Army Launches ‘Krishna Ghati Premier League 2024-2025’ in Jammu and Kashmir

In a significant initiative to promote sports and foster community engagement in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army has officially launched the inaugural season of the ‘Krishna Ghati Premier League (KGPL) 2024-2025’. The event, organized by the Nangi Tekri battalion under the Krishna Ghati brigade, aims to become a major cricketing highlight in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

The KGPL is making headlines not only for its ambition but also for its impressive cash prize pool of Rs eight lakh, positioning it as one of the most lucrative cricket leagues in the Pir Panjal region. This tournament is poised to captivate local audiences, inspiring the youth and uniting communities through their shared passion for cricket.

A total of 32 teams are participating, representing various localities across Poonch, Surankote, and Rajouri. These teams have been organized into eight pools of four, each vying for a chance to claim victory in a knockout format. This structure is specifically designed to ensure a thrilling and competitive atmosphere, highlighting the talent and skills of the players at every stage of the tournament.

The finale of the KGPL will be held on December 16, coinciding with Vijay Diwas, a date of significant importance in Indian history as it marks the country’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. By scheduling the climax of the league on this notable day, the Army has successfully intertwined the elements of national pride, heroism, and unity with the sporting event, which is expected to resonate deeply with participants and audiences alike.

In an exciting twist, the tournament is set to elevate its profile with the participation of several Indian Premier League (IPL) players, which adds a layer of prestige and allure. This involvement of professional cricketers is anticipated to inspire local talent and provide aspiring cricketers with the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the game.

As the league unfolds, it promises to offer not just a platform for sporting excellence but also a celebration of community spirit, resilience, and the undying love for cricket in this vibrant region of Jammu and Kashmir.
