India launched its first integrated defence communication network ensuring network centricity across the three services, Integrated Defence Staff and Strategic Forces Command.
This network is being looked as a step towards “joint man ship” that the government is pushing for in the armed forces.
Here’s all you need to know about the Defence Communication Network:
- The Defence Communication Network (DCN) is a strategic, highly secure and scalable system.
- It has a pan-India reach – from Ladakh to the North East to island territories and is a testimony to the fact that Indian Army and the Corps of Signals are well placed to meet any challenges and responsibilities which come their way.
- While all the three forces have their own command, communication and intelligence networks, this is the first time when there will be a dedicated network for greater synergy.
- It is built by HCL Infosystems under a ₹600 crore project.
- The network provides converged voice, data and video services to the three services based on the secured system with adequate redundancy.
- DCN offers high-quality voice, video and data services covering 111 entities spread across the country.
- It is capable of working on terrestrial as well as satellite mode of communication and has also been fixed onboard different military vehicles.
- The hi-tech, fully secure DCN is the largest single satellite network in the Indian Defence Forces, spread across the country.
