In a bid to promote PM Modi’s yoga campaign, the Border Security Force (BSF) has decided to replace its routine 45-minute daily physical training (PT) drills with yoga at all its units.
The decision was taken by BSF Director General KK Sharma after 1,900 personnel of BSF recently completed yoga training under the charge of Yoga guru Ramdev.
So, instead of 45 minutes PT capsule, jawans will now undergo yoga asanas. It’s a healthy ancient art which has immense mental and physical benefits. It’s a scientific method which enhances immunity, brings in flexibility and prepares the practitioner for tougher tasks. It’s the best alternative for PT and will make jawans much stronger.
A committee of senior officers of the force has been constituted that will suggest if, apart from yoga, any other physical exercises are required to be included in the daily regime of the 2.5 lakh personnel-strong force.
The paramilitary force has decided to “intensify” yoga training of its troops and the aim is to have at least one trainer in this discipline in each platoon-level formation comprising about 35 personnel.
BSF DG Sharma had offered a cheque for Rs 11 lakh to Patanjali Yogpeeth as part of yoga training expenses of 2,000 jawans, but Ramdev refused to accept it.
He further added 10 lakh to it and donated Rs 21 lakh for the BSF Welfare Fund.
BSF guards India’s two important borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh since 1965 apart from conducting anti-Naxal operations in the Left Wing Extremism hit states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
