Controlling the SSB interview, The Way You Want

Personal Interview, the shortest but the most important test in SSB. For other tests you need to spend hours, both in preparation and in giving them. There are varieties of tests for which you need to prepare for other battery of tests, but for interview there is only one test. Interviews are simple yet tricky. If you can take the flow of the interview in your control, then you can very well turn the tides in your favor. Let us see how you can turn the flow of the interview in your direction:

Controlling the SSB interview, The Way You Want

  1. Write the truth and nothing but the truth: PIQ form plays a vital role in your interview and the direction in which it’ll go. In the PIQ you should write the truth only, because there will be a lot of questions which will be asked from your PIQ form, if you are writing things which are not true or which you are not so sure about then you’ll not be able to answer the questions based on them. And if you are not able to answer the questions, and get stuck, you’ll lose the flow.
  2. For every short question, give a comprehensive answer: That is a major tactic to control the time in the interview. If they ask you a short question like “Tell me something about yourself”, then you should narrate your PIQ form from first column to the last, tell about your family, the place you come from, your academic background, sports, extra-curricular, achievements etc. Similarly if they ask you ‘what place you are coming from’, then you should describe things about the place you come from.

  3. List your achievements: For sure you’ll be asked about your achievements in your life, or your happiest moment, and sometimes your most depressing moment. You must be in position to describe those things, what led to those moments etc. Make a list of your achievements in chronological order and mug it up.
  4. Read around: Be prepared with at least two current affairs topic thoroughly. By thoroughly I mean totally, you must know in and out of those topics. So that if any question is asked related to current affairs and you are not aware of it, then you can say ‘sorry sir I have not read about it much but I know a lot about (the topic you have prepared for)’. Hence you can again stretch the time in your direction. The more you know about the topic the more you can speak.
  5. Rate of speech: The slower you speak, more time you get to think and present. It is always advisable to speak in a slow rate, so that you can spend more time on a single topic. Also if you speak fast you tend to get nervous and there are chances that the person sitting in front of you is not able to understand. Fumbling is very common for those who speak fast. Complete every word, speak properly and calmly, it’ll show confidence.
