Hello aspirants. We hear so many things from so many sources, about SSB. Some tell us that clothes are important while some others tell us that English is. We are torn between the things which are important and which are not. We often take advices from our friends who have been to SSB, or from somebody who we think can guide us. We hear so many versions of important thing that we get confused, and device a new version for ourselves! Here through this piece of writing I hope I can remove some doubts as to what things are not important in SSB.
Things which do not help in SSB Interview
- Dress: Appearance matters, sometime a lot. But a job in defense is not a media job, where appearance would count so much. You would say that how can I neglect the importance of dress, when I myself write about being in proper and suitable dress. Well dressing is important, but the type of dress is more important. What I mean by saying this is that you need to be dressed according to the occasion, but do not panic if you are not. If you are directly coming from GTO, for the interview, you better focus on calming yourself. So for them dress is like a rule, you don’t have to show your best fashion sense, but just be dressed in the thing they ask you to, in modest form.
- English: The language you are supposed to communicate your ideas in is English. It does not mean that you have to be totally expert in English. We always tell you to focus on English. That is because we do not want the language to be a hindrance in your thoughts, which you want to communicate. I have seen a few friends of mine, who were very bad in spoken English, but still managed to become officers, and they spoke whenever they got stuck in Hindi. So you can communicate your thoughts in Hindi, but revert back to English as soon as possible.
- Having a defense connect: A lot of people tell us that officer’s kids have it easy in SSB. In fact I have done an article on how they do not have it easy, instead it is more difficult for them! You need not have a defense connect to be successful in SSB. They take you for who and what you are not what your back ground is.
- A star studded school or college background: Many candidates feel that they do not have enough achievements in sports or extra-curricular and so they might not be able to get through SSB. It is not a competition, it is test for the right fit, even if you are a winner of national level sport or cultural thing, but if you don’t have what they are looking for they won’t take you.
I would like to conclude by saying that the most important thing in SSB is being who and what you are and having the qualities which they are looking for, anything else is not important.
