In a concerted effort to enhance coastal security and fortify defense mechanisms, a comprehensive two-day Coastal Security Exercise titled ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ was successfully conducted in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from April 1st to April 2nd, 2024.
The exercise, which involved the participation of all maritime security agencies, marked a significant step towards strengthening surveillance capabilities and fostering coordination among coastal security stakeholders.
Assets belonging to the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Police, Fisheries, Customs, and other security agencies were mobilized and deployed in various strategic locations across Lakshadweep as part of ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’.
The exercise aimed to evaluate and enhance the preparedness and response mechanisms of the participating agencies in the face of potential maritime security threats.
The exercise scenario simulated various security challenges, including infiltration attempts, smuggling activities, and search and rescue operations, to test the effectiveness of the coastal security apparatus.
Through realistic and scenario-based training exercises, ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ provided an invaluable opportunity for the participating agencies to refine their operational procedures and strengthen their interoperability.
One of the key objectives of the exercise was to assess and enhance the coordination and cooperation between different maritime security stakeholders.
By facilitating joint operations and information sharing among the participating agencies, ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ aimed to foster a seamless and integrated approach to coastal security management.
The successful conduct of ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ underscored the commitment of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and other security agencies towards safeguarding India’s maritime interests and protecting its coastal borders.

The strategic location of Lakshadweep, with its vast coastline and proximity to important maritime routes, makes it imperative to ensure robust coastal security measures. ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ provided a platform for the participating agencies to identify areas of improvement and address gaps in their operational capabilities, thereby enhancing the overall security posture of the region.
As India continues to strengthen its maritime security framework in line with its strategic imperatives, exercises like ‘Sagar Kavach 01/24’ play a crucial role in building synergy and resilience among maritime security stakeholders.
