Indian Air Force Officer Run Over By Former MLA's Son In Kolkata

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Corporal was run over and killed allegedly by a 26-year-old son of a former MLA in Kolkata on Wednesday morning. Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud (21) was the drill instructor of the IAF contingent that will participate in the Republic Day parade in Kolkata this year.

He was participating in a rehearsal around 6.30 am on Wednesday morning when a white Audi Q7 SUV tore through the security cordon laid around Red Road by Kolkata Police and knocked him down. The Corporal was rushed to the Eastern Command Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The nearly Rs 76 lakh SUV was purchased recently in the name of Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd of 16, Burman Street in north Kolkata. It is suspected that the vehicle was being driven by Ambia Sohrab, son of Md Sohrab who happens to be the president of the Fruit Merchants’ Association in Kolkata. Md Sohrab was also an Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA till 2011. The incident has sent shock waves to security agencies who consider it was a major security breach.Indian Air Force Officer Run Over By Former MLA's Son In Kolkata
“The Audi came at a high speed, knocked down the Corporal and then sped away. It then swerved and smashed into a barricade. The driver got off and escaped before security personnel could reach the spot where the SUV collided with the barricade. The vehicle managed to breach three rings of security around Red Road. It could have been an explosive-laden vehicle. We have taken up the matter with the police who are in charge of security during the parade rehearsal,” a senior defence ministry official said.

Kolkata Police commissioner Surojit Kar Purakayastha reached the spot to inspect the damage. “It seems that there was only one occupant in the vehicle. He managed to escape but we are going though CCTV footage to identify him. We are also inquiring how the vehicle managed to breach the security cordon around Red Road,” Purakayastha said from the spot.

13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

0
13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” – Buddha.

We are shaped by our thoughts. How we think, perceive and believe all influences how we adjust and function in our environment. We all know that psychology has an integral role to play in the SSB interview. The agenda of the interview is to determine whether the candidate possesses the Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). This is done by means of a purposive or directed conversation between the candidate and the Interviewing Officer (IO). Not only is the current personality evaluated but the training potential of the candidate is also assessed.

In order to excel in the interview, the candidate needs to be in touch with his/her own personality and of their surroundings. The following psychological life hacks will help you in performing better in the SSB interview.

Cognitive reframing
It is a psychological technique used to identify negative thoughts, and reframing those thoughts into more positive challenges. Before your interview starts, instead of thinking it to be a threat, perceive it as a challenge which you have to overcome. You’ll be likely to perform better and efficiently.

You are in control of your emotions, and thoughts.
Tell yourself you’re happy or you’re excited. Eventually your brain will end up believing it. Saying that you’re depressed or you’re feeling anxious will make you all the more depressed and anxious.

Your attitude is everything.
Learn how to deal with stress without changing your behaviour. It’s not always possible to answer all questions in the correct manner. Don’t lose your cool and don’t be demoralised if the interview isn’t going the way you wanted it to. Just go with the flow and give it your best shot.

Maintain proper eye contact.
In a research it was found that 67% of interviewees fail to maintain adequate eye contact. Maintaining proper eye contact is essential since it shows that you are confident. A candidate who looks straight in the interviewer’s eye will be appraised as more confident than a candidate who looks at the floor or at the ceiling and avoids eye contact. But don’t stare or gaze hard at the IO. Look at their eyes long enough to notice what colour they are.

Chewing gum before the interview
Researchers from St. Lawrence University found that gum-chewing benefits working memory, episodic memory and general information-processing speed. The chewing motion makes it easier to focus and concentrate. Chewing some gum before the interview may help you focus, remember important information and it helps to combat the stress and nervousness. Don’t forget to spit the gum out before entering the interview room!

Download:

Smile!
While entering the room, greeting the IO, thanking him or listening to him, keep your smile on. Smiling from time to time (wherever appropriate) makes you feel more relaxed and cheerful. Smiling indicates that you are cheerful and connect with people easily.

Posture
Stand up straight, avoid slouching, keep your hands out of pockets, and head held up high. It’s not just a cliché — you literally feel better.

Dress smartly.
If your clothes create an initial unfavourable impression, you’ll have trouble neutralising it during the interview. If you look good, you feel good; and if you feel good, you’ll do well.

Etiquettes.
Manners and courtesy help in tilting the direction of the interview in your favour. Before entering the room, gently knock on the door. You can politely ask if you can come in- enter only when you are asked to, with confidence. Wish those present as per the time of the day. Wait till you are asked to sit and thank the person who asks you to sit down. While answering questions, be respectful and say ‘sir’, however excessive use of the word ‘sir’ must be avoided.

Believe in yourself.
The interview revolved around you; therefore, it is you and your performance that matters. Keep telling yourself that you have ‘it’ in you and believe in it. Don’t be nervous and don’t get intimated by the personality and the aura of the IO.

Express your emotions.
Use your emotions to allow the IO to have a better understanding of yourself. Describe your feelings as and when appropriate. Avoid extreme emotions such as anger, sentiments, etc. Use your body language as a part of your emotional expression. Avoid giving political opinions. Remember, armed forces are always apolitical and above board.13 Psychological Life Hacks To Clear The Interview

Be truthful
Credibility, once lost is hard to regain. You want to portray yourself as morally trustworthy since your reputation is at stake. Be respectful towards the other person with whom you’re speaking and be sensitive towards others’ feelings.

Positive thinking.
Having a positive mindset is vital. Positive thinking helps in combating negative thoughts, it elevates one’s mood and it helps us to focus on the bright side of life. It motivates us towards success. Being optimistic in the face of challenges is a positive trait that will help a candidate in the interview.

While you are waiting for your interview to start, keep these tips in mind as they will help you combat stress and anxiety.

6 Common Mistakes Done In Psychology

6 Common Mistakes Done In Psychology

Psychology is the thing where many aspirants get trapped. Practice, gaining social experience and a bit mind acceleration can make the task easier. Psychology is all about describing yourself over pages drawing your character and personality with your own hand. The outcomes are in your hand. It’s you who decide your selection, not the SSB panel. Candidates make some silly mistakes while attempting the psychology test what reduces their chances of selection.

  1. Handwriting not up to the mark – Psychology never completely depends on handwriting. But it partially does. A readable handwriting is required during this part of the tests. Good ideas scripted in worst letters evaluates personality traits. Candidates must practice for improving handwriting to a level where the reader can grab the idea that the candidate wants to convey.
  2. Copied Ideas – A trend is in fission that candidates get stick to the experiences of other repeaters and recommended candidates copying their ideas. What if psychologist gets the same response of a problem from many people? It results in the partial disqualification. Don’t copy; rather frame your own ideas and perception. A genuine one is always selected in SSB.
  3. Violating Rules – Rules matter a lot during SSB schedule. One must stick to them in order to flow in streamline as expected by the SSB selection panel. Some common rules violated by the candidates are writing after officer announces to stop writing, writing on the place in sheet where writing is prohibited.
  4. Focus on Quantity – Generally candidates have a race and competition for the number of WAT and SRT attempted. Don’t get into the blind race of quantity. Whatever you do, do with your best. If you have done 35-45 SRTs and 50-55 WAT in good, proper and required form, then it is sufficient for your selection and if someone claims to have attempted 60 SRTs and 60 WATs, then he would have done those with a quality less manner or is bluffing to demoralize other candidates.6 Common Mistakes Done In Psychology
  5. Mind Your Sequence – Keep your mind clear and open. Major problem with WAT is the candidates miss the sequence of words leading to confusion. The Candidates must focus on word grab the related idea. Paying attention to the screen and beep can avoid the occurrence of this problem. Skipping any word in the sequence is not a problem, but changing sequence due to it can cause a problem.
  6. Neglecting the Mainstream – It happens many times that candidates neglect the minor thing in TAT and in SRTs. Candidates make stories that are either irrelevant or does not include all the things provided or shown. For TAT sufficient time is given for every observing every picture. Still, candidates waste it by starting writing in it rather than observing the picture and framing a good and effective story. Similarly, candidates skip some minor things in SRTs in the fight against time that leads to an incomplete response of the candidates. Candidates are advised to observe the picture carefully and read the SRT thoroughly to get the perfect image of what is being asked and what the picture is conveying.

Conclusion

Candidates must focus on these points and eradicate these mistakes. Practice, preparation and punctuality (time effected responses) must be taken into consideration to get the perfect outline of an officer on the sheet of psychology.

I Got Recommended For Indian Navy From Naval Selection Board, Visakhapatnam

I Got Recommended For Indian Navy From Naval Selection Board, Visakhapatnam

Hello, Friends! I am Ajit Sharma from Pune, Maharashtra. I got recommended for Indian Navy from Naval Selection Board, Visakhapatnam through SSC Executive (GS/X) entry in my 6th attempt. Seeing my father in uniform since childhood I was always keen to join the armed forces as an officer. After completing my B.Tech in 2013, I gave my first SSB interview for Indian Army. On 3rd August 2013 when I got screened in I saw few candidates with plus sign on their chest numbers, one of my friends told me they are recommended candidates and are undergoing medicals. That very moment I decided that I will also experience this no matter what it takes me to achieve it. On 7th August I got conferenced out which challenged that zeal in me. Since the college gave such a good experience in terms of management so I decided to prepare for MBA exams and SSB as well.

Download:

After appearing in my MBA exams, I gave my second SSB attempt for Indian Army on 31st Dec 2014 and got conferenced out again (had prayed jo bhi ho bhagwan plz screen in to ho jau train me new year ni krna celebrate). I was then sure that something is definitely going wrong because of which I am not able to clear the last hurdle. Soon then the results of MBA exams were announced, even after securing 70 percentile in CAT (which were not enough), 97 percentile in MAH CET and converting Prin L.N Welingkar college, I was still in a fix whether to take admission and start MBA or to keep giving SSB interviews.

Then I decided that I will give SSB interviews and will prepare even better than before. I thought psychology is what I need to improve and sites like ssbcrack.com helped me a lot in it. But some more surprises were yet to come, as I got screened out in my 3rd attempt for Indian Army and conferenced out in my 4th attempt for Indian Navy. Truly speaking these 4 attempts raised so many questions, the answers of which I couldn’t find. I met some retired officers who said you must get through but the ssb interview results used to leave a question mark.

I searched few SSB coaching academy’s in Pune, as I had decided to teach maths for AFCAT to earn and prepare for ssb as well. I saw the name Gurudeva’s SSB academy ( thanks to google for this) and spoke to Col R.K Sinha sir. He took a short interview and the moment he got to know that I was giving SSB’s as well he asked all about it. The day then I joined Gurudeva’s academy I found answers of all those questions which used to trouble me a lot. A very humble, hard working, candid and diligent person, Col R K Sinha guided me so well that right from day1 I realized that I have taken the first step correct towards my SSB by joining this academy. Every single thing right from “why is it so important to fill PIQ form correctly” to “what you must avoid speaking in the interview” was told so perfectly that I got the self-confidence back that yes I can still make it.

I gave my 5th attempt for Indian Army in November 2015 and got screened out from Bhopal. I got back to Sir, he told me where I went wrong and definitely he didn’t let me lose that self-confidence which he and his staff only had brought in me. Then I gave my 6th attempt for Indian Navy. The reporting was at 6 AM on 17th November 2015 at Visakhapatnam. There were 30 of us who got screened in. I spoke to Sir the day I gave my interview (as I was a bit low) and he told me over the phone “Ajit life never ends like this, you have to be a fighter and there is still a lot ahead in your life, don’t loose hope don’t give up, just bounce back with more confidence” ( certainly his words brought so much of confidence). I did well in GTO and the day before the conference Sir told me “You are making it this time Ajit” and his words gave me goosebumps.I Got Recommended For Indian Navy From Naval Selection Board, Visakhapatnam

The judgment day “conference”- on 21st November

I was asked a few questions like how do you make friends, how many friends you made here, tell us the names and chest numbers of at least 5 of them. I gave answers of the questions and was happy (though I was worried as well deep inside about the results but stayed calm) Soon after few hours an Officer in crisp white uniform walked in and announced that they have recommended 4 candidates. They announced the first chest number which was “8”. The second chest number they announced and it was mine “15”(that moment just can’t be defined in words). I just didn’t move for a fraction of second, then stood up told my name and ran out of the room. I had tears in my eyes for obvious reasons and I wanted to just hug all those whosoever had helped me to live this moment. Soon we got new chest numbers and mine was Chest Number 2 (unme plus sign nhi tha). I gave my medicals and got unfit in MLT test. On 5th Jan 2016 I went for review which I had appealed for and I was declared fit. I am enjoying this moment and waiting for the merit list.

P.S – Still striving for that plus sign 😛

Best of luck to all defence aspirants and I wish you all also get the plus sign soon.

5 Simple Rules To Write Better Response In SRT

0
5 Simple Rules To Write Better Response In SRT

With the commencement of the year, we are here with some simple ways and rule to give a better and effective response to SRTs. Whenever a candidate appearing for psychological tests, the time and problems are framed in such a way that candidates rarely get time to remember the way or instruction or the minor thing that a candidate must follow. So we are here with a dose of some rules that can be inculcated easily by the candidates and will help them to attempt SRTs dispersing positive effect over psychologists.

spot_img

Answer them like a daily life response

Situation reaction test, as the name signifies, is a test to check the response of a candidate toward a given situation. Sometimes candidates misinterpret it perceiving it like a test of just giving a workable response. Remember armed forces never recruit a bluff. Respond in your way, perceiving yourself in the situation and writing your response. Let’s clarify it, using a normal SRT. He was getting late for college when he saw 2 men on bike snatching the golden chain of a woman throwing her away on the footpath and ran away. He….

Here most of the people wouldn’t perceive that the lady is hurt and life must be given top priority always and as mentioned the bikers ran away. So your response should be; noted down the number of bikes, gave first aid to lady if required, reported to the nearest traffic police office and reached college.

Download

Keep response short and simple

5 Simple Rules To Write Better Response In SRT

The response you have written must be short, simple and in a readable font. It is not a test of vocabulary or grammar. You have to write responses as short as possible in a meaning full way. Means the reader can easily get what you want to convey. Excessive writing and emphasizing on writing style will consume time and will misbalance your coordination.

Remember OLQs while responding to SRTs

A candidate must remember OLQs while responding SRTs. Responsibility, planning and improvisation, initiative and decision making are the most OLQs used in SRTs. While stamina, liveliness and others are used in some special and rare cases.

Focus on quality rather than quantity

The entire SSB schedule is based on the qualities that a candidate possesses nit the quantity that a candidate displays. From psychology to GTO, it never matters how many SRTs you have attempted, what actually matters is the quality of SRT responses. But it doesn’t mean that you give more time on each SRT to give a perfect response. There is a limited time to attempt SRTs. So candidates are required to manage time and not to be careless while attempting SRTs.

Don’t copy responses

It is a trend among SSB aspirants that whenever a candidate finds a good answer from any other aspirant, he adopts it without accessing its compatibility with his personality. Different responses suites different peoples and If someone copies the responses, it leads their traits to differ from your actual personality. So avoid copying and be yourself while responding to the problems.
