- Delhi has been ranked the most polluted capital in the world, while Gurugram is the most polluted city, according to a Greenpeace report.
- Virat Kohli broke former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting’s record to become the fastest to score 9,000 international runs as a captain. The Indian skipper achieved the milestone when he reached 22 runs against Australia during the second One-day International (ODI) in Nagpur. Virat Kohli reached the 9,000-run mark as a skipper in 159 innings while Ponting took 203 innings to reach the same figure.

- Google has launched a new application called ‘Bolo’ that aims to help children in primary school to read in Hindi and English. The application features an animated character called ‘Diya’, who encourages children to read stories aloud.

- The Supreme Court on Friday referred Ayodhya’s Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case to mediation for amicable settlement. Former apex court judge Justice (retd) F M Kallifulla will head a panel of mediators in the case. Other members of the panel of mediators include spiritual guru Shri Shri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.
- Governor of Mizoram Kummanam Rajasekharan has resigned from his post.
- President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Nari Shakti awards, 2018, the highest civilian honour for women in India, in New Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
- Ausaf Sayeed, presently High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Seychelles, has been appointed as the next ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia.

- The Supreme Court of India on March 8, 2019 decided to refer the Ayodhya-Babri Masjid title dispute case for mediation. The apex court has formed a panel of mediators to resolve the issue, which will be headed by Supreme Court judge, Justice F M Kalifullah. The other members of the panel include spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Sankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.

- Ethiopian airlines plane bound for Nairobi crashed today, killing all 157 people on board.
- The most awaited big fat Indian wedding took off on March 9, 2019 with Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta tying the knot at a hotel in Mumbai. Akash Ambani is the eldest son of Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani and Shloka Mehta is the daughter of high profile diamond merchant Russell Mehta. The couple got engaged in July 2018.
