Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), visited the National Defence College (NDC) in Bangladesh and delivered a compelling address to the Class of 2024. His talk, titled “Turbulent Tides and Times – Steering a Steady Course,” focused on the geopolitical dynamics and the fluctuating security environment in the broader Indo-Pacific Region (IPR) from a naval perspective.
During his visit, Admiral Tripathi interacted with Lieutenant General Md Saiful Alam, the Commandant of NDC, along with the faculty, staff, and officers undergoing training at the college. His address highlighted the critical geopolitical trends in the region, emphasizing the “so what” of these developments, including the opportunities for cooperation and collaboration among like-minded nations in the Indo-Pacific. He aligned his discussion with the Government of India’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and IPOI (Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative), advocating for a free, open, peaceful, and inclusive IPR that ensures shared peace and prosperity for all littoral nations in the Indian Ocean Region.
Admiral Tripathi’s visit also included a significant diplomatic engagement with the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, on July 2, 2024. During their discussion, Prime Minister Hasina recalled and appreciated India’s crucial role in Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971. This interaction underscores the deep historical and strategic ties between India and Bangladesh, emphasizing their ongoing collaboration and mutual interests in regional stability and development.
Admiral Tripathi’s engagements in Bangladesh highlight the strategic outreach and diplomatic efforts by India’s naval leadership to reinforce alliances and foster dialogue on critical issues affecting the Indo-Pacific security landscape.
