Difference Between Fresher, Repeater and Screened Out Candidate

6

If you are a repeater then you must know how things work in selection board and if you are a fresher, this post will help you to understand it. Now few candidates have confusion whether they come under repeater, fresher or screened out candidates.

How groups are created in SSB interview

As soon as you enter the selection centre you will be asked to fill up some forms like Travelling allowance and PIQ form etc. Then you will be asked to tell whether you are a fresher, screened out or repeater candidate. Based on that, few groups will be formed in which you will mostly find fresher, screened out and repeaters are grouped respectively and not mixed up.

What are the need of dividing candidates as per repeater and fresher status

A repeater has an experience of how screening and PPDT happens, also he is well aware of what happens in five-day process. SSB provide equal opportunity to a fresher so that he/she is grouped with other fresher candidates like him/her. By doing so, a fresher will perform better and will not feel nervous or underestimated. Similarly, repeaters are grouped with other repeater candidates.

Must Read: Freshers Vs Repeaters in SSB

If this is going to be your first SSB interview, you are a fresher.

Who is screened out candidate?

If you have taken part in Screening i.e. stage I testing but never cleared Stage I testing, you are a screened out candidate. If you have been to stage II testing ever then you will not come under this category irrespective to how many times you got screened out.

Who is the repeater?

If you have faced Stage II testing even once, you are a repeater irrespective to how many times you got screened out, conference out or applied for any other service i.e Army, Navy and Air Force.

In Conversation with Namita Recommended for Indian Air Force

0

It was great having conversation with few recommended candidates which is helping us to know what and how exactly they have tasted the success. In another conversation with Namita Tyagi who has cleared AFSB interview and she has shared her experience here “The magic of hills at Dehradun“.

SSBCrack.com: Congratulations on clearing SSB interview?
Namita: Thank u so much. SSB crack was truly an inspiration and motivating.

SSBCrack.com: So tell us, what motivated you to join the Indian Air Force?
Namita: I somehow always wanted to fly for Indian Air Force. I cannot recall what motivated me to do so as I have spent so many years nurturing this dream. I would rather say that i grew up with this dream. I could not make it to flying, that is another thing, but this is something I always wanted to do.. I wanted to fly for the force.
SSBCrack.com: How did you prepare for it, and were you confident enough about your preparation before SSB?
Namita: As i go screened in my first attempt, I knew the first thing that I had to do was to familiarise myself with the process. For this is I joined a coaching academy and I spoke to my friends who had already attempted and they guided me through it. Furthermore I was lucky to have some very supportive people at my SSB centre. That further helped. I was confident of myself and my preparation as I was very much aware of the fact that this was my last chance to achieve what I always wanted to.
SSBCrack.com: Do you think your excellent writing skills helped you in psychological tests?
Namita: As far as I could figure out, psychological tests are not about very great writing skills. They are about the CONTENT. Good writing skills help for sure but they alone are not the pass. Rest, SSBs are so unpredictable and you can never figure out what is working to your advantage and what is not.
SSBCrack.com: Have you ever felt nervous between any tests during 5 days?
Namita:  I was not at all nervous. They are the most fun filled and cherished days. Today, when I look back at those 5 days, I realise how closely I came across myself there. They were the days of introspection and it’s all about knowing yourself better. The process gave me more confidence. And for the little nervousness and curiosity (to share) I felt, I always used to make a call back home and to friends at the end of the day.
SSBCrack.com: According to you, what SSB look for in a candidate?
Namita: This is very difficult. I have attempted 3 SSBs and still I am not yet able to figure this out. But one thing that I know is … be honest to you first …and this stands good in all situations.
SSBCrack.com: What was your answer for “Why do you want to join IAF”?
Namita:  As I have said, be honest …I answered this question telling about my passion for flying and how desperately I wanted it.
Ti
SSBCrack.com: Not clearing PPBT, was it heart breaking?
Namita: I could not clear the Pilot aptitude and battery test (PABT) which is essential for flying in any defence force. It was shattering but then the type of stimuli you need for this type of test is something that should come to you naturally. You cannot develop them. So, the fact that I attempted it and tried my best was contenting.
SSBCrack.com: Do you think SSB coaching helps aspirants to clear SSB, have you ever taken any professional coaching or guidance?
Namita:: yes, I think it does help . Calling it coaching is unfair. It is guidance and I think it helps a lot to channelize energy in the right direction to achieve the goal.
SSBCrack.com: What you would be if not an officer in Indian Air Force?
Namita: I have no clue!  Never thought of this.
SSBCrack.com: What is your message for repeaters and fresher for SSB interview?
Namita: Be confident about your abilities. Don’t be judgemental about the tasks and attempt to the very best of your abilities. They are the best 5 days and you are going to cherish them all through your life.
SSBCrack: Thank you for speaking to SSBCrack.com
Namita: thank u so much  🙂

Recommended From 12 SSB Bangalore for UES-Pilot

0

My journey of SSB started in 2009 when I was called for TES-NAVY. Unfortunately I was conference out. My 2nd SSB call letter came for UES-PILOT,NAVY SSC.I was told to report on Bangalore railways station on 26th feb 2013.Since I was doing my Engg. from Bangalore only, so I was happy that I got SSB centre at Bangalore. On 26th,I left from my home for railways station. When I reached there, I could see the SSB crowd. There were more than 200 candidates. Since I came there 1 hr before the reporting time, so I thought to introduce myself to others and make friends.

As I was approaching them, even they could see me and I was wearing formals, which made me unique among them as only 5,6 candidates were wearing formals. We introduced each other, and since I was a reapter, so I also shared my earlier experience with them and gave little bit of intro and guidance regarding SSB.
Recommended From 12 SSB Bangalore for UES-Pilot
After 1hr, the SSB bus came to drop the previous batch candidates and to pick us. Fortunately I found one of my friends in the previous batch. He got conference out, I asked him that how many got recommended. He said out of 40 screened in, only 7 were recommended. Then I asked him where did he went wrong and motivated him to improve and give his best in the next attempt. Then we boarded the bus, and my 2nd journey for SSB began. It took 20 minutes to reach the centre. We were told to keep out luggage in the store room and to bring the certificates file. We all came without certificates and sat on the benches. One instructor came and verified our 10th, 12th and Engg. marksheet. Then he segregated the candidates according to repeaters, screened out and fresher and distributed the chest
numbers. I got chest no. 16 and it went till 266. We were then given the PIQ forms to fill and were moved to our barracks. Reporting time for next day was 6 a.m. Since we were 266 candidates and there were water problems in Bangalore so we decided to get up early by 3:30 a.m. and get ready.
Chest no 14a and 18 became my friend we were ready by 4:30.Then we headed towards the mess and had nice breakfast. After that again that instructor came and lined us according to our chest numbers and told us to wait. When all the officers came in the office, then our screening started.
After OIR we were shown a hazy picture congaing 4 people doing some cooking, it could be a chemistry lab scene or a kitchen scene. So according to my perception I wrote a story on cooking competition. After writing we came out and discussed each other’s story. Everybody has written interesting stories. Then we were called for GD,I was in the first batch of 18. Officers came and briefed us with the instructions and narration started. As soon as chest no. 1 ended with his narration, chest no.14 (adjacent to me) started his narration. Everybody got shocked, even the assessors. Then he realized his mistake and felt embarrassed. Then chest no 2 started with his narration and it continued.
Narrated my story very well. As soon as chest no 18 ended with his narration it became a FISH MARKET as usual. After shouting for 5 minutes, assessor told us to shut up and end the discussion as
they couldn’t see us coming on any conclusion. We all came out, had our lunch and were waiting for the results. Finally one officer came with the results. He called chest no 5,7,11,12 and directly went to 19 and so on. “F#CK MAN…I was really shocked that he didn’t call out my no. I was thinking that what I will tell to my family and friends that I got screened out. And the officer went on and on but my chest no was not called. When he was calling the no. from 50 series, suddenly he called chest no 33.It gave me a hope that my chest no could be there in between. But he went on till 150 and my chest no was not there at all. I was not at all listening to what he was saying. And suddenly after chest no 180 he called my chest no., I was not expecting this at all. OMG, this was the worst thing happened to me, the greatest suspense I have encountered in my entire life. Then I went out and joined with the screened in candidates. Total 66 candidates were screened in. We were distributed the new chest no. All the repeaters were grouped in one batch and fortunately I was grouped with freshets got chest no 42.I was so lucky. We were given new PIQs to fill. That day was over then and screened out candidates were taken back to railways station, unfortunately my friends chest no 14and 18 were also screened out. I was feeling bad for them. Later we were shifted to new barracks which were better than older one. THANK GOD!!. There were 8 candidates in one room. I became friend with my roomies. In the evening we had nice dinner and then had a talk with each other. Reporting time for next day was 6:45 a.m.. This time since we were only 66 candidates so we decided to get up at 4:30 a.m.
Next day we got up and got ready, had our breakfast and reported well at time. It was time for PSYCH TEST.1st test was TAT, then WAT,SRT and finally SD. Since I had practised a lot earlier, I was able to complete each part well on time and completely without leaving anything. I was so happy with my performance. That day was over. In the evening we got a news that we were divided in group of 8,and 5 out 8 groups had their GTO on next day, Thank god my group was not in that. We had our GTO the following day.
Next day, those candidates who had their GTO went early by 6 a.m. and those who didn’t have GTO were relaxing. But me and one of my roomy decided to get ready by 9 as we might have interviews. And it happened exactly as we have thought, we were called for interview. When my turn came, I went inside, stood in front of the interviewer. He asked me why I was not selected in my very 1st attempt and told me to show my certificates and few questions about me. Then he told me to sit and then started the real torture. He first asked me about my family, academics, best friends, favourite teachers, subjects, competitive exams etc. Then he stressed on my weakness and was throwing questions around that only. I was able to manage it and tackled the questions boldly and gave genuine and honest answers. But when he jumped on GK questions, I was gone. That was my one of the weakest part. Whatever I knew, I told him, rest I told him that I will find it out. And my interview lasted 50min to 60 min. I don’t know why he told me that I was not prepared well for the SSB. It ended after that. I was little bit disappointed from his comments, so I went to SUBWAY on BRIGADE ROAD and had a CHICKEN TANDOORI to relax myself .Next day was GTO so I went to sleep early as we were told to report at 6 a.m..
Next day came, we dressed in the same dress (white shorts, t- shirts, socks and shoes) and reported at 6a.m. in the ground. We had already taken the feedback and suggestions from the candidates who had their GTO one day before. They were saying that all GTOs were very strict except one and we were hoping to get that as our GTO. Luckily he was our GTO, I was so happy. He started our day with GD.
In both the GDs, I was the one to initiate. So that was the good starting for that day. Then we had GPE, SNAKE RACE, LECTURETTE , followed by INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES, CT, HGT, and FGT. Since I was the only repeater in my group so I had little advantage and accordingly I took that. I was very happy with my performance in GTO. It was much much better than I had expected and also much much better than my previous attempt. It had balanced my performance in interview.
Now I knew that my PSYCH, GTO were awesome and interview was ok ok. I had that feeling of getting recommended. After GTO we all went in our barracks and our group photo that was taken after getting screened in had come, but didn’t took it. One of my friend asked me that why I didn’t took it, I told him that I will take the photograph after getting recommended from here. They were very impressed with my answer. That night we were discussing about each other till midnight, It was really a good time with new friends.
Next day was CONFERENCE DAY , everybody got ready and reported by 7:30 a.m.. We were asking from the candidates the questions asked from them in the conference. Everybody was asked only two common questions:-“HOW WAS YOUR STAY and DO YOU WANTT TO GIVE ANY SUGGESTIONS”. When my turn came, I entered the conference hall confidently. They told me to sit down. First questions they asked me was that how did I prepared myself for this SSB. I told them that after my 1st attempt, I realized where i was lacking and where I did mistakes. So I rectified them, improved my performance.2nd questions they asked me were those which I couldn’t answer at the time of interview(GK questions). Thank God , I had prepared them in advance after my interview was over and I answered all GK questions which I couldn’t at the time of interview. 3rd question they asked me was that “WHY SHOULD THEY RECOMMEND ME”. Again I told them that I had rectified my mistakes, improved my performance, gave my 100% and I think that I was able to cross that threshold, that’s why I think that should be recommended. And lastly they asked me that whether I want to give any suggestions or not? I said NO and it was over.
After lunch the results came, none from the 8 repeater was selected. Total 10 were recommended including me. Among them I was the only repeater who got recommended in that batch. I was so happy that finally I was able to achieve for what I came here.

Interview with Komal Pawar Recommended from 2 AFSB Mysore

22

We took some time to interview Miss Komal Pawar who has cleared AFSB interview at 2 AFSB Mysore through AFCAT entry. Komal has beautifully answered our questions which is indeed helpful and motivational, we hope it will help our readers to analyse where they stand.

SSBCrack.com: Congratulations on clearing SSB in first attempt and your medical too. How does it feel when you hear your chest number at the time of final results?
Komal: I’m thankful to SSBCrack for giving me this opportunity of sharing my views and experiences with the aspirants, and hope they prove beneficial to them. Thinking of the last day of my SSB results brings back my thrill. It was the moment of dream coming true, for few seconds I was totally deaf and completely lost in my own world, total open mouth covered with hands and eyes widely open without a blink . But after that , even I was sad as my 6 other group mates were going back, the days we spend together were the most memorable days. The unity and combined efforts taken by all of us in our group made us to spill at the moment others were leaving. Whether we select or reject, but I think the lessons we learn at SSB are the most important for our lifetime.
SSBCrack.com: What motivated you to join the Indian Airforce?
Komal: I was an NCC cadet from class 8th, and was always very keen interested in watching the programme held on 26th January at Rajpath. The main attraction was the jets flying high and colours blown by them. I was always willing to do something like that, but I was not having sufficient knowledge of how to join that, because my NCC was Army wing, and we were only given the lessons of RDC parade. But later one of my college friend, Krishna, who was also an NCC cadet, told me about the AFCAT entry, and motivated me to again focus on defence after grads.
SSBCrack.com: What were your preparations for AFCAT and AFSB interview?
Komal: My AFCAT exam was held after my graduation results, when I was preparing for aptitude, and the hobby of reading novels had proved much beneficial for the written, and for AFSB, I used some books of Utkarsh and Arihant publication, which were gifted to me by one of my NCC sir in class 12th, he too had always motivated me to think my career in defence, saying I belong to none other than defence. During the period between results declaration and SSB, luckily I came across many people who had either appeared the SSB or had some of the information about that, and they provided me with the necessary guidance, though it was in the form of “do’s and don’t do’s” , may be because of this I need not have to join any special coaching. They provided me with small tips about first day screening and other tests.
SSBCrack.com: Do you think first chance at SSB is a golden chance?
Komal: Yeah it is something like that, First chance is obviously a golden chance at SSB, because most of the time, fresher are insane and truly narrate their story without hesitation (at least it was in my case), while repeaters have a well before hand knowledge and they accordingly model their answers. But even repeaters need not have to worry, because I heard that 8 to 9 times repeaters have been selected at their attempts.
SSBCrack.com: What actually worked out for you in SSB, do you think luck factor also helps in SSB interview?
Komal: As it is said “Victorious person conceive victory in their mind before entering the battle field”, luckily same thing happened with me when I was at the AFSB, not even a single time did I thought of rejection, and the one who were saying so, I use to run away from them, because I believe that negative words brings negativity. I was getting inspired by the posters displayed everywhere at the AFSB and motivate myself, because only self motivation can help us to face any challenge. I always kept smiley face and had conversation about after selection. After my interview I shared my experience to all the others, and someone pointed me that I’d committed a mistake, and that I may get rejected because of my openness, that time I was scared and a bit depressed, but I didn’t let the turmoil appear at my face, and consoled my mind thinking of the quote which I learned from cricket, “A game is never lost until the last bowl is bowled”.
SSBCrack.com: How did you gather the confidence to face defence interview for the every first time?
Komal: The night before my interview was scheduled, I was worried and scared that I’ll stammer in front of the officer, as it was my first time to face any of the officer. But then that night I analysed myself for at least an hour, I thought of my parents, neighbours, my teachers, friends, colleagues and the compliments they have given me, the qualities they suggest me to improve in myself, What were the struggles in my life and how did I face them. What all good deeds I have done until now, were they really helpful, how many times I hurt people , what kind of person I’m, do I fit in defence according to the kind of nature I have. Do I really love my nation, am I ready to do everything that comes to my way to serve my motherland, and many such questions were hounding me that night, and I found my answers to those. Later I sat upright and did a confession, answered all these questions, thinking as if I’m telling to one of my very close friend who left me at my school times and met me after a long time. and yes it was my inner spirit listening to me, after I was done I felt satisfied as if my soul has approved my answers and told me to do same in front of the officer at the interview. It was my first time I got this realisation, and felt god on my side as said, “God helps those who help themselves”.
SSBCrack.com: What was your answer for “Why do you want to join IAF”?
Komal: The day from when I reached AFSB, I was continuously watching the ADO’s and the officers in their uniform, and how they enjoyed playing games after their working hours, being from diverse region they mingle with others, I always wished to live this life, doing all adventurous, thrilling things, things which are dangerous but when done gives a different kind of satisfaction, happiness, this type of life is possible in defence sector, along with my work I will be doing all my interest things. And it is said that we never get tired when the work we perform is of our interest and more than work it seems to be a fun and we enjoy our life. And once we start enjoying our life the output we give at our work is best, both in quality and quantity.
SSBCrack.com: Do you think SSB coaching helps aspirants to clear SSB, have you ever taken any professional coaching or guidance?
Komal: I had never taken any professional coaching or guidance, I felt that I love doing things which are done here, and I believed that every person gets the field which we deserve to give our best contribution in that field, and field of interest was this, though I was distracted for long period but finally came back.
And I think in some cases we do need professional coaching, as in the case of obstacles, we get a before hand knowledge about the hurdles and we can shape our thinking accordingly and even small tips for SDT and interviews may prove helpful, rest all is our own efforts. I got the tips for SDT from Ranjit, thanks to him, who I met randomly, the period before SSB was really full of omens for me.

SSBCrack.com: What you would be if not an officer in Indian Air Force?
Komal: Yeah this is the question which makes me wonder about myself, but yes surely I would have been a software engineer at one of the IT firm, with all the compromises done of my interests fields.
SSBCrack.com:What is your message for repeaters and fresher for SSB interview?
You: For fresher I would like to say that, better prepare your best for your first attempt as it is a golden chance for you. I was not knowing about this but my friend said this, and later when I reminisced about those things  I too believed that if fresher do silly mistakes they are considered. So think your first attempt as the last one and prepare for that.
For repeaters, I don’t have anything to say because they are better experienced than me. But only one thing I would like to suggest that, analyse yourself, what you really want, maybe I think that will help to crack the SSB.
