PM Modi Ready to Offer Full Support to Resolve Ukraine Conflict

Modi Reiterates India’s Support for Peace in Ukraine During Meeting with Putin in Kazan

Kazan, Russia – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, October 22, to reaffirm India’s commitment to assist in resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In his opening remarks at the bilateral meeting held at the Governor’s Palace, PM Modi emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution to global conflicts, stating, “We are in regular contact regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. As I have said before, we believe that problems should be resolved peacefully."

Expressing India’s strong desire for peace and stability, Modi reiterated, “We fully support the earliest possible establishment of peace and stability. In all our efforts, we give priority to humanity, and we are ready to provide any possible assistance in the future.”

The meeting took place shortly after PM Modi arrived in Kazan to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit at the invitation of President Putin. During the discussions, Modi thanked Putin for his hospitality, highlighting the historical ties between India and Kazan. He remarked, “This is my second visit to Russia in the last three months, and it demonstrates the close coordination and strong friendship between our countries.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged Russia’s leadership within the BRICS association and expressed optimism about the ongoing collaboration, stating, “Over the last 15 years of its existence, our BRICS association has created a special identity for itself, and today many countries around the world want to join our association."

Modi’s visit aims to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. The BRICS summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” provides a vital platform for discussions on various global issues, including economic cooperation and climate change.

In his departure statement, Modi celebrated the inclusion of new members in BRICS and reaffirmed India’s dedication to collaborative efforts. “The expansion of BRICS with the addition of new members last year has added to its inclusivity and agenda for the global good," he stated.

During the summit, leaders are expected to engage in discussions on key global and regional priorities, focusing on politics and security, economics and finance, as well as cultural and humanitarian contacts. The outcomes of these discussions will be documented in the forthcoming Kazan Summit Declaration.
