During her visit to Goa, President Droupadi Murmu witnessed a significant operational demonstration by the Indian Navy, highlighting the nation’s maritime prowess. The event took place on November 7, 2024, at INS Hansa, the Naval Air Station, where she was warmly received by top naval officials, including Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command. A ceremonial ‘Guard of Honour’ comprising 150 personnel was presented to the President to mark the occasion.
One of the highlights of her visit was her embarkation on the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, which was stationed in the sea off the coast. Accompanied by 15 frontline warships and submarines, President Murmu’s attendance on naval vessels at sea marked a significant milestone in her engagements. She was provided with an extensive briefing on the Indian Navy’s operational strategy, its various roles, and mission framework during her time aboard.
The demonstration featured a series of impressive naval operations, including take-offs and landings by deck-based fighter jets. Observing missile launch drills from a warship and submarine maneuvers, the President was able to witness the Navy’s readiness and capabilities up close. The exercise culminated with a coordinated flypast involving over 30 aircraft, followed by a traditional steam-past that showcased the formidable strength of the Indian Navy’s fleet.
After the operational showcase, President Murmu enjoyed lunch with the crew of INS Vikrant. During this gathering, she delivered an address that was broadcast to all naval units at sea. In her speech, she expressed appreciation for the Navy’s dedication and service, reinforcing the importance of their roles in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
