In a display of seamless coordination and rapid response, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) executed a successful sea-air rescue operation to evacuate a patient in distress from a Sri Lankan fishing vessel (SLFV) named ‘Kalpeni.’
The operation, conducted approximately 100 nautical miles from Chennai, exemplifies the Coast Guard’s commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian assistance.
The rescue mission was initiated after receiving distress communication from the Sri Lankan fishing vessel, reporting a crew member experiencing symptoms suggestive of a heart attack.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Indian Coast Guard swiftly mobilized resources to provide assistance to the stricken vessel.
Utilizing a helicopter from the ICG Air Station in Chennai, an Advanced Light Helicopter Mk-III was deployed to the location of the distressed fishing vessel.
Despite the challenging maritime conditions, the ICG helicopter crew executed a flawless aerial evacuation, safely hoisting the patient from the SLFV ‘Kalpeni’ and providing immediate medical assistance on board the aircraft.
Following the successful evacuation, the patient was promptly transferred to officials from the Sri Lankan High Commission stationed in Chennai.
