An Open Letter From The Former Chief Of The Naval Staff To The PM And President Of The Country

0
An Open Letter From The Former Chief Of The Naval Staff To The PM And President

Hello, Warriors! Indian Armed forces is a place where irrespective of one’s religion and cultural backgrounds, equal opportunities are given to its soldiers and officers. The Former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral L. Ramdas knew this well and stood up against the injustice done to the minorities in India.

In an open letter to the PM and the President, Admiral L. Ramdas expresses his concerns over the issue and says that he is forced to hang his head in shame.

Here is the open letter written by Admiral L. Ramdas (Retd.):

“Honourable President and Honourable Prime Minister,

An Open Letter From The Former Chief Of The Naval Staff To The PM And PresidentI have served in the Armed Forces of India – joining soon after Independence as a 14 year old, to end up 45 years later Chief of the Indian Navy [1990 to 1993] I have witnessed many transitions in India – from the horrors of partition in 1947 to the very different world of digital connectivity that we see today.

I also write to you as one who was brought up in the Hindu faith. However, the Hinduism I knew and experienced was gentle, inclusive, and filled with extraordinary diversity. My religion taught me values of love and respect for all beings. My brand of Hinduism was not filled with the kind of violence, intolerance represented by the current brand of “Hindutva” that seems to be fanning the flames of division and fear across the country.

Today, as a veteran in my eighties, I am forced to hang my head in shame as I witness a series of incidents and assaults on our fellow citizens, especially minorities and Dalits. Our armed forces which I have had the honour to serve for 45 years, have been an exemplar of India’s secular ethos. Be it in ships and submarines, or in planes and battle formations, we do not discriminate on the basis of caste or religion – we train, we fight, we live, we eat and we die together.

So why are we bearing witness to increasing attacks on minorities across the country, ever since the present government came to power in May 2014? It appears that certain communities are being singled out for special attention – for instance Muslims. Today a Muslim has to prove his or her loyalty, and they are being repeatedly put in a situation where their places of worship are under attack, as indeed their eating habits, and other basic freedoms. The instances of completely unacceptable and unilateral mob behaviour leading to many deaths as well as direct insinuations being made by senior leaders, are too numerous and well known to be repeated.

There seems to be a systematic and well orchestrated attempt to impose a majoritarian single point agenda of creating a Hindu Rashtra in India – led by the RSS and their network of groups, which is disturbing to say the least. This in turn has resulted in a dangerous pattern of mob behaviour including intimidating and lynching people merely on the basis of rumours – in total disregard for the established rule of law. In many cases those responsible for implementing the law, have themselves displayed blatant partisan tendencies and behaviour.

Most shocking of all is the fact there has been no unambiguous condemnation of such actions and behaviour by those at the helm of affairs in the country. Sadly, time and time again, the response of the government seems to indicate an almost studied, but certainly not benign, indifference. The co-ordinated response of those in government seems to be to downplay the serious and vicious nature of these allegations and attacks – by terming them ‘sad’ and ‘unfortunate’ – whereas there should be outrage and a demonstrated will to ensure that this society will not tolerate such behaviour. That there are MPs, Cabinet ministers and elected Chief Ministers who are in the forefront of these comments and actions, leads one to believe that the ruling party and its satellite organisations are working to a plan.

I do not need to point out to the top leadership today, that this is playing with fire in a nation where minorities – especially Muslims and Christians, as also Dalits and adivasis, are already feeling discriminated and marginalised. Instead of treating this amazing diversity as our strength, today we are being seen by the international community as increasingly insular, parochial, intolerant, racist and even fascist. The violence visited upon vulnerable sections reinforces the image of India as an imperfect democracy where all forms of dissent are discouraged and human rights trampled upon with impunity.

The Prime Minister and his ministers in the government are sworn in by the President of India, and they take an oath pledging to uphold the Indian Constitution. Their failure to do so, as evidenced in the foregoing, is a serious matter and does not augur well either for national security or national integrity. The Central and State Governments must act swiftly, unequivocally condemn all such incidents and ensure that justice will be done and the guilty are punished. Such action alone will have a salutary deterrent effect on all those, be they fringe or mainstream, who are speaking and acting in many voices that are totally against and inimical to, our traditional ethos and the syncretic culture of our country and its people.

India represents a unique blend of peoples and cultures which have evolved over 5000 plus years in a constantly changing and dynamic process. This diversity and unique nature of our society and people can probably never be replicated anywhere on this earth – and for this reason alone, the concept of a single religious identity or mono culture represents an insult to this ancient civilisational heritage.

Honourable Mr President, Honourable Mr Prime Minister, you have both sworn to honour the right of every single citizen to freedom of speech, worship, association as brilliantly articulated in the Indian Constitution. As a former serviceman and a veteran, like you, I too have promised to uphold the same constitution. It is our bounden duty that the elected Government of this nation must honour the rights of every citizen of this land as amply spelled out in the Preamble of the Constitution and further elaborated in the Directive Principles of state policy. As Supreme Commander and the Chief Executive – this is what you must ensure and implement by all the powers vested in you by the people of India.

If we do not stem the rot now – it might be too late. Indeed we the people of India look to you to take all steps necessary to restore faith in our democracy and in the promise of bringing dignity, fraternity and equality to each of our citizens.

 L. Ramdas”

I would like to say just one thing to you sir- you gave a perfect example to an ideal officer in the armed forces where the nation comes first and people, always.

Once a soldier, always a soldier!

15 Time Management Hacks Every Defence Aspirant Must Follow

10
defence aspirants

Hello, Warriors! Being in the armed forces is a great matter of pride- both for you and the society you live in. Once a boy/girl transforms into an officer, they become responsible for their fellow under commands. They listen to what the officer says, they follow what you do. Being an officer is not that simple. It isn’t that hard either! Even the mightiest monuments and skyscrapers are made brick by brick. Being consistent and steady works!

ssbinterviewbook

While most of the defence aspirants are in the age group of 18-25, here are some confessions about time management that now successful people want to tell to their twenties helping the present generation not to have any regrets later in life:

IMG 20181208 123753 HDR 01
  1. Know your goals, and organize them by their value and priority. Complete most important tasks first.
  2. Respect your time and make it respected. Set your priorities and start the day.
  3. Learn to say “no”. Say no to anything that bothers you. Say “later” to things that don’t make up for you today and run after it again tomorrow.
  4. Devote your entire focus to whatever you’re doing right now. Find a quiet place to work, or listen to some music. (I enjoy listening to slow and calm music while writing or studying sometimes).
  5. Set up a work routine and stick to it. Your body will adapt to it. Start with short tasks and switch to major one.
  6. Set a value on your time. If you think of each second as a single rupee, you can really value the time around you and you could make the most of it.
  7. Utilize weekends, just a little bit. Don’t waste your holiday by working or studying unless you were doing it for the whole week.
  8. Nothing’s perfect. Just get it done. No one is a perfectionist. Your best in that moment is totally okay.
  9. Get it done in half the time you think you need. If you need 2 hours for preparing your formulae, set a time limit of 1 hour. You’ll end up completing it within the deadline.
  10. It’s never too late to start over. If you weren’t happy with yesterday, try something different today. Don’t stay stuck. Do better.
  11. Turn big goals into small daily tasks. Remember that bricks make a skyscraper?
  12. Enjoyment should always be the goal. There’s no point of doing it if you don’t enjoy it. Work can be play and that makes you different from a machine.
  13. Make a list at the end of each workday that you need to do the first thing tomorrow. Wind up everything at the end of the day and get at least half an hour of “me” time.
  14. And, of course, sleep a LOT! No Compromises with this!
  15. Surround yourself with inspiration and keep visiting ssbcrack.com for the same 😉

9 Things You Need To Know About Kalam Island

0
Abdul Kalam Island

Hello, Warriors! Former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s death in July this year triggered a nationwide outpouring of grief. It is a well-known fact among defence aspirants that Dr. Kalam wanted to join the IAF but can’t make it only because he stood 9th out of available 8 vacancies.

But it didn’t stop Dr. Kalam to move forward in life and he later became the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. ‘The Missile Man of India’, Dr. Kalam has many contributions to his name in the defence sector. To honor these contributions, the government of Odisha, in September this year, renamed the ‘Wheeler Island’- A missile testing site after Dr. Kalam.

Here’s everything you need to know about Kalam Island:

  1. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 4th September renamed Bhadrak district’s Wheeler Island after India’s recently-deceased former President and Missile Man, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  2. The move will encourage the youth to further pursue a scientific temperament. It will be Odisha’s humble homage to the legendary scientist.Abdul Kalam Island
  3. It was during the tenure of then chief minister Biju Patnaik that Wheeler Island was given away to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Kalam’s request for missile testing in 1993.
  4. The Wheeler Island (Now Kalam Island) is located approximately 10 kilometres off the Odisha coast on the Bay of Bengal. The Island, which is about 2 kilometres in length and 390 acres, is considered as country’s most advanced missile testing site.
  5. There was a growing demand across sections of society to rename the island after the former president, who described the island as his ‘Theatre of Action’.
  6. Wheeler Island, located off the coast of Odisha, is used as a missile-testing facility by the union government. The maiden successful test fire of the land-to-land Prithvi Missile was conducted from the mainland and it landed on the then uninhabited Wheeler Island on November 30, 1993.
  7. The island was previously named after an English commandant Lieutenant Wheeler.
  8. The missiles which were launched from the Wheeler Island include Akash, Agni, Astra, BrahMos, Nirbhay, Prahaar, Prithvi, Shaurya and Advanced Air Defence, and Prithvi Air Defence.
  9. Access to the test facility is by ship, as there is no bridge or airport connecting the island to the mainland. There is a small helipad, but missile airframes and all supplies, construction materials and heavy equipment arrive by ship.

Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-2

1
Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-2

Here I want you to remember two things

  • Don’t try to bluff. You are a beginner, but they are masters.
  • An actual experience leaves the long lasting impact on your mind. So try experience of the situations live rather than assuming those situations and making a virtual baseless experience

Sports Activity

Sports mean a lot in a person’s life. They don’t only mean entertainment, but a lot more than it. Whenever this question is raised in SSB, try to point out the group sports that you have played or you have experience of. Individual sports are also good, but it lacks the foundation of team spirit, cooperation, and coordination. Along with this, sports activities show your stamina, decision taking capability at an instance and your concentration towards a point. Group/ sports like football, cricket, volleyball, hockey, etc. which are usually played can be mentioned in the reply. But it’s not the end. You have to get knowledge about it like rules, skills and tricks, team position etc. some commonly asked questions from this section are best/ worst experience in your game, achievement; why did you choose this game or who motivated you to go this way, do you like to continue this game further in your life, why and why not.

Social Activity

Social activities matter a lot. A social person can cope up with different kind of people in life and in the armed forces, you have to tackle different kinds of people at every stage of your life. Here social life and activities mean your contribution in social activities like any social gathering, any social event, your relations with neighbors society and others. These all reflect your cooperation and coordination. You need to mix-up with your society in order to get the real experience of this answer. These can be like playing with society friends, spending time and exchanging thoughts with them, organizing any social activity with them, helping them and taking their help in various activities. So the kind of questions that can arise here are your contribution in social activities, how do you manage with social and personal life, your relation with society members. You can give any experience of organizing any social activity as an example of your organizing quality.Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-2

Friends circle

As per the previous generation, the initial life of a kid is governed by parents and the next stage is governed by the friend circle. A good friend circle is necessary for giving correct direction to person in life. Basic thing a person learns from friend circle are good ideas, cooperation,

Your pros and cons

Everybody as some good and bad things in his personality. Remember nobody is perfect. This question actually needs introspection. You have some bad qualities no matter how minute they are, like biting nails, physical stamina not up to the mark, not good in communication skills, etc. and also stay ready to answer the question that what you are doing to overcome these things. Similarly, your good qualities also need your self-introspection. You are good at decision-making, can handle situations more effectively, physically strong, or have quality of friend making etc. then stay ready for counter questions mainly examples of proving these qualities and counter questions about those examples, from where did you got inculcated these qualities, how these merits helps in your daily life etc.

Basic knowledge about your field (Army / air force)

Interest is somehow related to the knowledge. It is a straight forward question and this question is like a subjective, you need to get knowledge. The questions are either direct or probing. Most of the questions are from the basic structure of armed forces their ranks, latest news and you will be asked about various operations and exercises in are forming.

Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-1

0
Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-1

Don’t make facade over your personality. They are experts in catching fabricated answers. Don’t copy answers from recommended. Those answers suit them and their personality.  Present a “GENUINE YOU” in front of them. Never copy any answer from previously recommended people. These should be a difference between you and a tape recorder.

Questions from your current occupation or your college.

Your current occupation or any source of income is a sure topic of question that can be discussed during SSB interview. What is your work and how do you manage your time for job and family, how is your relations with your colleagues, do you like your job and why / why you don’t like your job.Frequently Asked Questions in SSB (AFCAT and CDS) Part-1

Why do you want to join Indian army / airforce?

It is the most obvious question that is asked by interviewing officer. Everybody has its own reason of joining army/airforce. Be genuine and honest in replying this question. Don’t copy answers from anybody?

Questions regarding your contribution in domestic works

Your contribution in domestic works matters a lot, as an officer has be socially active along with his job. You contribution in home means helping mother in washing clothes, ironing clothes, dusting, preparing food when mother’s health is not well, cleaning home with sibling for Diwali or Holi or other festival etc. You need to introspect yourself and analyze what you actually do daily. Here the obvious questions raised are what is your contribution at home, are you active in giving suggestions in family matters and how, your relation with parents, sibling and other relatives.

Coaching related questions

Sometimes, they find a person trained. So they ask questions about whether you have attended any coaching? Well, coaching is nothing but just a guidance which describes how to appear and perform in various tasks. While some aspirants try to copy the pattern, the guides direct to make the theory and task clears. Remember, DON’T COPY. There is a difference between attending coaching and preparing or getting guidance. Sometimes they asks about have you prepared for the SSB. If yes then how and if no then why not?  Remember, it is a stupidity to appear in exam or interview without preparation. So here you can say that you have prepared for accelerating writing speed for psychology, started physical exercises for GTO, started discussion with friends on current global and national issues. Other similar questions are – are you in favor in attending coaching why and why not, if you accepted that you have attended coaching, then be ready to face counter questions. Freshers become their prey of this situation more than repeaters and others. Reminding Again, Don’t copy

Academics

In this section, several aspirants face the questions related to the decrease in marks during 10th 12th and graduation or increase in marks or fluctuating pattern in marks. Well, everybody has his own reason. Don’t lie. Because lies have no base. Clear you reason in front of them. It’s not a crime to accept your mistakes. But it is bad to neglect the lesson from your failures and repeating them again. After telling your reason behind irregularity in marks, he will ask for you efforts, you did to overcome those problems. You will be asked about your plan and opinion on post-graduation and further studies, your motive in choosing the stream in 11th and graduation, your favorite subject and the subject you don’t like. Remember every subject is a heap of knowledge so no subject is bad. It’s up to your aptitude and performance in that subject. Your best teacher and teacher you don’t like. Again, every teacher is a medium of transmitting knowledge and Mahabharata has compared teacher with god.

But the current status of the deal is still in waiting. The jets are MMRCA (Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft). As per the official deal, 36 jets will cost $8-9 bn. The deal is actually still not completed and is expected to be completed in next 2-3 months. The jets will enhance the Indian air force’s need of multirole aircrafts. This deal came after a long time negotiation with French company Dassault for 126 aircrafts out of which most of them would be manufactured in India. But the deal got transparent when PM Modi visited France and took the deal on the track.

Tejas (LCA) – Homemade Tejas aircrafts are 4+ generation jets which will be inducted into Indian Airforce, as announced by the top brass of the respective department. Single seated, single engine and multirole aircraft is curiously awaited. This aim behind making this kind of aircraft is to reduce the dependency over age old MiG aircrafts are overage and several incidents of their malfunctioning are reported. The aircraft has some shortcomings also like it need more maneuver. Aircraft is expected to be delivered to Indian air force shortly and other versions of the aircraft (trainer, navy and navy trainer) will be launched shortly. PM Narendra Modi suggested to induct Tejas after Government rejected the request to purchase more Rafale to cover the requirements.

Akash – Akash missile system is under construction by Bharat Electronics limited for Indian air force and Indiana army. The system is short range surface to air missile with supersonic capability and range 25 Km. In May, this year, Indian army has inducted first regiment of Akash missile. While Indian air force version is already inducted, Indian army has placed order of 2 Regents of Akash missile with one regiment having two launcher. The missile is strong enough to neutralize any cruise missile or jets in range.

AMCA – This is the name which is rarely heard on news or print media. Proposed by HAL, its full name is Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft. It is the 5th generation aircraft, which is under construction by India. The official designing of this aircraft was kicked off in 2011. It is a 5th generation, stealth integrated, twin engine, single seated jet that will make India more lethal for its enemies. The issue of AMCA was recently raised when the news of induction of Tejas was building fame. Government is planning to focus on AMCA rather than building Tejas MK-II.indian air force upcoming deals and weapons

LCH – Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is taking its light combat aircraft under trails. Recently, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has completed its performance trails. Earlier in June of this year, LCH has cleared its hot weather flight trails in Jodhpur. It is crucial for Indian armed forces as it can exclusively fly at an altitude of 10,000 to 12,000 ft. It can perform wide range of tasks like anti-tank, search and rescue, air defense, etc. It is just a few steps away from its finalization and many eyes are on it.

BRAHMOS– The joint venture missile produced by India and Russia is now a days hanging in air force. Indian Airforce is focusing on installing beyond visual range combat and night vision capabilities in Su-30 in order to make it fit for Brahmos missile, which has range of 300Kms and is lighter then navy’s version. Well, the missile is ready for trails. Here a basic question is usually asked in SSBs related to Brahmos that why the range of Brahmos is caps to 300 even after Russia’s cooperation in production, while India has some other missiles with more range. This is because Russia is a signatory of MTCR and MTCR which restricts its signatories to assist or provide technology to other nation for developing cruise missile with rage more than 300Kms.

These are the main happening which can be asked in AFCAT SSBs. For more information on Current affairs, Keep in touch with SSBCrack.
