RECOMMENDED FOR INDIAN ARMY SSC TECH

Anirudh G Rao, AIR-1, Production Engineering, SSC(Tech). Right since I was a 6-year-old child, anytime anybody asked what I wanted to do when I grow up, I always said ‘Pilot in the Indian Air Force’. I have been to every Aero India Show in Bangalore since its inception in 1996. 16 years down the line, I was very proud of myself for sticking to the same goal and everything I have done was keeping that one dream in my head. My mother motivated me to join the NCC in school as she was a cadet herself. I, unfortunately, did not make it through the selection then. Much later when I started Engineering, I joined the Air Wing NCC in Bangalore and My God, what an experience it has been! I got to fly, I happened to represent Karnataka and Goa at the Republic day camp winning a bronze medal, All India Best Cadet. I also incidentally happened to represent India in a Youth Exchange Programme in Singapore.

I have also been extremely fortunate to have been able to continue my association with the NCC through the Exchange Participants Association(EXPA) going around as a personality development trainer for NCC Cadets in all corners of the country, since 3 years now! Wait, how did I manage college in the middle of all of this you may ask? Well, I was blessed to get a chance to study at RV College of Engineering, The Best college in Karnataka. I can vouch for it being the best because the amount of opportunities, support and exposure the college and all the staff gave me throughout is insurmountable. College made me a big star in its own regard but helped keep me completely focused and glued to my passion along with keeping me grounded to my roots. I also have friends who’ve always been amazing people to be around. My first appearance at an SSB was at 2 AFSB Mysore for the Air Force flying branch. Unfortunately, I did not get recommended then.SSB Interview AIR 1 SSC Tech

However, my entire experience there helped me become more self aware and learnt a lot about myself. 6 months later, I walked into 22 SSB Bhopal with an open mind and got recommended. And now, having secured All India Rank-1 for Production Engineering stream in SSC(Tech) course, I look forward to joining and doing well in the Academy. SSBCrack has invariably become a bible for all defence aspirants and rightly so. The material that is available helps a lot and also provides a lot of motivation for all the aspirants. I’m personally super excited to become the first Fauji from my family! ‘Perseverance always helps’, someone said and I’ve seen it come true. What is life if there are no challenges? Let us overcome each one of them and become better a version of ourselves. Good Luck to Everybody.SSB Interview AIR 1

20 Tips To Get Noticed in SSB Group Discussions

0
20 TIPS TO GET NOTICED IN SSB GROUP DISCUSSIONS

‘PLAN YOUR CASTLE IN THE AIR AND THEN BUILD A SHIP THAT CAN TAKE YOU THERE…’ Group discussions have now become sine qua non of every selection procedure. A group discussion is conducted to examine various leadership skills such as communication, rational, analytical, interpersonal, etc.

A group discussion in SSB is conducted as a part of the PPDT test as well as a part of GTO tasks. And therefore, it is very important to perform your best in it. To ensure your presence in GD, initiating it successfully is the first and most direct chance for a candidate to bring out several traits such as preparedness, initiative, and leadership, and impress upon the group the plan and direction of the discussion to follow.
SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

The success mantra in any Group discussion is simple- Read, learn and share with others. This is how you start developing and enhancing your strong opinions. People say that reading is very important, but they forget that reading gives ‘repository of ideas’ and you form your viewpoints only when you share with others.
So what are those tips that make you noticeable in a group discussion? You may get a lot of Do’s and Don’t’s for a group discussion but the most fundamental and crucial techniques for getting noticed are Initiating, Leading and Concluding a GD. Now let’s discuss how?

  • Initiate the GD
  1. By beginning a Group Discussion, you not only grab the opportunity to speak but also you grip everybody’s attention.
  2. By starting a GD, you will get maximum uninterrupted and continuous time to put forward your views, ideas and skills to the assessor as other members are still busy in understanding the topic.
  3. Try to make an impression through your content and communication and presentation skills while beginning a GD. Start only if you have properly understood the topic and have some knowledge about it.
  4. Try to give right direction to a GD by giving logical points.
  5. Start a GD by giving a quote, definition, question, facts, figures and statistics, shocking statement, short story or general statement.
  • If you have not started the GD, don’t lose heart. You can still enter the GD and make your presence felt.
  • Enter the GD midway
    1. Identify a way to enter a Group Discussion, as every GD has its highs and lows. Try to enter a GD during low times.
    3. Try to enter the GD after a member has made his/her point but do not take much time.
4.Try to enter by making a supportive or acknowledging statement in favour of the last point made as other members will think you are favouring them and they will let you speak. It takes great talent to speak sense continuously and hold everyone’s attention. Once you have made a breakthrough in the GD, try to drive the discussion towards a goal or some sort of conclusion.

Lead and carry on the GD

  1. Try to bring and incorporate new ideas in the GD.
  2. You can creatively modify ideas presented by others and develop them during the GD.
  3. Try to obtain support from other members of the Group Discussion through your body language, eye contact and oral etiquette.
  4. Find out if the Group Discussion is on track or not. If the GD is going off track, try to bring it back on the topic. Take the initiative.
  • This is your last chance to seize attention. Concluding the GD is as important as the beginning as it showcases your potential to assimilate and assess before drawing an inference, which is a key requirement of a successful manager.
  • Conclude the GD
    1. Summarise all points discussed in the GD in a nutshell.
    2. While concluding, avoid raising new points.
    3. Do not emphasise on your individual viewpoints only while summarising the GD.
    4. Keep the conclusion concise and to the point. While summarising, include all important points that developed during the group discussion.
    5. If one member has inferred the Group Discussion, do not contradict unless the conclusion has flaws or you have some essential point to add in it.
Roles you can play in a GD to get noticed:
    1. Initiator – Starting a GD, giving definitions and suggesting and introducing new ideas and approaches.
    2. Information seeker – In the GD, gather and solicit information from others.
    3. Information giver – During GD share information and facts.
    4. Procedure facilitator – Lead the GD by keeping track of the discussion.
    5. Opinion seeker – Ask other members of the GD for their opinion.
    6. Opinion giver – Giving your opinions and views in the GD on the statement or argument given by the other members.
    7. Clarifier – Clarifying all the ideas and opinions discussed during the GD.
    8. Social Supporter – Giving support to ideas of all members of the GD.
    9. Tension Reliever – Presenting and discussing the problem from a broad and unbiased perspective.
    10. Energizer – Encouraging other members to explore some new ideas and notions during the GD.
    11. Compromiser – Creating harmony between different opinions by giving a compromising solution.
    12. Gatekeeper – Involving other members in the GD by asking for their opinion.
    13. Summarizer – Summarising or concluding the GD by including all important points discussed.

De Novo SSB Selection System Put On Hold

De Novo SSB Selection System Put On Hold

On 29th August 2018 it was reported by the Tribune India that the new SSB interview procedure, which is a 3 days SSB interview procedure also known as De Nova SSB Interview procedure will be put on hold by the officials and the implementation of the same may take more time based on the improvements required and feedback collected during trial of the De Nova at SSB Bangalore and SSB Bhopal.
SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

Many candidates are asking us regarding the De Nova SSB interview and they are worried about the new system as they are not aware of the tests they are going to face in De Nova. We already suggested many aspirants that the De Nova SSB interview procedure may take some time and till then we are good with the current 5 days SSB interview procedure.

Also Read : 9 Things You Need To Know About New 3 Day SSB Interview Procedure

Below is the report published onTribune India regarding the De Nova SSB interview:

The armed forces have reportedly decided to put on hold the implementation of a new procedure developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to select officers.

The De Novo Selection Procedure was envisioned to be implemented by all Services Selection Boards (SSBs) in 2019. Besides introducing some changes, tests and evaluating methodology, it was designed to reduce the period of stay at selection centres from five to three days by making the initial screening and intelligence tests online, thus cutting down the expenditure.De Novo SSB Selection System Put On Hold

“Almost half the candidates do not get through the initial screening on the first two days and are sent back. If the screening was done online or from near the candidate’s home, it would save the cost of travel and stay,” an officer associated with an SSB said.

Sources associated with the selection process said some reservations have been expressed about the online testing procedures as well as the changes made in the procedures for a candidate’s psychological evaluation and personality assessment under the new system. “The procedure has been undergoing trials in parallel with the old system and some suggestions and recommendations have been put up for incorporating some modifications,” he said.

In addition to the intelligence tests, the selection process for officer candidates, which is primarily an assessment of their personality and leadership qualities, comprises three elements: psychological tests, group tasks and personal interview. The results of all three elements, conducted independently, are then compared to arrive at a final decision whether a person is fit to become an officer.

Some portions of the psychological tests and group tasks were done away with or modified by the De Novo system.

Given the unique operating environment in the forces, the entire process is designed to assess how an individual performs under pressure in stressful, difficult or unusual situations and how capable he is to motivate his comrades in trying conditions.

Conclusion:

  • The current SSB interview procedure will remain the same.
  • Candidates going to face SSB must focus on the present SSB selection system.
  • Once the De Nova is out, it will be announced officially, so candidates must not worry about it now.
