In a historic moment for the Indian Air Force (IAF), the Hon’ble President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, will bestow the President’s Standard and Colours upon four distinguished IAF units at Air Force Station Hindan on March 8, 2024.
This unprecedented occasion marks the first time in the history of the Indian Air Force that four units will be honoured simultaneously with the prestigious President’s Standard and Colours.
A curtain-raiser press conference held in New Delhi today provided insights into the upcoming ceremony. Air Marshal PM Sinha, AOC-in-C Western Air Command, along with the commanders of the four recipient units, addressed the media, underscoring the significance of the event.
The President’s Standard and Colours, considered the highest military honour for any Armed Forces unit, are bestowed upon units that have demonstrated exceptional merit and dedication in their service over the past 25 years.
These awards serve as a testament to the operational excellence, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions of the recognized units, both in times of peace and war.
The selected units to be honored during the ceremony include 45 Squadron and 221 Squadron, which will receive the President’s Standard, and 11 Base Repair Depot and 509 Signal Unit, which will be presented with the President’s Colours.
Group Captain M Surendran, Commanding Officer of 45 Squadron, and Group Captain Shubhankan, Commanding Officer of 221 Squadron, will receive the President’s Standard on behalf of their units. Air Commodore Ashutosh Vaidya, Air Officer Commanding of 11 Base Repair Depot, and Group Captain Vivek Sharma, Commanding Officer of 509 Signal Unit, will receive the President’s Colours.
