AFCAT 2 2017 Paper Analysis By Indus Academy

More than 1.5 lakh candidates appeared for Air Force Common Aptitude Test (AFCAT)  exam conducted by Indian Air Force across 62 centres nationwide  held for to fill up the vacancies in ofofficer forlying duty, Technical duty and Ground duty . AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year in which both Engineering and Non-Engineering graduates are eligible for officer entry.

While Candidates  aspiring for Ground duty and flying duty had to appear for The two hour duration AFCAT  paper consisting 100 questions consisting of English , quantitative aptitude , verbal and non verbal reasoning along with general knowledge; Engineering Graduates aspiring for Technical duty had to appear additionally for 45 minutes  EKT (Engineering knowledge Test) paper consisting of 50 questions .  Each question carried 3 marks , along with one-third  negative marking .

Analyzing the AFCAT Paper,  Chandigarh based  Indus academics UPSC Exam Expert Kunal Singh said – “With conventional pattern in mathematics and GK  followed by hiccups in English  and reasoning section, many aspirants found paper quite heterogeneous yet moderate and scoring  in nature  . we need to keep in mind that AFCAT is not conducted by UPSc hence toughness level stands nowhere in comparison to CDSE/NDA exams.

GK Section Analysis:

The Paper portrayed similar pattern as per the  trend of last 4 years. Clearly we found that  General knowledge questions were more “trivial, factual and memory based” instead of being “Current Affairs” which included facts on Grasslands ,capitals , organizations and reserves  which are commonly asked   questions in Sainik school /SSC entrance exams. In fact  GK section was a cakewalk for those who generally prepare for SSC or Territorial Army exams. It was quite disappointing to note that AIR FORCE board conducting recruitment for Air force officers hardly stressed on questions based on Indian Defence.”

English /Mathematics/reasoning Section:

“ English was comparatively  tough  with competitive vocabulary followed by moderate reasoning and Mathematics section. Proportion of unapproachable questions in English vocabulary sections  has increased than previous year. Although the Mathematics based questions were quite scoring few reasoning based questions were heterogeneous in nature which made them tough in nature. While few questions were standard ,few ones were completely unanswerable with the nature of facts being asked which gives a picture that Air force Board has tried to make it sure that no one scores 100 percent  which is deterrent for hard working  aspirants .“-

Some of the memory based GK questions as asked in AFCAT-II 2017 are:

  1. Lothal is located in which state? Ans: Gujarat (was in news recently)

AFCAT 2 2017 Answers Key [All Questions]

Section-wise question paper analysis of AFCAT 2 2017:

General Awareness:

This section was easy if you follow news and have a good GK. I have asked the same thing to other candidates who attended the exam in the Hyderabad centre (HYD-07, CMRTC) and most of them had the same deduction that keeping up with current affairs and reading newspapers will make it easier to crack the general awareness section.

Verbal Ability in English:

The same thing goes here too, read – magazines, newspapers, editorial, etc. The explanation is, it keeps you up to date, brushes up you GK, improves your reading skills and surely helps with the antonyms and synonyms. So, about 20 questions (and 60 marks) go here itself.

Numerical Ability:

For the major part, I have skipped the maths section. I was under tremendous pressure and was unable to concentrate properly (they were not allowing for washrooms, you see). Pro Tip: Before taking the exam, do attend washroom and do not drink water, or any other fluid for that matters. On a serious note, the numerical ability was also easy as it comprised of the syllabus from the elementary school maths and a bit from 11thand 12th.

Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test section:

This section judges the verbal skills and spatial ability of the candidate. This is the skill that you can’t develop in a day or two. It requires daily practice and logical problem solving skills applied in daily life.

EKT:

I have also attended the EKT paper for Computer Science stream and I found that a bit difficult. But taking the fact that I attempted the paper with no preparations, had I brushed up a few of my engineering subjects, it would also have been easier for me.

Concluding, I can say that AFCAT is easier to crack than CDSE and NDA exams. Add that with dedicated preparations and passion, voila, there is your SSB call letter!

Will AFCAT 2 2017 Exam Be Postponed?

0

Many candidates have emailed us and also asked us on social media regarding the AFCAT 2 2017 exam scheduled on 27 Aug 2017 Sunday across the country. Especially for the candidates who have applied for the AFCAT centre near Delhi, Haryana and riot affected areas. Will there be any change that AFCAT 2 2017 will be rescheduled or postponed? Well, there is no official confirmation on the same from Indian air force, also the situation of riot affected areas are also not so clear. There could be following possibilities.

  1. AFCAT is conducted across the country and it takes too much time and money to conduct an exam like AFCAT which is conducted by Indian Air force.
  2. There is a high possibility that the exam will not be postponed completely but it may get postponed in the riot affected areas, but again that depends on the condition of these areas on exam day.
  3. There is no official confirmation that the exam will be postponed, so aspirants must prepare for the AFCAT 2 2017 accordingly and write the exam.

Candidates who have their exams in the riot affected areas must contact numbers given below to ask any questions they have:

RECOMMENDED FOR INDIAN ARMY TGC ENTRY

Hello friends! I am recommended from 24 SSB Bengaluru, TGC-126. If my experience helps you in any way, I’ll be very happy. My date of reporting was 24 July 2017. I reported there on time. As I was screened out twice, so this time I went with no expectations. On our reporting day, we had our documentation and we got our chest numbers. My chest number was 4. I had my dinner thereafter and slept in order to be effective for the next day.

Day-1 (OIR, PP&DT)

OIR test was very easy,  in ssb we are always under big pressure of lack of time. But somehow, I was able to control all my OIR. Now comes PPDT, this time I was totally unprepared and fully relaxed with no expectations, so I was prepared to write whatever comes to my mind. I tried to forget, what I was taught in the coaching. I just wrote a practical story with practical outcomes. I was good in my narration and GD. So, this time I was confident that I’ll clear the stage-1.

After lunch, results were announced. My chest number was the first one who got screen in. So, my new chest number was 1.

(I was talking to God that night, to please give me strength and will power to do well in remaining days as I was totally unprepared. I was even laughing at myself that what I am going to now :D, but I left everything on almighty)

Day-2 (psychological tests)

TAT- I tried to write practical stories, I just imagined myself as the main character in the picture and correlated that scene to my life and just wrote meaningful stories.

WAT- This test requires quick thinking and very fast handwriting. Just write what comes to your mind, but keep in mind that your sentences should show your qualities.

SRT- I like this test a lot. We just need to write our reactions to the situations, don’t think about write or wrong answer in it, just write what comes to your mind. Be true and natural while writing your reactions. Try to do as much as possible.

SD- Next test was self-description, I prepared a few value points in my mind the last night and I just wrote all those points in details.

As I came out of the testing hall, I was informed that my interview is scheduled today. So I rushed to candidates accommodation and gt dress up in my formals. My interview lasted for around 45-50 mins. I answered all the questions related to my life, family, friends, and teachers. But was not able to answer any of Gk ques, current affairs, and Indian geography. Interviewing officer tried to put me under as much possible stress he could. He asked me about trips with my friends, sports that I play, etc. So overall I was not satisfied with my interview.

Current Affairs questions will be from last 5-7 months (for AFCAT, NDA, CDS, TA)

Day-3 (GTO-1)

Day-3 started with GD in which according to me, I did well. I just spoke in the same way we give our point of view while having a normal discussion with our friends.

GPE- Group planning exercise was not up to mark, as I forgot the important locations and I wrote rubbish in that but did well in its GD.

PGT & HGT- I was not able to give many ideas, but was with the group all the time helping them, coordinating well with each others. Our group wasn’t able to complete PGT- in scheduled time.

It was an average day for me, from the performance point of view.

DAY-4 ( GTO-2)

I did well in FGT and individual obstacles. In command task, I asked for help from one of the subordinates, but timely completed my command task. Day-4 was overall, good for me.

DAY-5 (Conference)

An officer in the morning told us about all olqs that are required in a candidates for getting selected in ssb. Thereafter, we were told to be present in conference hall according to chest number on the sound of bell.

As I was chest number 1, it took around 25-30 mins discussion before calling my chest number. While waiting for the bell outside conference hall, I was just remembering god and thanked him for everything and asked for his grace in result as well.

I was then called in, I wished president of board. They just asked me 2 basic questions to which I answered smartly and confidently. And I was sent back.

After around half an hour, the same officer came with a folder in his hands. My heart was pumping very hard. I was doing the same thing i.e remembering the almighty. He was motivating us, but my all focus was on god.

Then he suddenly opened his folder to announce the result. His words were,” selected candidate ….. Chest number-1” that moment was difficult to digest, I was stunned, I shouted “yes sir with my name” .

He congratulated me, closed his folder and went away. I was still doing the same thing, “thanking god for his grace and love”.

So friends, just enjoy every test and task in order to give your best. Don’t take it as competition at all. Just be natural and truthful. Be like what you are, exactly same way how you are with your friends while on a trip. Just enjoy the stay there and enjoy each and every task.

 Gud luck to all!
