The Nuclear Imbalance by North Korea

Many developing nations, including India are heading to strengthen their military, in order to equalize the power share in their territory and nuclear technology seems to the latest mean to rank the power of any nation. But North Korea is emerging as the threat to the peace of the planet. The constant nuclear tests that it is conducting these days, is a matter of concern. It has done many tests in defense arena, ranging from ballistic missiles to nuclear tests. North Korea went out of the non-proliferation treaty in 2003 and is known for the tough civil rules and strict regulations.

Talking about the current scenario, North Korea has recently held a nuclear test and it is termed as the biggest nuclear test in its history. The test led to the generation of artificial earthquake around the site of nuclear test. Later North Korea revealed the success of nuclear test, claiming that it is an achievement for the nation and a step toward nuclear mounted missiles. As per the sources of South Korea, the test was done using about 10 tons of nuclear material (Hiroshima bombing had 15 kilotons of nuclear material). Further, the sources informed that the level of earthquake has been increasing with the each consecutive test. This recent earthquake was of 5.3 magnitude.

Why the test was conducted?

The small nation had got many sanctions from the U.S. and is aiming to bolster its Armour against it. Earlier, the H-bomb test by North Korea led to its criticism and U.S imposed several sections over it. North Korea sees U.S as the main target after South Korea was seen inclined toward U.S. after military exercise between both the nations along with growing close links.

All super powers and other nations, with strong militaries are criticizing the test as it violates the denuclearization and hints at more violent acts in the field of international conflicts and this test will ignite more sanctions over North Korea limiting its resources and relations with other nations. Earlier, the sections were imposed to cut the supply of aviation fuel, rocket fuel and some arms to North Korea.

North Korea has been in the field of nuclear test from a decade. Some of the crucial tests in the same sequence are mentioned below.

  • In 2006, it held its first nuclear test
  • In 2009 and 2013, it claimed having tested its 2nd and 3rd nuclear tests.
  • In January, 2016, it announced of having tested hydrogen bomb, triggering a worldwide uproar.

The pace of tests and trails of arms by North Korea seems to be the move to show its power. China is the closest friend of North Korea and all are waiting for its response over this nuclear test. The previous allegations of triple missile test also became a hot topic of discussions. Last month, North Korea tested submarine based ballistic missile and a ballistic missile to bring up its military gears. Moreover, further such tests are expected from the same side. North Korea is making an imbalance in the territory and sparking disputes in the nuclear era, where nuclear power is needed to be handled judiciously and smartly in the favour of mankind.
