Army Hospital R&R Celebrates World Mental Health Day 2024 with Focus on Workplace Mental Health

By promoting awareness and offering resources for coping with stress, Army Hospital R&R and Base Hospital Delhi Cantt continue to lead the charge in safeguarding the mental well-being of military personnel, nursing officers, and cadets, ensuring a healthier, more productive workforce.

On October 10, 2024, Army Hospital Research and Referral (R&R) in Delhi Cantt commemorated World Mental Health Day with the theme “Mental Health at Work.” The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being in the workplace and highlighted the growing need to address work-related stress and promote a healthy work-life balance.

Highlights of the Event

The celebration included a diverse range of activities, starting with a survey-based study presentation that focused on work-related stress among Nursing Officers and Cadets. The study provided valuable insights into the mental health challenges faced by those in high-stress professions within the armed forces and offered recommendations on mitigating these stressors.

A poster competition was organized, encouraging creative expression and awareness on the topic of mental health. Additionally, a powerful psychodrama was performed by students from the College of Nursing, which vividly depicted the mental health struggles related to work environments and how individuals can seek help and support.

The event was further enriched by a guest lecture delivered by the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt (BHDC), who discussed the psychological impacts of work stress and strategies for maintaining mental well-being. The lecture emphasized the importance of early intervention and support systems in the workplace.

Commandant’s Address

In his address, Lt. Gen. Shankar Narayan, Commandant of Army Hospital R&R, stressed the significance of achieving a proper work-life balance for a healthy and productive life. He emphasized that mental health is not only a personal concern but also a collective responsibility in creating a supportive and empathetic work environment. He highlighted the need for the armed forces to prioritize mental health in the workplace to ensure the well-being and efficiency of all personnel.

Activities at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt

World Mental Health Day was also commemorated at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt with the same focus on workplace mental health. A drawing competition and psychodrama were held, providing a platform for creative engagement and discussion around mental health issues. The insightful talks during the event underscored the importance of establishing mentally healthy environments and reducing the stigma associated with mental health problems.
