5 Tips To Check Your Gentlemanly Behaviour In SSB Interview

0
GENTLEMANLY BEHAVIOUR IN SSB INTERVIEW

GENTLEMANLY BEHAVIOUR IN SSB INTERVIEWMost of us who have been to the SSBs or who are dreaming to go there have already been acquainted with the 15 OLQs. Some of you have learned them by the heart and follow them in your routine while some of you merely know them by the definition. The moment a candidate enters the premises of the SSB centre, his/her entire body language changes to some extent as if they are under the gaze of some assessors continuously. While you don’t have to act all stiff in the SSB Centre’s premises but then again you don’t have to act all casual too. You are going to the SSB with the aim of getting recommended for the armed forces and further to be an officer and if you are going to be an officer, then you better act like one. The official Dos, Don’ts, rules and regulations pertaining to the conduct of the candidates are told beforehand by the DSO in the initial briefing. Also, the NCOs make it sure that the candidates are well aware of the manners and etiquettes that are usually followed in the premises of the SSB centre. But, there are some things which aren’t being told officially to the candidates and rather are expected from them by looking at their aspirations and qualifications. Let’s have a look at some of the gentlemanly behaviour that is expected from an SSB candidate.

5 Days SSB Interview

  • Follow all the official rules and regulations:

It is expected that a gentleman candidate will adhere to all the rules that have been told to him. A gentleman doesn’t find it amusing to break the rules that are made and enforced keeping his best interests in the mind. All the Dos and Don’ts that he has been briefed about should be followed religiously as failing to do them may result in packing the bags and leaving for home. For example, most of the centres have prohibited the use of smartphones and submit them on the first day itself. But, some candidates find it quite rebellious to sneak their smartphone and use it during their stay. The smartphone is submitted so that the candidates can mix up with each other and form bonds within the group. Such fraternizing helps them in understanding each other’s ideas and expressions during the GTO tasks as well but sticking to a smartphone won’t make that possible.

  • The use of facilities and related etiquettes:

Certain kind of facilities is provided to the candidates during their stay in the centre such as mess, anteroom, CSD Canteen, phone, internet, sports and accommodation. Each of these places has unsaid rules that are mutually understood by all and followed as such by the majority. For example, you don’t waste food in the mess by not taking more than you need and also, leaving the furniture in the state you would like to find. You only buy stuff that you need urgently from the CSD as you may not be eligible for the same but it’s been provided to the candidates in case they require something urgently. Likewise, the number of phones and computers are less in number while the number of candidates who want to use them is far. A gentleman candidate should not spend his leisure time on these so as others needy candidates can use them within the stipulated time. It is seen that some of the candidates use them to talk on an hourly basis while some remain in the queue just to inform their parents. Such behaviour is ungentlemanly and crass. Your living quarters are maintained by workers but your bed and the cleanliness of the toilets as well as the accommodation is your responsibility. Make your bed as you leave for the tasks of the day and ensure that all garbage goes into the dustbin.

  • Dress like an officer, act as an officer:

If you are aspiring to be an officer then you better act like one in all the manners. Accurate dressing sense is a thing that can impress people in just one go. It is aptly said that the way you carry yourself in the public can raise eyes and people get impressed by a person who has dressed according to the occasion. A gentleman should know how to dress inside the premises and during the tasks. Though you are told the dress code for each place certain candidates don’t try to act in cohesion with the group. You can’t wear shorts to the mess as it’s a formal setting to dine and similarly, you should go in a dignified manner to all public interaction places in the SSB centre. Likewise, if you are going out in the city with your group then ensure that you are not wearing something flashy that says you are new in the city. You are representing the armed forces and SSB Centre outside the premises of the centre and that’s why you shouldn’t get into any kind of illegal or notorious activities. You should also refrain from doing anything dangerous such as swimming in a river that can put your life in danger.

  • Get outside of your comfort zone and interact with people:

Many candidates stay aloof and don’t try to mingle with other candidates. SSB is a lifetime experience and you can’t find like-minded people with such diversity anywhere except here. Most of the candidates belong to the same age group and have the same set of aspirations but different knowledge and experiences. You can interact with them to know about things and fields that you are unaware of in general. I have made countless friends in the SSBs and that’s why I don’t have to worry when I go to any new city as some of the other friends will usually help me. I was unaware of many job prospects and further educational opportunities but I was taught about them by my fellow candidates. Hell! I scheduled a number of interviews for the job when I was out from the SSB with the help of one of my SSB friend. The friends that you make at SSB will always help you further in life. Get up from your bed; go out with the group even when you have been to the city previously. Don’t sit at one corner and rather play sports with your group mates as it enhances the bonding. A true gentleman extends the hands of friendship to all as SSB is much more than just getting recommended.

  • Don’t discuss to prove others wrong:

The easiest way to make enemies or to fall out of favour from people is to prove them wrong in a discussion. It is generally seen that when candidates discuss things or if they are interacting with each other in order to gain knowledge, a few of them the, take it upon their ego and try to discredit the others. Look, your goal is not to prove people wrong and rather it is to share the information in such a way that people should favour your perspective. Of course, you should have your own views and an original stand about any issue but that should be used to gain friends and influence people in a positive manner. A true gentleman candidate always views things from other people’s perspective too.

A gentleman candidate adheres to the rules and regulations of the establishment in which he is going to get assessed for his future career and aspirations. There is no fun in breaking rules as it is ungentlemanly behaviour and uncalled for a candidate.

ssb interview e1555917926810Hello Aspirants, I hope you are doing great. I am Arvind Kaushik from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. I am a student of Army Institute of Technology Pune. I got recommended for CDS(IMA)-DE-147 course in my 2nd attempt from 17SSB Banglore. It was my mother’s last wish to see me serve in the Indian Army. I am very glad that I could fulfill her last wish. In my 1st attempt, I got screened out from 2AFSB Mysore (AFCAT) entry. I was not well prepared. I took precautions and started my preparation through SSB Crack. Talking about this attempt. REPORTING: We were asked to report at KSR Bangalore station at 2:00 pm on 21st March. A bus brought us to the SSB and verification started after that. About 53 candidates reported. After completing verification we were allotted chest numbers and accommodation. My chest number was 13. I being interactive made many friends. This played a vital role in my recommendation. DAY1: -SCREENING: We were briefed by the psychologist and the OIR test started. I attempted 45 odd questions in both the booklets. Then came PPDT. I observed the picture carefully and made a decent story in the given timeframe.
My narration was not up to the mark as I got stuck multiple times. In group discussion our group was divided into two groups. Two common stories came up. The group nominated me to give the common story. I thanked the group for their trust and ensured that I included the stories of both the groups in the final common story. I made it through. 24 got screened in out of 53 reporting candidates. In the afternoon we were briefed about the procedure ahead. We had our lunch and went back to our accommodation.

DAY 2 :- PSYCH DAY.
On the psych day morning, we had our batch photoshoot. After getting clicked we moved on to the hall. A Lady briefed us and the tests started.
TAT :-
I completed all my TAT stories in the given timeframe. I made stories on the things I have done in life and also on the things mentioned in my  PIQ form.  Valuable suggestions from seniors worked well for me in TAT.
WAT :-
I did all 60 WATs. I ensured that I kept it short, meaningful and it expressed my point of view and psychology. Doing written practice with time limit prior to SSB helped me. I regularly consulted seniors regarding my responses and their suggestions helped in refining my responses.
SRT :-
I did 57 SRTs. The written practice helped in increasing speed in SRTs.
SD &PIQ:-
I was very honest in SD and wrote the genuine opinion of my parents, teachers, friends. After that, we filled our PIQ form. We were informed about the interviews on that day. My interview was on the same day. I didn’t get the opportunity to change clothes, immediately we were ushered into a waiting room.
INTERVIEW:-
My interview was taken by the Deputy President of the board. I greeted him, shook hands and the interview started. He asked personal questions and I answered them well. (In my opinion*).
There were some questions which I believe, turned the game into my favour.

IO (Interviewing Officer) :- Why do you take tuitions? How do you manage between academics and teaching?
Me:-
Sir in 2017, my mom passed away. At that time the financial situation of the family was not that good. I didn’t deem it to be fair to take large pocket money from my father. I decided to assist him and started talking tuitions. I did hard work and balanced both.
IO (Interviewing Officer) :- Why do you want to join Indian Army?
Me:-
1. ) My father served in the Indian Army for 22 years. His personality has influenced and motivated me.
2.) In 2017, when my mom passed away, army stood by us and helped us until the last moment. For that I am indebted to the organisation and want to serve in it. Secondly, my mom, being a soldier’s wife desired to see her son in uniform. That motivated me, even more, to work harder.
*He asked me about my Guinness world record. I answered all his questions regarding that.
He grilled me with technical questions. Example GSM, CDMA, Mobile antenna and RADAR. I answered as much as I knew and for the ones I didn’t know the answer , I promised to find the answer and let him know later. He asked questions on athletes of the sports I mentioned in the PIQ form. I answered them properly. He asked about the places I have been to Pune. *As I am currently staying in Pune. Failed to answer many questions, but promised him to find out the answer and let him know later. There were many questions I couldn’t answer, I kept my calm and answered the other well. He wished me all the best for the next stage of testing and I left.

DAY3 :- GTO-1.
On the previous night the whole group discussed and came to a conclusion to cooperate with each other in the GD and the subsequent tasks.
The First GD started . Everyone got the opportunity to speak. No one was cut in between. I added 6 to 7 points properly supported with facts in the group discussion. We had a very healthy GD. Same was the case with other GD. The other GD not being a vast topic involved only opinions of the group members rather than facts &figures. I contributed with 4 to 5 points. We moved on to the GPE. GPE did not go well. As I was trying to summarise and priortise the problems and the group directly jumped to the solution. I went with the flow. Our group reached a common solution to the problems.
The subsequent tasks went on well. I gave ideas in the PGT. We could complete only 3 obstacles out of the given 4.
Then We had the GOR . Our group’s war cry was “ Vande Mataram “. Our group won the GOR. We were very excited and filled with Josh.
Then we moved on to lecturette. I had prepared very hard for the lecturette by studying international relations and major happenings . But the topic I got was “ India in sports”. My lecturette did not go well.
The final task was HGT. Chest no 5,6,7 and me were team in HGT. We had a very good compatability and coordination. The task was done in 2 to 3 minutes.
DAY4:- GTO-2.
The day started with Individual obstacles and I did 9 Obstacles.
Then was Command task. I was called by 3 group mates for help. My task was very tough. There were 3 rows and 3 structures in each row. GTO asked for the solution through all 3 lanes.
I failed to give one solution and rest of the task was good.
FGT was very easy. We performed as a group and did well.
DAY 5:- Conference.
We were briefed by the Deputy President. My conference was very short . About 40-50 seconds. The Deputy president asked about the places I have been to in Banglore, about stay at ssb and to rate my performance.
I answered  the questions and left.
RESULTS :-
The psychologist came up with results. He announced my chest number. I was elated, happy that I finally made my dream as well as mom’s and family’s dream come true. I remembered the tough times. I was an unplaced student until then. Regardless of my situation , I continued working hard and kept studying things related to SSBs.
I was blessed enough to be a part of such a nice group. I miss my group a lot.
Such jovial ,energetic , compassionate and talented people. I wish so hard to live the moments again. The 4 days with them.
I give the credit of my recommendation to my Parents, teachers, friends, and my group.

3 e1555918062983

5 of us made it through. Chest no 6, 10, 16,18 and me (Chest no 8). I feel that all 4 of them deserve their recommendation. They might not feel the same about me (Humour intended). It was a life changing experience. I thank SSB Crack for being a continuous source of motivation. Aspirants, If any help needed, feel free to contact me on facebook. I am always ready to help and contribute. All the best.

Wg Cdr Abhinandan Recommended For Vir Chakra By IAF

abhinandan vir chakra

abhinandan vir chakraThe India Air Force is recommending Wg Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman for the wartime gallantry medal Vir Chakra for shooting down an F-16 in aerial conflict with Pakistan. While Abhinandan has been recommended for the Vir Chakra, the 12 Mirage 2000 pilots who bombed targets in Pakistan are being recommended for the Vayu Sena Medal for gallantry for their acts of bravery, government sources said. The Vir Chakra is the third highest gallantry award in the military during the times of war after the Param Vir Chakra and the Mahavir Chakra. In the meanwhile, amid concerns over Abhinandan’s security, the Air Force has posted out the ace fighter pilot from Srinagar to another important air base in the western sector along the Pakistan border. “The posting order of the officer has been issued and he would soon be moving out of the Srinagar air base to his new place of posting,” government sources told ANI.

5 Days SSB Interview

The new posting (name of the airbase being withheld due to security reasons) is also a fighter base and if the officer is cleared for flying, he would be able to continue his flying duties, the sources added. Wg Cdr Abhinandan has the unique distinction of being the only pilot in the world to have shot down an F-16 combat aircraft from his vintage MiG-21 Bison aircraft on February 27 during aerial conflict with Pakistan. There were concerns over his security in Srinagar due to the presence of Pakistan-backed terrorist groups including a large number of Pakistani jihadis in the Kashmir valley. Pakistan has been very upset over the shooting down of its Block 52 F-16 fitted with AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles with superior strike ranges than the R-73 missile on the MiG-21 which was used by Wg Cdr Abhinandan during the aerial fight.

Despite its best attempts to cover up the shooting down of its F-16, the Air Force released radar images and other proofs that showed that the American-built plane was indeed taken out by the Indian pilot. Earlier this week, Wg Cdr Abhinandan underwent medical tests at a Delhi-based facility for becoming eligible to fly the MiG-21s again. Abhinandan has flown different types of fighter aircraft in the Air Force including the mighty Su-30MKI.

Wg Cdr Abhinandan Transferred From Srinagar Due To Security Concerns

0
Wg Cdr Abhinandan

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who is back in his squadron in Srinagar, is most likely to return to a fighter cockpit any time soon following the final clearance by the Bengaluru-based Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM). The 35-year-old IAF officer is all set to undergo a series of tests in the coming weeks, two IAF officials said on the condition of anonymity, according to a Hindustan Times report. Wing Commander Varthaman created history in military aviation by shooting down a Pakistani F-16 during a dogfight with the Pakistan Air Force on February 27, moments before his MiG-21 Bison was hit by an enemy missile forcing him to eject. Experts have hailed it as the first ever kill of an F-16 by a MiG-21 Bison, fighter jets of two different generations. He could be recommended for a Vir Chakra, India’s third-highest war-time gallantry award, the report said.

UPDATE: Indian Air Force transfers Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman out of the Srinagar airbase amid concerns over his security in Kashmir valley. Officer posted to an important airbase in the Western sector.

Lt. Anurag Shukla Indian Army Officer Lost His Life While Saving Fellow Soldiers

1
Lt. Anurag Shukla

Lt. Anurag Shukla followed the Chetwode credo that he has learned during his military training. First, the safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time Second, the honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Third, your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time. During an Army exercise in Karanpur area in Ganganagar district, a young officer martyred while trying to save a drowning jawan, police said on Friday. “A war is won, not by dying for one’s country but by making the enemy die for their’s” – Gen. George S. Patton. India and Pakistan relations have been strained and complicated since 1947. Needless to say, the various events since, have only complicated it further. Let’s summarize the happenings of the 4 wars and recognize the sacrifices made, to make up for the unscrupulous deeds of a rogue nation.

The Indo-Pak war of 1947 or The First Kashmir War
The first war fought between India and Pakistan started in August 1947. After independence from the British, states were given choices of joining either India or Pakistan. Kashmir was ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh but consisted the majority of the Muslim population. Hari Singh decided to stay independent instead of joining either of the countries. This decision backfired after Pakistan launched Operation Gulmarg.

1947

According to this operation, 1000 Pashtuns in groups of 20 each would cross into J&K and attack the valley by teaming up with the rebels. The first attacks took place at Thorar and Muzaffarabad(now in PoK). The destruction caused by the tribals made Hari Singh accede Kashmir to India in return for armed assistance. Airlifted troops of the Sikh regiment recaptured areas up to Poonch and Uri. The invaders supported by the Pakistani army continued abducting and looting the citizens of the territories. The year-long battle came to an end with the UN declaring a cease-fire line which gave two-thirds of Kashmir to India and one-third to Pakistan. Hence, India in the first war with Pakistan was considered victorious for defending two-thirds of the region.

The India-Pakistan War of 19651965
Between August and September 1965, Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar which planned on infiltrating 33,000 Pakistani troops into India. They were convinced that the Kashmiri populace would be discontented with Indian rule. To give a befitting reply, Indian troops crossed the international border thereby officially beginning the war. The 3 Jat regiment played a major role in capturing Dograi which was roughly 1 km from Lahore. It is considered one of the bloodiest clashes in India’s military history. Pakistan’s move to capture Amritsar, by moving towards Khem Kharan resulted in Battle of “Asal Uttar” where 97 Pakistani tanks were destroyed. The result was both countries capturing the territory of the other. Being the largest tank battle after WWII, 128 Indian and 150 Pakistani tanks were destroyed.1965 indian pak war

Since independence, it was the first time the IAF and PAF were involved in combat. Pakistan airdropped SSG commandos into India but only 25 returned with some being killed and others, taken prisoners. By the end, India had approximately 3000 casualties while Pakistan suffered in 3800. The war came to an end after the US and the Soviet Union intervened. Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers signed the Tashkent Agreement agreeing to withdraw troops by 25th February. The end didn’t see a victory, rather a ceasefire. However, Pakistan narrated to their citizens, fabricated stories of their own victory as usual.

The India-Pakistan War of 19711971

The third war unlike the previous two was not fought in or for Kashmir. The first Pakistan elections saw the Awami League lead by a Bengali, coming to power. This didn’t go down well because the cultures of two lands miles apart were strikingly different. To overcome the increased power play by Bengalis, West Pakistan launched Operation Searchlight. East Pakistan saw excessive military deployment and those who stood against West were massacred or arrested including the elected leader Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. The increased violence resulted in the creation of Mukti Bahini. India came into play when it received a high influx(approximately 10 Million) of East Pakistani’s fleeing to India.

With the increased burden on the already failing economy, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi felt it was feasible to go to war against West Pakistan. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (then COAS General Sam Manekshaw) set out conditions for the war that Indira Gandhi readily agreed to. The PAF’s air strikes in various locations in India was seen as an official declaration of war on December 4. IAF retaliated, while Indian Navy too had done their part. Mukti Bahini supporters were secretly trained by India through Operation Jackpot. The war ended with the largest surrender since WWII, by the Pakistan Eastern Command to the Eastern Command of India. It consisted of 90,000 troops and the instrument of surrender was signed between Lt Gen Jagjit Singh and Lt Gen A.A. Niazi on 16th December 1971.

The India-Pakistan War of 1999 or Kargil War1999

The winter sees abandoned posts on the Indian and Pakistani side due to severe weather conditions. Pakistan began reoccupying the posts in February 1999, along with a few Indian posts. Local shepherd tipped off the suspected movement of armed men in Kargil. The capture, torture and brutal murder of a patrol team lead by Captain Saurabh Kalia lead to the discovery of well-defended enemy posts on hills deep inside the Indian side of LoC. Thus was launched “Operation Vijay”.

Military mobilisation in Kargil-Dras sectors reached 30,000 in number. Pakistan had the advantage of higher terrains while strategically crucial locations like the National Highway was under direct fire. This turned out to be the first priority and hence capturing Tiger Hill and Tololing was a major advantage for the army. Majority of ridges was captured back by the army within two months of the conflict. By July 1999, Pakistan sought international support but was rejected. The U.S urged Pakistan to remove all troops from the Indian side of LoC. The war came to a halt on 26th July (celebrated today as Kargil Vijay Diwas).kargil war

The sour history shared by the two countries don’t seem to come to a halt as Pakistan still continues its infiltration and other operations covertly through state-sponsored terror outfits and another medium. Despite all the trouble from certain neighbour’s of ours, we, Indians are still strong as ever and will continue to fight for our country.
