A 25-year-old woman has experienced a miraculous recovery following a severe accident during a boat ride on the Mahanadi River in Cuttack, Odisha. On Friday, Nandini Das was enjoying an outing with her friends when disaster struck—a head-on collision between two speedboats left her with critical head injuries.
The incident unfolded just a kilometer away from the Bali Yatra ground, where the propeller of one of the boats struck Nandini, resulting in significant trauma. In a fortunate turn of events, a diving team from the Indian Navy, who were in the vicinity conducting a reconnaissance mission, quickly came to her aid.
With the ambulance delayed, the Navy personnel demonstrated remarkable urgency and resourcefulness. They carried Nandini, who was bleeding profusely, for nearly one kilometer to the nearest auto-rickshaw, which then transported her to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for emergency treatment.
Hospital authorities have commended the Navy’s swift and decisive actions, emphasizing that their intervention significantly reduced the chances of a critical outcome. Nandini has since been admitted to the emergency ward, where her condition is now stabilizing, and she is reportedly out of danger.
Local police were notified and subsequently informed Nandini’s family, who rushed to the hospital upon learning of the incident. Navy sources revealed that the personnel’s quick thinking and physical efforts were crucial in the dramatic rescue, demonstrating the importance of their presence and training in emergency situations.
As Nandini continues to receive medical care, the community remains grateful for the timely intervention that ultimately saved her life.
