How to Prepare Well for AFCAT 02/2013

Hope all of you are preparing for AFCAT 02 2013 written test which is going to be held in this month. We are surprised and happy to hear that, many candidate cleared their AFCAT written test earlier with the AFCAT preparation tips provided by us. We also look at the latest trend of AFCAT while giving preparation tip and surprisingly, AFCAT written test is getting tougher and tougher with time. Not only the written test but the intake is also getting less.

So, as you have decided to crack the AFACT 02 2013 written test, its our pleasure to help you with this. We took some time to analyse all AFCAT written test papers since 2011, yes we are keeping both eyes on AFCAT trends which is changing with each test, this helps us to provide you to give correct insight of AFCAT written exam.

How to Prepare Well for AFCAT 02/2013

When we say the AFCAT written exam is getting hard with time, we also believe that it becomes easy if you go with preparation. If you plan for the written test and practise just before 10 days, you can easily crack it ( We consider that you have at least average skills to pass it).

Before any test preparation, you must look out for various resources you can have, free as well as paid one. For AFCAT return test, you must look for:

  1. Previous AFCAT Question Papers
  2. Sample AFCAT Question Papers
  3. Best AFCAT preparation book
Now, you have all resources, lets decide how to plan the preparation. For that you must know what is the format of AFCAT question paper (which you can check from previous question papers). Now you can prioritize and decide what to prepare first and focus more.

How to Prepare Different Sections of AFCAT Written Exam

  1. General Awareness : Most of us may find it difficult because General Awareness preparation is endless and even with good preparation, sometimes you do not get questions from what you have prepared. But, if you can have a look on events happened six – seven months back, that would certainly help you to score good marks in General Awareness. But, again you do not need to spend more time in reading everything for GK. General Knowledge preparation is something which can not be done in short period of time, so if you are interested in improving your GK, you can start for it from now. Generally these questions do not take much time so you can start answering from this section. Also your mind will be fresh which can help you recall few answers. Or else, you must try this section at last after finish other sections.
  2. Verbal Ability in English : Difficulty level of this section is average, we would say it average because it is not easy, sometimes it is not average as well but more difficult. Indian Air Force has raised the standard of question papers and you will really find this section a hard nut to crack. But, aspirants those who have strong hold of English language, won’t be facing any difficulty as such. This section section do take some time but also need lot of concentration while reading the paragraphs and sentences. It is better to start of with this section early and do not keep it for last.
  3. Numerical Ability : This section is easy for you if you are good at Maths in general. Also, you know what type of questions you will be getting which makes your preparation easier. Aspirants who are strong in this section can start with it, but others who are not sure, may leave it for later and try to grab as much as marks they can from other sections. Because once you start doing this section, it will take your time and sometime when you don’t get the answer, it may reduce your confidence as well.
  4. Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test: This section is very easy, takes little concentration but can be done easily. It is better to have a look at few examples linked here. There are two types of questions comes under that which are from Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability. You can see sample questions here. It is better to attempt these question as soon as possible because with free mind you will get most of them correct.
Negative Marking in AFCAT: This is something you need to take care of, as you know the cut off for AFCAT remains near 150 or so. Then, plan accordingly and do not bluff because three wrong answers in AFCAT would cost your one correct answer.
Hope these little suggestions would help you to crack AFCAT 02 2013 written exam. Hope you guys share your experience and tips as well. If you have any suggestions, don’t forget to write them in the comment section below. All the best warriors.

5 Personality Traits Closely Observed By SSB And Ways To Develop It

3

SSB is a test to minutely observe a person’s qualities and based on their observations they decide whether a person has it in him/her or not. Here ‘It’ means personality characteristics. It’s very important to develop those characteristics if you feel that you do not have them, this is because everybody has qualities in them it’s just that some have them in abundance and thus are able to show easily and some are having a little of it and hence are shy.

But the thing is my friends that you can do anything you want if you practice it well, the saying “Practice makes a man (woman) perfect” is not said in vain. Here are a few qualities that need to be present in a ‘future officer’.

  1. Good Physique: Well most of you will say that it is given by God but tell me sincerely are you not impressed by a person who has a good physique instantly? Well by physique I don’t mean you have been all tall, good-looking and all, it just means that you should have a proper body weight and must be fit, if you are taking healthy food and exercising or playing  a sport everyday you’ll be naturally fit. So you’ll be naturally confident!
  2. Voice: Your voice should be impressive; I mean not very shrill not very heavy but commanding. You should sound like an officer. It is definitely not possible to change your voice but you can moderate a little bit if you like. If you sound very shrill then make sure while putting point your pitch is maintained to an extent which sounds okay.
  3. Leadership: Being a leader is not often something you can choose to be or not be. Each officer becomes a leader in the performance of helping people to solve problems and work through difficult situations. Leadership is something you can get by developing confidence. You should have confidence on yourself. You must learn to take initiative to start with begin with small things like taking part in school & college activities.cadets passing out
  4. Body Language: Your body language matter a lot. Even if you have a good personality it won’t help until you have a good body language. It means you must learn to walk firmly, sit upright, stand erect etc. You should never slouch or drop your shoulder while walking or sitting. Practice it in your daily life, walk firmly watch yourself in mirror while walking or sitting. If become habitual to have a good body language you’ll definitely make a mark.
  5. Zeal for Defense: You must have a zeal for defense services. This means you must love adventure, must be lively and ready to take part in any event. You can become lively by taking part in many activities in your institution or in your vicinity. You must play some sport to improve your personality because sports definitely enhances personality and induces discipline in life. Thus you must have a passion for defense which I am sure you’ll be having otherwise you were not be reading this article and visiting this website.

A Learner At SSB

1
A Learner At SSB
Hi, I am Gaurav Saini, a working journalist with Press Trust of India in the national capital city New Delhi and a defence aspirant since last many years. I would be happy if I could contribute to the pool of experiences, interact and share ideas here at this common platform. Cheers.

Give credits to Farhan Akhtar, for he had lit up the spark in me and my friend. I count some people on my side while I make this assertion that reality is far from whatever was projected by our hero as he easily elucidated about the Indian army recruitment procedure in the inspiring movie using these words.
“Ek written exam, ek chota sa interview aur…  😀

Nevertheless, it has been a kind of learning experience which we can share. To begin with, was it the olive green uniform, essentially, or haircut of the flamboyant army men that motivated us, or was it something else? We have the idea today. We are yet to achieve that uniform and haircut though. As I narrate my experiences, I will try to stay away from what all transpired in my attempts, in a bid to avoid any excessive stretching, but would happily share the lessons learnt.
I have seen the exit doors much before I could see anything else. I have even flunked written exams and gone through the whole process many times before they showed me the doors again (referring to Conference here). Same goes with my friend. Honestly, we made mistakes, and we laugh at them whenever we sit together. But we have a fair idea of the fact that the mistakes need to be rectified.
Seven years in flashback, twice I failed to pass the NDA written exam before I could clear CDS entrance and face my first SSB interview in mid-August, 2010. I barely had the idea of things lying ahead. A confident, ambitious Journalism graduate couldn’t do better than four of his bright fellows.
Since then, possible outcomes have generally been two – Not Recommended or Screened Out, taking the total no. of unsuccessful attempts to five. My friend’s report card is not very different. Ornate with complex pattern of few rejections under absolute different circumstances, it still has a place for a much sought after ‘plus’ sign. In fact, both of our report cards have it.
But as we reckon errors committed, we jot them down and try to improve upon them. Let’s skip few more things and come to the point. Things that are important.
Lesson learnt – Being confident is good. But one needs to be clear about his/her ideas related to any damn thing in the world, ranging from personal life to military issues. And, by the way, nobody expects us to be aware of everything under the sky. But whatever you know, projects it clearly. Communicating in an unfocused or imprecise manner can cost you heavily.
Secondly, we are expected to follow rules in army life but inside your head you are a free bird. You enjoy the luxury to write any story, any idea, and any reaction. There is no limit to what you think. Forcefully writing down positive stories and ideas to make everything appear rosy doesn’t help either. You are never expected to write down positive sentence for every negative word, write down whatever comes to your mind first.
This shows you are human being and not a robot programmed to do few specific functions. Saying no as a response to a question is not a punishable act, until and unless the query examines your knowledge about yourself. Assessors may not like judge you in other areas if they are unsure of your goals, relations, plans and such things.
Third, nothing is as healthy for defence aspirants as reading is. Reading is panacea to all the maladies related to interviews. One is free to read even Champak, if it serves the purpose. Again, no limits over what you read till you can substantiate it with your knowledge of things. Be fearless, open but not excessively coercive.
There is no sure shot funda for cracking SSB as far as what I know at this stage. But you gotta keep working hard, keep improving chances you have. Most importantly, don’t be afraid of rejections. Things may push you hard against ground. It is up-to you whether you want to resist or lie as it is. Many may differ with what has been said above. Opinions are welcome.

What is Fast Track Selection by Indian Air Force

3

Recently Indian Air Force has published its Fast Track Selection Notification for the flying branch, apparently IAF is conducting FTS for flying branch after very long time, they are doing it for Meteorological branch regularly. This might be the reason few candidates are not aware of the procedure for Fast Track Selection test or the selection procedure of FTS. In this post, we will try to cover most of the things related to Fast Track Selection of Indian Air Force.

What is Fast Track Selection

Fast Track Selection aka FTS is a conducted by Indian Air Force to select candidates for the respective branch. FTS is conducted in short amount of time and there is no fixed duration for the release of its notification, it may or may not happen yearly which is totally based on the number of vacancies.

Syllabus of Fast Track Selection

  1. Written Test Like AFCAT
  2. Screening Test Like SSB or AFSB Interview
    • PPDT
Fast Track Selection

Test Procedure of Fast Track Selection

  1. On the spot registration
  2. Written Test
  3. PPDT ( for candidate those who have cleared written test)
  4. Allotment of AFSB centre and Dates for AFSB Interview ( only for candidates those who have cleared PPDT)
Note: Candidate who fails in written test will be routed back.

Documents Required for Fast Track Selection

  • Two copies of pre-filled FTS Admit Card (on A4 size paper) as per format given in this advertisement.
  • Original certificate and Marksheet of class Xth (as proof of date of birth) and of class XIIth.
  • Original certificate and mark sheets (all semesters/years) of Graduation.
  • Proof of identity such as Passport, Driving Licence, Voter Identity Card, College Identity Card or any other valid photo identity proof.
  • Three recent colour passport size photographs.

Who is eligible for Fast Track Selection

  • Both men and women with qualification and age as mentioned in the notification.
  • One who has already attend AFSB interview for the same course is not eligible for FTS. (Suppose you have already attend AFSB for the same course through AFCAT or CDSE Entry)

In short, FTS is more like AFCAT entry but here IAF personnel will be coming to major cities and conducting it with speed as the name say FAST TRACK. Also it is an additional opportunity for the candidates those who have missed AFCAT entry or failed in AFCAT written test.

Importance of Half-Group Task

Importance of Half-Group Task
Half Group Task also know as HGT is conducted after the PGT. HGT is similar to PGT, but the difference is that the group is divided into two sets.  i.e. If your group contains totally 10 persons, then it is divided into 5 of two groups. Like this the GTO will see the performance of the candidates in close. The rules are same for this like PGT. It is also a leaderless exercise .

Rules of Half Group Task

Colour Rule:  The obstacles are painted in three colors namely
    • White
    • Black
    • Red
Each one describes one rule.
  • White: – Both the candidate and the helping materials can touch the obstacle at this region.
  • Black: – Only the candidate can touch the obstacle in this region and not the helping materials.
  • Red   : – Both the candidate and helping material should not touch the obstacles.
Out of Bound Rule
These areas include the mud surfaces inside the task area and some color codes as described above.

After the GD and PGT, some of the candidates might have assumed the role of a leader and some of the candidates may not have been able to express themselves or put forth their views because of the presence of brilliant candidates in his group. After the PGT and GD, the GTO might have formed an assessment about each candidate and he observes every candidate minutely in HGT  to conclude or to change his former assessment.

As the number of candidates is reduced to half, GTO can minutely observe the leadership qualities of every candidate. Also in HGT, every candidate has a wider opportunity to show his various character traits and leadership qualities if in case he failed to do so in PGT. So you must give importance to HGT as this test will mark your leadership qualities. After the HGT, the GTO will form a clear cut assessment about every candidate and he assesses the candidates further in the following tests to confirm his earlier findings.
