One thing that remains charming at par with battle tanks and top guns in the Army are its cars. Ranging from Ambassador to Gypsy to Sumo, Indian Army got’em all. They have been used everywhere between ferrying officials around to mount anti-tank guns and defend the nation.
Here are 6 such cars of the Indian army as compiled here that will blow your mind:
- Maruti Gypsy: The Gypsy has been in the army for years. Since the 90s, the Gypsy has its own charm and still continues the same while army orders more and more units over time. Used anywhere near the border or in peace, the Gypsy will continue to serve in the army for long. It is generally used by lower rank officers of the armed forces.
- HM Ambassador: Ambassador is assigned to Commanding officers and officers of the rank of Brigadier and above. This king of roads is a darker cousin of politician’s white version. The black Ambassador looks as dashing as classy today as it did since the last years.

To get this into perspective, it is the same car used by CQMH Abdul Hamid, PVC to take down all those tanks during the Battle of Asal Uttar. There are still a few pieces of these left in the Army. It has proved itself in the highest altitudes and snow clad passes in the world in combat.
- Tata Sumo: This bold vehicle is a mobile ambulance in the army. It comes with a strong Indian Army lineage having been served in various wars and conflicts. Sumo never disappoints the Army Medical Corps and the Armoured Sumo can carry up to six troops for counter-insurgency operations especially in hilly off-road terrain
- Mahindra Jeep: Capable of tackling any terrains, the Jeep has been defending the borders for ages now and has been fatigue less while doing so. The Jeep has served in various missions including overseas missions in the United Nations.
- Jonga: Abbreviated for Jabalpur Ordnance and Guncarriage Assembly, the JONGA car was developed by Nissan. The car is sturdy and reliable being really hot in the customisation circuit because of its urban tactical vehicle design. Suitable for off-road tasks, the army has extensively used this car since its induction in the army.
