Ashok Chakra:

AC was awarded to Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala. Cpl JP Nirala was a specialist weapon operator in the IAF Special Forces Detachment. He was attached with 13 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, under the aegis of ‘Op Rakshak’ in Jammu & Kashmir for active counterinsurgency operations. On 18 Nov 17, based on specific tech intelligence, an offensive was launched jointly by the Garud detachment and 13 RR in Chanderger village of Bandipora district in J&K. The Garud detachment covertly approached the target house where the suspected terrorists were hiding and laid a close quarter ambush. Cpl Nirala, displaying exceptional battle craft, positioned himself close to the approach of the hideout, thus cutting off all possibilities of an escape by the insurgents. Laying this ambush itself at such close quarters demanded a very high degree of courage and professional acumen.

While the detachment laid in wait, six terrorists hiding in the house, rushed out, shooting and lobbing grenades at the Garuds. Cpl Nirala, disregarding personal safety and displaying indomitable courage, retaliated with effective lethal fire and gunned down a category ‘A’ terrorist named Ubaid Alias Osama Jungi (nephew of LeT commander Zaki Ur Rehman Lakhvi). Readjusting his position to protect his colleagues and preventing other terrorists from escaping, Cpl Nirala killed one more category `A+’ terrorist, named Mehmud Bhai (LeT North Kashmir commander) and injured two others. In this violent exchange of fire, Cpl Nirala was hit by a volley of small arms fire. Despite being critically injured, the Corporal continued retaliatory fire. Subsequently, he succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds received in the fierce encounter, which resulted in the killing of all six dreaded terrorists.

For this act of most conspicuous bravery, pre-eminent valour and supreme sacrifice, Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala has been awarded Ashok Chakra (Posthumous).

Kirti Chakra:

KC was awarded to Maj Vijayant Bist of 4 JAKLI for his act of bravery in neutralizing infiltrators.

On 06 June 2017 at 2140 hours, leading an ambush in Chorgali Forest of Uri district of Jammu and Kashmir, Major Vijayant spotted infiltration and immediately engaged them.  In the intense firefight, some terrorists infiltrated into Goalta forest.

At 0500 hours on 07 June, Major Vijayant tracked the terrorists and at 1140 hours engaged them in a fierce firefight.  While closing in with the terrorists, the first scout of the patrol Rifleman Raj Paul got injured. Under heavy volume of fire from the terrorist, the officer unmindful of his personal safety crawled forward and pulled his colleague almost 30 meters in an undulating ground behind cover. The terrorists continued to engage the patrol with heavy fire. Undeterred, he regardless of personal dangers, carried out hot pursuit of escaping terrorists. Displaying tactical acumen and extraordinary physical courage, he moved forward and engaged the fleeing terrorist and thus prevented their escape.  The officer motivated his team to continue the search of terrorists for next 48 hours under adverse weather conditions. His perseverance fructified on 09 June at 1345 hours when the terrorists were sighted again. In ensuing firefight, officer dashed forward, unmindful of terrorist’s heavy fire and lobbed grenades while firing on them. In this daring act, he neutralized one terrorist. However, the second terrorist charged towards the patrol and came face to face with the officer. Major Vijayant displaying nerves of steel and raw courage engaged the second terrorist in a close quarter battle and eliminated him at point blank range.

For displaying conspicuous gallantry and indomitable spirit, beyond the call of duty for eliminating two terrorists, saving the life of one comrade under a heavy volume of fire and gallantly leading his men in neutralising three more terrorists, Major Vijayant is awarded “KIRTI CHAKRA”.

8 Things Every Defence Aspirant Can learn From General Bipin Rawat

0
Defence Aspirant Can learn From General Bipin Rawat

Gen Bipin Rawat is the 27th Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army. He became the chief on 17 December 2016, by superseding two more senior Lieutenant Generals, Praveen Bakshi and P. M. Hariz. He is the fourth officer from the Gorkha Brigade to become the Chief of the Army Staff. Prior to his appointment as COAS, Gen Rawat assumed the post of GOC-C Southern Command on 1 January 2016 and the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff on 1 September 2016.
How To Prepare for SSB Interview:

Here are 8 things that all the defence aspirants can learn from the life and career of Gen Bipin Rawat:

  1. Sword of Honour is a lifetime achievement:

Gen Rawat won the Sword of Honour when he graduated from the Indian Military Academy in 1978. Of all his course mates, this was his first achievement as a commissioned officer in the Indian army. This carries a long way in life and career.

  1. Adaptability:

Gen Rawat hails from Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand, got commissioned in the Gorkha Rifles, commanded the Indian Brigade in UN peacekeeping mission in Congo and went on the command the Pune-based Southern Army Command. If this does not speak about his adaptability, just like many other officers, I don’t know what will.

  1. Studies Never End:

Studying is an integral part of succeeding in life. There comes a point when the ladder of success runs out of stairs. It is when you need to make new stairs and that comes by education. Gen Rawat is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Higher Command Course at Fort Leavenworth, USA. He has an MPhil in Defence Studies from Madras University, a Diploma in Management and another in Computer Studies. In 2011, he was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut for his research on military-media strategic studies. Studies are never-ending. Make your mind up for that and start working on it.

  1. Your Father is your major inspiration:

Gen Bipin Rawat’s father Lt Gen Lakshman Singh Rawat retired as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff in 1988 and is his inspiration, Gen Bipin Rawat followed his father’s footsteps to rise to the highest rank in the army. This is perhaps for the first time that the son of the former Deputy Chief will go on to become the chief of the 1.3 million strong Indian Army.

  1. Accidents are meant to learn from it and move on:

On 3 Feb 2015, Gen Bipin Rawat survived a helicopter crash when the single-engine helicopter he was flying crashed minutes after it took off from Dimapur, Nagaland. Unfortunately, while Gen Rawat was recovering from his accident, his father passed away just a week later on 11 Feb 2015.

Current Affairs eBooks
  1. Don’t take it easy on terrorists:

In June 2015, 18 Indian soldiers were killed in an ambush by militants belonging to UNLFW in Manipur. The Indian Army responded with cross-border surgical strikes by 21 Para who struck an NSCN-K base in Myanmar. 21 Para was under the operational control of the Dimapur-based III Corps, which was then commanded by Gen Rawat.

  1. Iron fist for the enemies of the world :

Gen Rawat commanded the Indian brigade during the UN peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2008. Indian peacekeepers performed splendidly under his leadership. The general is credited with providing dynamic leadership under the UN banner. The Indian peacekeepers switched their approach from a velvet glove to an iron fist under his leadership. He was twice awarded the Force Commander’s Commendation.

  1. Be ready to take on new roles and challenges:

Gen Rawat commanded a spectrum of formations before becoming the chief. He commanded a company in Uri, an infantry battalion in the Eastern sector along the LAC, 5 Sector of Rashtriya Rifles (Sopore) as brigade commander, 19 Infantry Division (Uri), III Corps (Dimapur) and was General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-C) Southern Command (Pune). He also held staff assignments at the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), General Staff Officer Grade 2 at the Military Operations Directorate, logistics staff officer of a Re-organised Army Plains Infantry Division (RAPID) in central India, Colonel Military Secretary and Deputy Military Secretary in the Military Secretary’s Branch and Senior Instructor in the Junior Command Wing. He also commanded MONUSCO for the UN Peacekeeping mission.

Conclusion:

No matter how much you achieve in life, there is always scope for new learnings in life and we must always keep on expanding our scope for improvement. This can not be taught better by anyone else except the life of Gen Bipin Rawat itself.

A living inspiration!

IAF OFFICER HONEY TRAPPED - CHARGES OF SPYING

An Indian Air Force officer, posted at the Air HQs here, has been taken into custody on charge of spying, sources said on Wednesday.

According to a source, during a routine counter intelligence surveillance carried out by the IAF’s Central Security and Investigation Team, the officer, who is a group captain, was found indulging in “unwanted activities through unauthorised electronic devices”.

The source added that the officer has been taken into custody for further questioning.

The services have a strict code on engaging on social media, which restricts soldiers from sharing their identity, rank, posting and other professional details.

The restrictions include posting pictures in uniform.

In December, 2015, a dismissed IAF official was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly passing on information to intelligence operatives suspected to be backed by Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Real Story Behind Shopain Firing -Plot To Defame Army EXPOSED

Real Story Behind Shopain Firing

Source: Republic It was on Sunday that the Jammu-Kashmir police booked Major Aditya and the Army’s 10 Garhwal for murder and attempt to murder for the Shopian firing. The move came after a group of stone pelters attacked an army convoy in Shopian, after which the Army had to resort to retaliatory firing. Two civilians were killed in the firing.

Now, Republic TV has accessed an information that says the army convoy was under attack by the stone-pelters and the army fired at the pelters for self defence.

Story Behind Shopain Firing
Injured Soldiers

Real Story Behind Shopain Firing

  • 10 Garhwal Rifles was being replaced by another unit.
  • They were supposed to move to Balapora and there were two routes. In one route, there was stone pelting in morning and hence the 20 vehicle convoy, including three QRT, decided to take Ganapura road. At one point in the route, the vehicles were to take a right turn.
  • However, three vehicles missed the turn and went ahead by about 100 metres. They then reversed and hence speed decreased.
  • This is when stone pelting started. A JCO got off the vehicle to assess the situation. He got hit in head and collapsed.
  • The crowd became more belligerent. The army personnel fired shot in the air. The crowd still did not go back and continued pelting stones. When the pelters came too close is when the Army opened fire.

Sources said that the army had indeed fired in air 3-4 times, however, it opened fire when the crowd was 10 metres away from the unconscious JCO.

Furthermore, Sources told Republic that Major Aditya was not even present at the spot at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, internet services have been blocked in Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian and curfew has been imposed in parts of the valley. The public transport in the valley and train services between Baramulla and Banihan have been suspended.
