In a groundbreaking achievement for Indian athletics, Neeraj Chopra bagged the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. By doing so, he made history as the first Indian to win gold at this esteemed event.
On August 28, Neeraj displayed unparalleled skill against global contenders. His remarkable throw of 88.17 meters during his second try highlighted his dominance in the event. This triumphant performance not only earned him gold but also positioned him as a pioneer for Indian sports internationally.
Coming in closely behind Neeraj was Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, clinching the silver with a laudable throw of 87.82 meters. Nadeem, previously a star at the Commonwealth Games, was followed by Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, who secured bronze with an 86.67-meter throw.
In response to Neeraj’s victory, his father, Satish Kumar, shared with ANI, “This is a moment of immense pride for our nation. We’ll celebrate when Neeraj returns.”
India’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, was among many sending congratulatory messages. Taking to social media, Thakur acknowledged this milestone in India’s sports narrative. The Indian Army echoed these sentiments, sharing their congratulations widely.
This gold adds to Neeraj’s impressive portfolio, further elevating India’s standing at the World Athletics Championships. Notably, Neeraj had previously clinched a silver medal at the Championships.
