With the NDA exam being concluded recently, the next step for NDA aspirants is to start preparing for the SSB. No matter how your performance was in the exam, you need to start preparing for the interview from right now. There is no Shubh Muhurat for this. The earlier you start, the better you get at OLQs.
The first and foremost thing to make up your mind is the fact to remember that you are not competing with other candidates, which is a major misconception to many. All of you will be assessed against a common standard of suitability called the OLQs and it is possible for everyone in a group to be recommended or to not be recommended.
Here is what you can do to start your preparations and crack the NDA SSB interview:
- First things first, keep in mind the complete procedure of SSB; about what you are expected to do there.
- Identify your strengths: Some of the core traits to consider are: Leadership skills, teamwork, communication skills, initiative and creativity, organisational ability and a positive attitude. Introspect yourself and the areas you need to develop and work accordingly.
- T-BUS: Always Think Before You Speak. Do not rush of hurry your decisions. Pause for a while before speaking, as this avoids reacting instinctively and saying the wrong things. Let you voice show your enthusiasm and keenness.
- An interview is about interacting with people. Hence, you can start learning by talking to your family members or friends in a formal manner. Practice in Front of a Mirror to get confidence for facing an interview. This is an old age technique.
- Give the interviewer/assessor your full attention, wait for them to finish speaking before you answer or ask questions. Be enthusiastic. Speak with clarity and confidence.
- Relax! A smile is the most positive signal you can give, as it reaffirms your enthusiasm and good nature.
- Jot down all the points that you will talk in an interview. For creating a chain of thought, it is always good to note down all the topics on which you may talk to Interviewers in the whole Interview like about yourself, what others think about you, etc.
- Body language should be positive and relaxed. Not sloppy and tired. You must be active and energetic for the interview.
- Eye contact is the first thing that is going to happen with interviewers. Hence, eye contact should be normal and you should always shake hands with them.
- When you are going for the interview, dress formally. Do not wear informal clothes as it looks unprofessional. Avoid using perfumes or deodorant with strong smell as it distracts the attention of assessors. Attire must match your personality. If you are dark then wear light colored clothes, if you are fair then you can wear dark colored clothes.
- Your mind should be open without any negativity. It is easy to overcome negative thoughts so have an open mind.
- Never assume that you can crack SSB just preparing overnight. It is a long process and you have to give due time. Being consistent and determined is the key to success.
