Navy Women To Be Up For Combat Roles On Warships

0

Women officers may soon be aboard the Indian Navy’s warships as the Navy is working out a policy in this regard. According to Defence sources, the Navy is working on the modalities to allow women officials on board its warships.

Earlier, in 2008, the government decided to grant permanent commission to short service commission women officers in those arms of the three services that “do not entail direct combat or the possibility of physical contact with the enemy”.

Following this, the Indian Navy has allowed seven of its short service commission women officers a permanent commission in the force which enabled them to serve till they retired. Navy is the last of the three armed forces in the country to allow permanent commission to women.

Now, the Navy is considering its women officers for combat roles on its warships.

This is the second major step towards enabling women officers to serve in combat roles after the IAF decided last year to allow its women officers to serve as fighter pilots on “experimental basis” for five years. This made IAF the first of the three forces to allow women in combat role, now followed by the Navy.

Defence sources said women officers in the Navy will have to meet at least four conditions for permanent commission for the combat roles, including medical fitness and a good annual confidential report. Women officers will also have to opt for permanent commission at the start of their service.

According to Commodore BK Munjal, the living conditions in ships are entirely different. They are now modifying ships and designing them as per the conditions required for women officers. The Navy has made some structural design changes to its newly built warships to provide accommodation for women officials and modification is underway to the already inducted ships.

The government said starting 2017, women will be eligible to join as pilots of reconnaissance planes in the Navy, one of the eight branches to be opened up to female officers.

Women were first inducted in the Military in 1927 in the Nursing Service and in the Medical officers’ cadre in 1943. They were enabled to join the armed forces in 1992 on short service commissions.

Though the clear figures are not known yet, the Indian Air Force currently has the highest number of women officers at 1,350, followed by the Army with 1,300 and Navy with about 500.

Besides the Navy, the Army is working on a proposal to give more responsibility to its women officials, but not in the direct combat role. The Army may soon consider women for combat roles too in the near future.

This could set a global trend for the induction of women in combat roles in the male-dominated militaries of the world.

More power to you, lady warriors!

10 Tips For Non-Math Students To Crack NDA Exam

1
NDA For non maths student

Over 6 lac applicants apply for NDA exam every six months. Admission rate in NDA is as low as there are chances to book a train ticket on IRCTC website. Students from every field apply for the exam – from MPC to BPC to Arts. But the candidates who have an upper hand on maths section among all have better chances for selection.

It’s not that the non-maths students do not get to join the academy. They do, but they are restricted for joining only the Army wing, eligibility of which is only 12th pass. The eligibility for Air Force and Navy wing however, is Maths and Physics at the 10+2 level among others.

So it is not mandatory but obvious that without MPC subjects a candidate is not eligible for Navy/Air Force wing.

So, Arts/Commerce students can only join the Army wing and not AF/Navy, you ask? Sadly, yes. But this should not be a problem for writing the exam. For this purpose, you just need to study Maths from the exam point of view and maybe, the correction would be lenient in case of non-maths students (ambiguous).

To crack  SSB interview,  recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

Anyhow, having an upper hand on maths will only increase your chances to join the academy. So, why take risk and why not go that extra mile? Here are few tips which may help non-maths students crack the NDA exam:

  1. Study Maths: You may have chosen Arts/Commerce because you hate maths. But you have to study maths if you want to join the academy. Period.
  2. Get Tuitions: Invest in a good tutor or a coaching academy. There are many institutes which offer specialised coaching in maths for NDA aspirants. Or you can just hire a personal tutor who will teach you 11th and 12th maths in a less period of time.
  3. Take Help from Maths Friends: This is the most underrated part. Why don’t you just go and ask your Maths friends to help you out. They can be a good tutor to you and you do not need to have any formalities with them either.
  4. Self-Studies Is Not That Bad: Have you tried opening the book and tried learning it by yourself? Why don’t you just do it? The more you do it by yourself, the more determined you will become. Try with small chapters like Matrices & Determinants and then increase your level. By the time you feel that you can’t do it by yourself, go for help.
  5. Invest in a Self-Study Guide: There are lot many self-study materials and guides available for maths in the market. Research on it and pick anyone of them. Follow it thoroughly and you will all be set.
  6. Have a Dedicated Time Slot: You are studying this subject out of interest apart from your mainstream studies. So, you need to set aside a specific time slot for practising maths. 2 hours daily is a must.
  7. Set a Time Goal: If you ought to write your exam the next time, you have six month’s time to prepare for maths. Divide your syllabus and set a target and time limit for each chapter to be studied.
  8. Don’t Underestimate the Power of Internet: So, while you have internet to access this article on how to clear maths, you can use the same internet to clear your doubts. YouTube is a wonderful source for learning new things, yet it is much underestimated.
  9. Previous Year’s Papers to the Rescue: You target here is to study maths to clear the NDA exam. So why not just refer what type of questions are being asked and try solving those instead of solving each question from NCERT?
  10. Believe in Yourself: Unless you think you can do it, you can’t do it. Believe in yourself and be confident of what decisions you have made. You may not succeed at first, but you may the second time.

India’s “Most Ambitious And Secret” Nuke Missile K-4 Test Fired

0
Nuke Missile K-4

India’s “Most Ambitious” missile, codenamed K-4 was recently test-fired from the nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant somewhere in Bay of Bengal. Various news agencies have accessed the first images of this secretive weapon system that has almost never been seen before in flight.

The missile was fired from around 20 metres under water from the submarine and it hit the target after covering 700 kms distance. In its full capability, the K-4 can strike targets up to a range of 3500 kms.

To crack  SSB interview,  recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

About the K-4 missile:

  1. Although the missile is yet to get its actual name, it was being developed under a secret project, code named K-4, which is part of the K-family of missiles, a series of Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs).
  2. K-4 is capable of carrying nuclear warheads. It is named after the Missile Man of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  3. The K-4 SLBM has a range of 3,500 km.
  4. The missile is 10-12 metres long and 1.3 metres wide with a solid-fuelled engine.
  5. It weighs 17-20 tonnes and can carry a nuclear payload of up to 2,000 kg.
  6. The missile was developed exclusively for INS Arihant, as the Agni-III missile could not be fitted in the submarine.
  7. K-4 is indeed a derivative of the Agni ballistic nuclear missiles already in service. This will make K-4 the most potent part of India’s nuclear deterrent.
  8. INS Arihant can carry 12 smaller K-15 missiles or four larger K-4 missiles.
  9. The DRDO, which developed this missile also have plans to develop three more K-series missiles. This includes the K-5 missile which will have a strike range of more than 5,000 km capable of hitting targets deep inside China.
  10. While the K-4 missile has more developmental trials before being inducted in the armed forces, its shorter version 750-km range K-15 (renamed as B-05) is ready for induction.

The missile test is being seen as a huge step forward for country’s nuclear weapons programme and strategic deterrent. Before India’s K-4 missile launch, only United States, Russia, China and France could successfully launch an undersea nuke-powered ballistic missile.

NDA Ranked 8th Toughest College In The World To Get Into

2
NDA 8th toughest college

NDA is a Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces. This means that cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to pre-commissioning training in their respective service academies. Located at Khadakwasla near Pune, it is the first tri-service academy in the world.

NDA has been a premier military training institute since its inception. Given the facts that NDA alumni include 3 PVC recipients and many chiefs of staffs is the reason enough why NDA cadets are respected in a sense that is undefinable. All the current chiefs of staffs are alumni of NDA.

Nearly 3,00,000 students appear for the entrance exam for NDA out of which only 365 are called in final merit list.

But wait… NDA is not only the toughest military training academy to get into in India but it is the 8th hardest college in the world to get an admission into according to various news reports. The fact that it has very low acceptance rate is the reason enough why NDA cadets are so highly trained and skilled.

NDA imparts quality training to its cadets, better than all other military training academies from across the globe. It also trains cadets from friendly foreign nations who turn out to be the chiefs of staffs of their respective forces. NDA has its own standards of imparting education – one of the best in the world.

The ranking is in line with the top colleges like Harvard University, MIT, Stanford, and so on.

One more college from India, IIT Delhi made it to the list. IIT Delhi is the 5th hardest college to get an admission into. Its campus extends to an area of 320 acres, and has an acceptance rate of 2.5% through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

  4. Stanford University, Palo Alto
  5. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D)
  6. Yale University
  7. Princeton University, New Jersey
  8. National Defence Academy, Pune (NDA)
  9. The Julliard School (Julliard), NYC
  10. Peking University, China

Since its inception 64 years ago, NDA has steadily grown both in stature and in eminence. Training at the NDA will continue to provide academic and technological training of the highest quality in order to equip cadets with appropriate qualifications as a foundation for their service careers. Future wars will be driven by Technology. To ensure that the Cadet passing out from NDA has the mind of a visionary and the quest of a researcher, the training will continue to focus on the knowledge domain apart from physical grilling.

Most Common Mistakes Made By Candidates In SSB

0
ssb interview mistake

Human nature is bonded with hard work. But, what’s required is working hard in a smart way. Similar attempts are to be followed by all SSB aspirants who are aiming to get huge responsibility on their shoulders in the form of stars and stripes. But it takes diverse efforts to reach up to that level. Some candidates step smartly and gets success in it while some continue aimlessly and ends this journey. Well, every candidate knows the best part of his performance. But a few track the way to their mistakes. So, we are here with some of the common mistakes that candidates makes in SSB.

  1. Extra Dominating / Introvert – Excess of everything is dangerous. Same thing applies in SSB too. Being dominant is not a leadership quality. Rather it is a kind of dictatorship. And being an introvert can take you down. Maintain your performance in a justified way, where you can put up your point and another will also find it free to express their views and ideas.
  2. Being Extra Friendly Is Deadly – The Armed Forces are all about discipline. Being over friendly will take you into trouble. Measure your words and feeling. Just answer what is being asked. Over friendly nature will disclose and blow out excess information.
  3. Bluffing Is A Useless – All assessors out there has experience of accessing dozens of candidates every day. They are trained to judge the candidate on first sight strike. Be honest with them. This will make a clear picture of yours in all three testing areas of SSB.
  4. Thinking Beyond Your Calibre Reduces Chances Of Recommendation – Psychological tests are framed in such a way that they bring out a good sketch of the actual personality of the candidate. The Candidate must follow his calibre in all psychological tests. Hype and exaggeration have no place in psychology.
  5. Copying Others Entangles Your Personality Frame – It is usually seen that candidates try to copy dialogues and punches from recommended candidates and delivers them in SSB. Well, this might have worked for those recommended candidates and matched their personality, but don’t try to superimpose their traits over you.
  6. Lack Of Self-Awareness Is Incomplete Analysis – The first step of preparation for SSB is to know yourself. Yours qualities and areas of fault, people’s views about you and your daily activates etc. need to be accessed by yourself.
  7. Reappearing Without Self-Introspection Is Wastage Of Attempts – All repeaters who believe in appearing in SSB, as a way to check their fate are wasting time. An officer is the one, who works beyond fate. It will be better to introspect yourself before heading to SSB next time.
  8. Impractical Ideas And Suggestions Are Unworthy – It is seen many times that candidates are asked about their views and suggestion in SSB. Candidates face this in interview, conference and sometimes at the end of GTO tasks. It is advised to not to put any useless suggestion or question that will become a spot on your personality. It will be better to get out of it in a calm and humble way.

Conclusion – All candidates must work on their shortcomings rather than lustring expertise. Check the part where you are lacking. Bring out a good personality for the armed forces. Make sure your traits are best displayed. But firstly analyse your mistakes in SSB.  All aspirants who are expecting their SSB in upcoming months, should focus on it and make a final shot this time.
