US Marine Corps Enters Contract with Aimpoint for Advanced Fire Control Systems
The US Marine Corps has secured a contract with Aimpoint to supply its innovative FCS 14 Fire Control Systems for the M3A1 Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapons System. While details regarding the contract amount, quantity, and delivery timeline remain undisclosed, this development marks a significant enhancement in the Marines’ operational capabilities.
The FCS 14 is a versatile multi-weapon sight that can be utilized with both crew-served support weapons and vehicle-mounted machine guns. Key features of the system include an integrated laser rangefinder and a ballistic computer, which work together to minimize targeting errors associated with range estimation and terrain angle. Aimpoint emphasizes that the FCS 14 significantly increases the probability of first-round hits on both stationary and moving targets, day or night.
“The FCS 14 provides an extremely high probability of first round hits,” noted Aimpoint, a Virginia-based optics manufacturer. The system’s ballistically compensated 2 MOA green dot, coupled with an updated user interface, allows for rapid and efficient use in combat situations.
The FCS 14 is designed to be compatible with a variety of night vision devices, including helmet-mounted options like the AN/PVS-14 and AN/PVS-31, as well as a removable Dual Sensor Afocal (DSA) thermal and day camera module. The versatility of this system extends beyond the 84mm Carl-Gustaf weapon—it’s also suitable for an array of armaments, including the AT4, various high-velocity grenade launchers, .50 caliber heavy machine guns, and the M134D Minigun.
Aimpoint Inc. President Thane Smith highlighted the device’s capabilities, stating, “The FCS 14 enhances the ability to detect, identify, and destroy battlefield threats.” He further noted that its compatibility with numerous crew-served weapons provides military commanders with increased flexibility and lethality while reducing the training burdens associated with older sighting systems.
Aimpoint remains committed to delivering high-quality, reliable weapon optics that enhance the effectiveness and safety of military personnel, making this contract a significant step forward in the modernization of the Marine Corps’ equipment.
