Hard work always pays.
I, Simranjeet Singh, a student of final year engineering have been a die hard fan of joining esteemed Indian Armed Forces. My only goal was to join the defence forces.I was about to appear for SSB after a long gap of 3 years. Previously I appeared for ssb in NDA(2 times) & TES(1 time) entry.& was conferenced out every time. I thought there was really something missing in me.I started doing introspection & analysed myself. I also joined SSB training Bhilai academy of Retd.Commander Ravikant Soni which was very useful for me.
Here was I in Allahabad for UES-ARMY for my 4th time, but to my surprise I was screened out. I was really shattered.I then considered to be a bad luck & moved on.
Then came my 5th attempt on 23 Jan for UES-NAVY & again I was standing in a SSB(NSB VISAKHAPATNAM).205 people reported ,chest numbers were allotted & I got chest no. 10 & then started the long screening procedure along with distribution of TA to freshers.37 repeaters were there in total & rest freshers.

DAY 1-
Screening procedure started with 2 OIR tests having 50 questions each. They were too easy & I was able to solve them all before time.(A tip for all- Don’t take unduly stress if you don’t fare well in OIR tests. Just focus on the next test as the next test is which has more weight age.)
Then PPDT it was.
We’re shown a blur picture & I wrote a +ve story on it.Buckle up friends, the fish market was just about to open.
Yes discussion on the story it was.
We were divided into 12 members each group.
Our discussion started according to the trend, yes like a fish market. But soon the offer divided us into 2 groups & then the discussion went well & our group was able to conclude.
Finally, after a long wait of 4 hours, our results came & 40 people were screened in.
I got chest no. 9
We were then made to fill some forms including the important PIQ form(one tip friends-don’t take PIQ form as to be a simple form as it reveals what you are.Fill the form in neat legible handwriting with true details as these forms go to all 3 assessors & you’ll be questioned on the basis of these forms)
Rooms were allotted & we got double Decker beds + a lot of bed bugs.
But the night went easy after a long chat with newly made friends.
DAY 2-
Psychology tests were conducted.
Here is what I done -I decided to be +ve in all the tests whatever the situation might be.
Tip for all- Write +ve stories displaying your officer like qualities.Don’t go with pre-prepared stories, just write according to what picture shows.
Try to be as much as possible in WAT & show your qualities in the sentences.
In SRT write full reactions by putting yourself in the situation & writing your response according to that.
For SELF DESCRIPTION test go prepared & write that which matches with what you’ve written in PIQ.
My tests went well & I wrote +ve reactions.
Few people had their interviews & rest were allowed to visit the city.
We went to the RK beach, visited INS Kursura museum (the only of its kind in ASIA) & called our homes.
DAY 3
It was the GTO day.
Our GTO was a jolly guy with always a smile on his face & a joke on his lips.
Our group discussion went well.(Tip-Give good valid points & try to be a good listener as well.Give other chances to speak & maintain the decorum of the discussion)
Next was group planning exercise & we did well in that. Our group was able to solve the problem & reached a final solution.
Next was PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK.
It was just a game of our brains.
In every obstacle I gave good ideas & implemented others ideas too.
(Tip-try to be as cooperative as possible & take the group along with you.
We completed the task in time.
Our GTO was continuously picking us by commenting that we lacked common sense.
Same happened in HALF GROUP TASK.
Next was SNAKE RACE. We decided that I will push others who can’t climb wall & then climb myself.
Finally we won only because of coordination & helping each other.
Usually the days ends with SNAKE RACE but our GTO needed more action & we were taken for INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLE RACE.
We were already panting like dogs after the race.
The IO race started & I was able to perform 7 obstacles only as I was very much exhausted.
(Tip-try to have firm grip in rope obstacles as a petty mistake might hurt you badly.)
After the race we all were like breathless lads gasping for air.
Few people got injured too.
To our relief our tasks ended & we were allowed to visit the city again.
DAY 4-
Rest of the GTO tasks were scheduled for today.
1st was the command task & mine was really a grueling one. While doing it ,GTO kept on firing me with questions & comments along with. Finally I was able to complete it.
The tasks ended with FINAL GROUP TASK which was an exact replica of PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK.
I was called for interview immediately after the task that too on my GTO dress.

INTERVIEW-
INTERVIEW started formally. But soon I was grilled to the core about my knowledge about INDIAN NAVY.
I was questioned about my previous attempts & answered all the questions honestly.Tip here is to answer the questions with a cool & calm mind by giving only that much of information which has been asked for.My interview lasted only for about 40 mins.
DAY 5 (D DAY-CONFERENCE)
The heartbeats were above the normal.
It was republic day & we were like that I could be the most memorable day of our life-Being recommended on 26th January.
The conference started soon & we were called in the hall.
There was a long wait before my entrance into the hall. Then I was called in.I was asked routine questions about food, city, accommodation etc.
Then I was asked to describe my city’s visit experience in 5 lines, which I did.
Soon within 2 hours conference was over of our batch.
After 2 hours the officer in crisp white uniform came & gave the motivational address.
Our heartbeats our high.
It was really tense. Then he started calling out the chest numbers of recommended candidates.
The 1st chest no. he called was 9.Yes yes yes.
It was me.Finally I made it.
In succession 3 more nos. were called.
Altogether 4 people were recommended.I was the only one recommended from my group.I was happy like hell but was also sad that many of my friends were about to leave. We were not even allowed to meet them.Soon we were made to fill a lot of forms which took hours.I chose to appear for medicals later.
In short I’d like to conclude with a line that –
Setting a goal, dreaming about it & working for it finally reaps results.
Good bye friends.
Hoping of joining INA after clearing medicals & merit list.
