DRDO Successfully Conducts Field Evaluation of Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile

Equipped with day/night and top-attack capabilities, the MPATGM system boasts a dual-mode seeker functionality, enhancing its effectiveness in tank warfare scenarios.

In a significant stride towards bolstering India’s defense capabilities, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a major milestone with the successful field evaluation of the Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System.

Developed indigenously, the MPATGM system has undergone rigorous testing and evaluation to prove its technological superiority and combat effectiveness.

The MPATGM system comprises the MPATGM itself, along with the Launcher, Target Acquisition System, and Fire Control Unit, all designed and developed domestically by DRDO.

Over several flight configurations and trials, the system has demonstrated its prowess and efficacy in various operational scenarios, meeting the stringent requirements outlined in the General Staff Qualitative Requirements (Infantry, Indian Army).

The latest triumph in the development journey of the MPATGM came with the successful Warhead Flight Trials conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range, Rajasthan, on April 13, 2024.

The trials validated the exceptional performance of both the missile and the warhead, reaffirming their capability to meet the demands of modern warfare.

Crucially, the Penetration trials of the Tandem Warhead System of MPATGM have been completed successfully, establishing its capability to defeat modern armor-protected Main Battle Tanks effectively.

Equipped with day/night and top-attack capabilities, the MPATGM system boasts a dual-mode seeker functionality, enhancing its effectiveness in tank warfare scenarios.

With the conclusion of technology development and successful demonstration, the MPATGM system is now poised for Final User Evaluation Trials, paving the way for its induction into the Indian Army.

This development marks a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in advanced technology-based defense systems, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Commending the DRDO and the Indian Army for their collaborative efforts and successful trials of the MPATGM system, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a crucial milestone in India’s defense capabilities.

His praise underscores the importance of indigenous innovation and self-reliance in strengthening the country’s defense infrastructure.

Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman DRDO, also extended his congratulations to the teams involved in the trials.
