The aspirations of two young men from Uttar Pradesh—Happy Singh of Bijnor and Taufeeq Raza from Jhansi—were realized spectacularly this Saturday. Both men graduated from the Indian Air Force’s 213th graduation course with exceptional honors. The ceremony took place at the prestigious Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana, where a total of 235 flight cadets, including 22 women, were commissioned as officers in a grand combined graduation parade.
Among these newly commissioned officers, Flying Officer Happy Singh emerged as a standout. He was awarded the President’s Plaque and the Chief of the Air Staff Sword of Honour for his top performance in the pilots’ course, marking him first in the overall order of merit. Singh, the son of a farmer, has consistently demonstrated exemplary dedication and skill, traits that have clearly paid off in his training at the Academy.
Also recognized at the ceremony was Flying Officer Taufeeq Raza, who received the President’s Plaque for leading the overall order of merit among the ground duty officers. Raza, a second-generation defence officer and an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), also bagged the Chief of Air Staff Trophy for his outstanding merit in the administration branch of the 213th course. His background as a formidable sportsman further highlights his versatile capabilities.
The event was marked by the presence of the proud family members of both officers, adding a personal touch to the celebrations. This graduation ceremony was notably significant as it also saw the commissioning of 25 cadets from ground duty branches who joined the NDA four years ago, a first in the history of the Academy’s Combined Graduation Parade (CGP). Among these were officers commissioned into the administration, logistics, and technical branches of the IAF.

In addition, the ceremony included cadets from the Navy, Coast Guard, and a friendly foreign country, all of whom were awarded ‘Wings’ upon successfully completing their flying training. Happy Singh, a fresh and inspiring addition to the Indian Air Force, exemplifies the virtues of determination and hard work. His journey from the fields of Bijnor to receiving the highest honors at the Air Force Academy is a testament to the power of dreams and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Standing proudly in his IAF uniform, Happy Singh is a true embodiment of an achiever who has reached for the skies and beyond.
