Hello Readers, My name is Prashant Tiwari, I am from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh and completed my graduation in B.S.C. (Science) from Kanpur University. My journey began when I decided to write the AFCAT-1 2018 by the grace of almighty god I have cleared it. Then I choose 9 July date for the AFSB. My AFSB interview started on 9th July in 2 AFSB, Mysore. On 9th I reported in Mysore station at 0600 hours from there we are taken to 2-AFSB, Mysore and after brief documentation, we are given chest numbers but I was surprised to know that 254 candidates reported there, but it was a pretty normal affair because previous batch of 242 candidates got washed off. Prepare for your SSB Interview with best books
Then we were taken to the hall where OIR test was conducted, which consists of 2 sets of 40 questions and we have to complete it in 17 minutes for each set. I have completed all before the time and it was very easy.
Screening
Then we are shown a hazy picture of a rural background of 3 characters, I made a decent story on it. We were given 30 seconds to analyze and 4 minutes to write the story. Then we are divided into group of 15 & mine chest number was 63. Then we narrated our stories one by one and I narrate it in just 50 seconds.
My suggestions–
Try to be crisp & short while narrating & also be confident.
Then we started the discussion I take the initiative and decided the characters then also added some points and finally we reach to common story.
Then at 3 pm our result was announced, I was screened in & given chest number 26. Out of 254 only 78 were screened in.
I was allotted a room along with my group which consisted of 9 people including me.
Psychological Tests:-
The same evening we had psych at 06.30 pm. testing started and series of TAT, WAT, SRT & SD were conducted.Try to be simple and plain as possible in your responses includes your daily life incidents and also about your friends in them.
For example –
Clear: – Aseem clears CDS Cut off,
Tease: – Avoid teasing builds up good behavior….etc In SD try to match it with PIQ You will clear the psych easily and testing ended around 9.30 pm.
We were taken for the dinner immediately after that all we slept. It was an amazing and memorable experience.
Next day in the morning we were asked to come for breakfast at 6 am in the morning wearing the respective dresses for the testing of the day we had our GTO that day. It was started with two GDs in both of them I participated actively and all group members were very co- operating, we listened everyone, it was followed by GPE in which I wrote the complete solution firstly by prioritizing the problem, then dividing group into groups & finally we also reach to the common solution. Then came our PGT in which our group completed all the four obstacles within the time given by GTO sir& all members have given ideas.
P.S – Firstly try to use simple ideas in PGT inspite of being complicated, avoid ropes in starting obstacles u can easily complete them with plank and balli. Ropes will be used in 3rd or 4th obstacles. Then snake race was conducted our war cry was “BHARAT MATA KI JAI” we performed well & suggesting that it is a fun task so avoid injuries. Then comes the HGT we were divided into two groups. Both groups completed the HGTs well before in time.
P.S – If u started at the first position then remain at first at the end of group testing exercises if you are at the last remain at the last position with helping hands to others. Then our testing of day 2 ends and we reached our room.
Next day our GTO started with command task and I was called by 3 members as sub-ordinates. In my command task GTO sir was raising the level of task by broking the structures. But I completed it with ease before the given time. I called two sub-ordinates chest no.25 & 27 as both were my good friends and later one of them chest no.24 and 25 gets recommended also. Then came individual obstacle I manage to complete 6 out of 10 obstacles. Avoid injuries in individual obstacles do those tasks only which you can it’s not one task matters it matters whole performance. Then again our group rejoined and we were taken to the FGT task in which we all given good ideas and also completed it in stipulated time. Then our testing of GTO ends & GTO Sir told us SSB is a lifetime experience, you will never forget these memories so just enjoy it & do your best.
Next day, All group members including me have their interviews. So we dress in the formals and reported to the waiting room as I have the interview in the last at 12.30 pm but i had to wait for 1 hour as I was called at 1.30 pm, my interview started and the questions from my all walks of life asked and I answered all of them. He also started with rapid fire questions two times & I answered all of them in a sequence. He asked why to join Air force over Army & Navy. .., do you have back up if you not make to the air Force, I answered all of them & then he started asking some current questions. Which I managed to answer all except 2 or 3 questions. My interview was over at around 2.30 pm, Sir was seen satisfied with my responses. Then I reach my room and then we visited Mysore zoo with my group members and the birthday boy Chinmay (27) we celebrated his birthday and came back to our room and it was a memorable day as we enjoyed much.
Conference day:-
Then came conference day , which is also called D- day and we all were very nervous about the results, we dressed in the formals and reach the testing hall at 8 am morning we group members hug each other and asked everyone of us to be calm. Then conference started everyone was holding and coming back…in 2 minutes. But before my chest no.24 and 25 is there who was made to wait for 15 minutes to go to conference room, then after him I also made to wait for 15 minutes
Mine chest number 26 was called I greeted them he asked questions about my stay and difference between Mysore and Rae Bareli and also to rate out of my performance Then it was over in just 3 minutes .And then at 4 pm DSO Sir came and announced the result …chest no.24,..25…then came 26 (mine) and then 28..tears came into my eyes as I have finally got the success as this was the best moment of my life despite of lots of up and downs in my life and also about my group friends and other members who couldn’t make it as they have also given their best….But our two friends Rohit and Parth make it ,also happy for them .Then we filled lot of forms.
At last I would like to thank my friends especially Aseem, my parents and family members who supported me.
At the end I would like to say…..
“The doors of success are open for those who climb till the end.”
Fight the odds and NEVER GIVE UP in your life.
Reading ssbcrack’s success stories gives me motivation and finally the day came when I got the chance to write my own success story.
My suggestions:-
Psychological Tests are used to bring out your true personality.
Vacha is one of the three elements that forms the basis of SSB evaluation procedure. Vacha means words a candidate speaks. Undoubtedly, the words he speak must match his thought process and his actions. Vacha is the bridge that links a candidates Manasa – the thought process and his Karmana – his deeds. There are many candidates who have revolutionary ideas in their minds but are unable to convey it to others. As a result, they can’t enforce their ideas and neither can they take part in effective group discussion, staying away from influencing the group. Prepare for your SSB Interview with best books
Therefore, it is very important for a candidate to develop good communication skills and know how to present them to his audience. Here are some of the best techniques which a candidate can use to develop effluent communication skills:
Have a good English vocabulary: This is the first and foremost thing. Hindi, matrbhasa and all that BS doesn’t work in real life interviews. Today’s army need to interact with foreign armies and what you think will be the medium of communication for them? Improve your vocabulary by reading newspapers and magazines in daily routine. If you’re not sure of the meaning of a word, don’t use it.
Use new words in sentences: Mere learning new words will not help you unless you learn to use it in sentences. Try to use the word in sentences in your daily life.
Don’t use unnecessary conversation fillers: Conversation fillers are those words which you subconsciously use when you run out of words. Like ‘umm’, ‘ah’, ‘you know’, ‘like’, etc.
Be brief: Be brief in what you are speaking. This means that you provide enough information for the other person to understand what you are trying to say. This is very helpful in lecturette when you have a topic and you have limited time to present it to the audience. According to Lifehacker.com, the acronym of brief is Background, Reason, Information, End, Follow-up. Next time, try this framework in your next lecturette topic – present a background of the topic for first 30 secs, present a reason supporting your views or supporting what’s happening in the next 30 secs, give information about it in the next 1 minute, conclude the topic in the next 30 seconds and finally, revise the topic in the next 30 secs. This is how you can cover up your lecturette in 3 mins sharp and crisp.
Check your body language: Have an open and inviting body language while speaking. Don’t show yourself to be conservative. This means do not cross your legs, do not fold your arms and maintain eye contact while in GD or GPE.
Make eye contact: Whenever you are speaking to an individual, look into their eyes. It shows that you are interested in talking with them.
Know your audience: Know whom are you speaking to. If it is a bunch of kids in a school, you may use hypothesis and stories to make up your conversation. If it is someone of the same age group, you can talk about latest happenings and current affairs. Always try to keep the other person’s perspective in mind when you try to convey your message.
Speak clearly: Be clear in what you want to convey. If people are asking you to repeat yourself after you have said something, try to do a better job of articulating yourself in a better manner.
A good speaker is a good listener first: Any good speaker, in the beginning was a good listener. Listening is an important aspect of good communication and it helps in countering or supporting ones views in GD and GPE.
Maintain a positive attitude: Whole SSB revolves around the positivity of a candidate. And positivity first come in your thoughts and reflects in your actions through your words.
Be Yourself: The moment you start faking yourself is the moment you are no longer you. Don’t try to imitate someone else’s ideas, don’t try to mock someone else’s accent, just be you and go for it.
It’s okay to be nervous: Everyone feels a little nervousness while speaking or delivering something to your audience. Do not take this feeling make you feel that you’ll not perform good. It just means that you are ready to go.
Timing is important: There is a set time for a topic after which your audience starts losing your attention. Ever wondered why TED talks are of less than 20 minutes? Keep time in check.
Organize Your Content: Organizing content is really helpful in lecturette topics when you have only limited time to speak up. As the acronym for delivering your content goes – BRIEF, try to follow the same acronym while preparing your content. Background, Reason, Information, End and Follow-up is the sequence that should be followed.
Think before you speak: Don’t just speak whatever comes to your mind. Think upon it, ponder it and then decide whether to speak it or not.
Learn some new phrases: Learning new phrases will help you in the time when you need some more time to think. Say a relevant phrase in between your talk and allow yourself some more time to think.
Record Yourself: Who is the best judge for you other than yourself? Record yourself giving a speech and improve your speaking skills by analyzing yourself later. Make sure you have not used any fillers like ‘um’ or ‘ah’ and have followed all the above tips. You will be a good speaker in no time. The best practice is to do this in front of a mirror where you can also monitor your gestures and body language.
Practice: Because practice makes man perfect.
Conclusion:

Hello everyone, I am Animesh Sharma and I got recommended from 4 AFSB VARANASI in my first attempt for AFCAT 1 2018 entry. This article will take you through a journey of mine, as how I started dreaming and finally how I got recommended, and also that what I have done, each one of you is capable of doing, BELIEVE ME OR NOT. First of all I would like to give a brief introduction about myself. I did my 12th from Kendriya Vidyalaya Air Force Station, Yelahanka, Bengaluru. I then joined the Merchant Navy through AMET university. I sailed on two ships, as a Deck Cadet on oil tankers and visited nearly 13 countries worldwide. Prepare for your SSB Interview with best books
In spite of having a very handsome package, and opportunities to visit the entire world, I somewhere always wanted to serve my own country. Money can buy a lot, but not everything. I gave NDA after 12th but couldn’t clear the written. After my second ship, I decided to prepare for defence exams, namely CDS and AFCAT. I had quit my job and was at home preparing for exams. Soon AFCAT 2 2017 notification came, and I applied for it. Gave the exam and was so satisfied regarding the results. To my utter surprise, when the results were out, I failed and I got 158/160 (cutoff). It was a disaster for me since that was my last attempt for Flying. I was upset, exhausted, and felt to quit preparing. But as said that if you fall for the 9th time, get up for the 10th one. I started my preparation again for AFCAT 1 2018. Serving the country matters more and not the branch. So I cleared the written and applied for SSB (Admin branch).
SSBCRACK has such a huge amount of articles, write-ups, and materials to read that I believe is a world in itself. I read many articles. Regarding English, maths, military aptitude etc which helped a lot for my written exam. I was a fresher for SSB and had a million doubts. The first approach to clear my doubts was SSBCRACK. I read various articles they updated, procedures, myths about ssb, what is expected etc.
The written and SSB preparation also included Speed tests, revision of previous years papers, studying current Affairs as provided by SSBCRACK and having a healthy discussion in my friends.
I reported on Varanasi station well on time. Approx 250 candidates had reported, and my confidence went low after seeing such a large amount. They were all so well dressed like gentleman, and was in sandles, jeans and tshirt. The attire din matter and I got screened in with other 66 candidates. The next 4 four days have given me leassons, and many memories to keep which I ll never forget. Finally, 2 of us got recommended.
Friends, I completely understand the passing rate of SSB, I understand hundreds of them report, I also understand that many of us might be repeaters. But one thing we all must understand that WE CAN DO IT. I was also just a normal candidate like all of us, but I had never let that confidence go down after I got screened in. Please trust yourself, trust your guts, trust your preparations, and trust the blessings you have with yourself. I can assure you you will get it.
The most important thing I believe to clear an SSB is to think that you are already an officer. Your thoughts affect your actions gentlemen and ladies. So please keep wise thoughts. There will be at times some difficulties, you may not do good in some tests, but keep in mind that, it dosent matter at all. What matters is your overall performance. Keep yourself on high confidence mode. Make good relations in SSB with others not just for own benefits, but because you learn from each one of them.
Well, I wont take much time of yours. A great thanks to SSBCRACK, I strongly recommend every defence aspirant to go through their articles and study materials. All the best to each one of you for your future SSB. Please be confident and calm. Trust Yourself and you will do it. (BELIEVE IT OR NOT).

“I WANT TO STAND IN FRONT OF THE FLAGS WITH A PLUS SIGN ON MY CHEST NUMBER AND SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT ON MY FACE” this is what I used to tell my sister. And on 8th Aug 2018 this dream came true when I was standing in front of the flags inside the candidate’s lines of 11SSB Allahabad. Prepare for your SSB Interview with best books
Hello, my name is Aman Pandey. Here is my SSB recommendation experience. Rejection center they said, but I always wanted to get selected from this rejection center. A big smile came across when I received the call letter for my IMA-146 SSB at Allahabad. So we reported there on 3rdAug 2018 at the center and after all the documentation we rested in the candidate’s lines. On the next day, testing started. I did all the questions from OIRT. In PP&DT I wrote a story and gave a good narration. GD started but as always fish market got created. Kept my calm and tried giving points in the GD. Got screened in. Out of 69 candidates reported, 26 got screened in. I was chest number 16 now.
On day 2 the psychology testing started. I finished my 12 TAT stories, missed few words in WAT. I solved 51 SRTs and wrote the complete SD. Now comes the time of GTO. Started with GD in which I couldn’t speak that much as I did not have a good hold of the topic which was given to us. I spoke well in the second GD. After that in GPE we were given the tasks which we successfully solved by making a good plan. Everyone contributed in the GPE and it was a good discussion. By the time of Group Obstacle Race(GOR) I was feeling very hungry. But when the GOR started my hunger for food vanished away. By shouting our war cry we were ferociously completing the tasks. Just then our energy level went down and all of us stopped shouting our war cry. Suddenly some ghost came into my body and all of sudden I shouted the war cry while looking at our group VANDE!!!! Then everyone responded MATARAM! Now everyone was pumped up again and we did all the tasks successfully.
Then we completed our subsequent GTO tasks. I gave fair number of ideas in PGT,HGT,FGT. Then we completed our Individual Obstacles, I did 12. Command task was good. It was based on disposing of a bomb. I did it successfully through 3 approaches. Then came my interview. All sort of personal questions were asked including family, friends, teachers, myself . In between these questions, a question was asked for which I was waiting since many days and that was
IO: “which regiment would you like to join?”
Me: GORKHA!
IO: Why?
Me: I am very much impressed by their war cry i.e. “JAI MAHAKALI, AAYO GORKHALI!”
He asked several questions and the interview went on for around 40 mins.
Now came the conference. One thought which was coming into my mind a day before conference “This one day can change anyone’s life!” Dressed nicely we all went to the waiting room, waiting for our turns.
The conference started and 24 candidate’s conference was over. Now the candidate before me has got out of the conference room. I was eagerly waiting to go in. I was singing songs meanwhile. After waiting for around 10-15 mins chest number 16 flashed on the screen. I stood up and went to the hall heads up! I was thrilled by watching so many officers together interacting with me.
I was asked SRT. Suppose you are going to give an exam, you are at the railway station, your train is about to leave in 20mins and then you realized that you have forgotten all your items including admit card, ticket, wallet, mobile, everything at home. What will you do? I answered it but he kept on asking me further questions by increasing the difficulty level. Keeping my calm I answered them all and came out.
Now came the result time! After the same formalities of motivating everyone in the batch, the officer announced the result. I will announce the chest number, you’ll shout your name, roll number and come and stand at my right side. Without creating even a little bit of suspense he said “CHEST NUMBER 16!”. In excitement I forgot my roll number but somehow I told him my name and roll no. the officer congratulated me by shaking hands.
All my fellow candidates congratulated me and hugged me. I was happy for my achievement and sad that I was the only one who got recommended because there were many good candidates in my batch. We had a lot of fun in the candidate’s lines. I am sure by reading this line few of them would have got what I mean by “fun” here. 😉 After the medicals, I am declared medically fit. Now waiting to join the Indian Military Academy.
What I experienced the main factor for getting recommended is common sense. If your behavior at candidate lines = testing ground = home then you will sail through. What we try to do at SSB is to show ourselves better, but that is not required. “bhai mai to aisa hi hu..tumne lena h to le lo..nhi to jane do..”
