday evening as the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) took to the skies for rehearsal flights ahead of an anticipated air show. The spectacle took place above the city in preparation for a performance scheduled for this Sunday near Hussainsagar Lake, as confirmed by an official from the aerobatic team.
The rehearsal maneuvers are expected to continue into Friday, with a tentative plan to showcase the final performance on December 8, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Numerous residents expressed their excitement as they witnessed the aircraft flying at lower altitudes than usual, offering a rare and exhilarating view of the skilled pilots at work.
Sridhar, a local resident from Kachiguda, described his surprise when he heard the roar of the jets at around 4 p.m. “I was working from home when I heard a loud noise. Looking out my window, I saw two jets flying low, then climbing altitude while performing stunts,” he shared. His account reflects the marvel felt by many who were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the daring aerobatic displays.
Aakash, a 23-year-old college student, also recounted the exhilarating moment he witnessed the aircraft while on the Durgam Cheruvu bridge. “I stopped my vehicle to record the jets, but they disappeared into the sky before I could take out my phone,” he stated, highlighting how quickly these aerial performers could vanish into the vast sky after executing their breathtaking routines.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team has been an emblem of the Indian Air Force since its formation in 1996. Operating under the No. 52 Squadron from the Bidar Air Force Station in Karnataka, the team comprises 13 highly skilled pilots.
