Group Testing is based on the theory of gestalt. In GT the GTO looks at the candidates performing in a group, then gradually singles them out and gives a closer look and finally once again observes them perform in the group.

There is a total of 9 tasks conducted by the GTO. These are divided into three distinct phases as described below.

Basic Series

There are 4 tasks namely Group Discusssion, Group Planning Exercise, Progressive Group Task and the Group Obstacle Race. All these tasks are group tasks and performance in these is very important. In this series the group goes through three stages of development.

Confirmatory Series

The confirmatory Series comprises of four tasks/activities namely Half group task, Lecturette, Individual Obstacles and the Command Task. Of this normally the IO and CT are done on the second GTO testing day. In this series the GTO resolves his queries on each candidate by focusing more intensely on individuals as most of these tasks are individual in nature.

Final Series

This series consists of only one task namely Final Group Task. This is basically for the GTO to give a final look at the candidates performing in group before winding up the test series.

What is seen through these activities?

1. Your ability to grasp the rules and conditions of tackling the obstacles.

2. Are you logical in your approach?

3. Do you have practical work sense?

4. Are you able to use the resources appropriately?

5. Are you able to contribute to the group functioning?

6. Are you able to co-operate and work as a team member?

7. Are you able to communicate your ideas in a way that others understand it?

8. Your overall General Knowledge

9. Are you able to overcome frustration and difficulties faced during the task?

Most of the tasks in the GTO series are almost same. Keeping aside individual task in the GT, PGT, HGT, FGT have the same rules and are to be followed by the candidates.

Group Rule – This rule implies that all the members of the group must have crossed an obstacle before anyone can go to the next one. Since the approach is narrow and candidates can move one by one there will be some who will cross first and the others wi follow. Therefore make sure that even if you are the first to cross the obstacle wait for all the candidates to cross before you move on to the next.
Distance Rule – This rule implies that any distance that is more than four feet must be bridged and not jumped. For example if you find the distance between the start line and the first structure is roughly 5 feet, even if you are capable of jumping that distance, you are not permitted to do that. You are expected to bridge the distance by using the helping material. Do not violate this rule as it will mean that you lack grasp.
Colour Rule – This rule implies that the structures placed in the out of bound area, if it is painted white, it is inbound for candidates, the helping material and the load; which means it can be touched by all three. If it is painted red, it is out bound for all three: which means it cannot be touched by the candidates, the helping material and the load; and if it painted blue, it is inbound for the candidates but out of bound for the helping material and the load. Which means it can be touched by the candidates but cannot be touched by the helping material and the load. Note that the candidate can hold the load/helping material while standing on a blue coloured structure. The only condition is that the load/helping material should not touch the blue colour. Remember, violation of this rule can either mean that you lack grasp or may mean that you are casual. Both these conclusions are bad for you. Hence do not break this rule.
Rule of Rigidity – This rule implies that no two rigid helping materials can be tied together for making an extension. Since rigid helping materials are normally the planks and ballis, this rule means that you cannot tie plank and balli together. However, you can keep one on top of the other and also you can tie the rigid helping material to the structure. Violation of this rule will indicate lack of grasp or casualness.
Rule of Infinity This rule implies that the start line and the finish line should be imagined to be extending to infinity on either side. This means that you cannot walk through the sides of the task and have to tackle the obstacle head on. Also, be careful that you do not step into the area inside of the start line even if it is to the right of where the start/finish line finishes.

How to approach PGT/HGT/FGT. Keep the following points in mind.

Be a constructive member of the group.
Try and lead the group.
In case someone has taken the lead, support him by providing ideas.
Wait till all the members have crossed and be helpful wherever required.
Once a path has been chosen, do not divert the group to another approach. All paths will be almost the same difficulty level.
Be a team person and do not show off.
Do not keeping looking at the GTO.
Do not shout at others or throw the helping material.

NCC 52 SSB Interview Centre

Only shortlisted eligible candidates will undergo SSB at Selection Centres, Allahabad(UP), Bhopal(MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (PB). Call up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centre on candidates’ registered e-mail id and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, IHQ of MoD (Army) and No request for changes will be entertained in this regard.
Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interview is five days and details of the same are available on official website of Directorate General of Recruiting ie www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage II.
Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.

Indian Army has published the SSC Tech 30 women cut-off marks for shortlisting candidates for SSC Tech 30 SSB interviews. The Telecommunication and Electronics branch has the highest cut-off marks of 82%. Official Notification says “SSCW(TECH)-30 (OCT 2022) COURSE – CUT OFF PERCENTAGE FOR SSB SHORTLISTING (UPTO 6th SEMESTER CUMULATIVE FOR ENGG DEGREE COURSE AND 2ND SEM CUMULATIVE FOR M.SC COMPUTER SCIENCE).” Candidates who are shortlisted for SSC Tech 30 entry will be called for SSB Interview at SSB Bhopal, Bangalore, Allahabad, and Kapurthala.

SSC Tech 30 Women SSB Interview Process

Service Selection Board (SSB) conducts interviews for the selection of candidates suitable for training to the post of commissioned officers across all three forces. It is a comprehensive 5-day process divided into two stages after which recommended candidates undergo medical examinations. All the instructions for the documents to be brought along and dress code, etc are in the call-up letter available on joinindianarmy.nic.in and candidates are expected to follow all the guidelines strictly.

There is no language barrier as candidates may speak in Hindi/English or a mixture of both but not any other language.

Stage I : Screening Process

Dress Code : Formal Dress

All the candidates will report to the SSB Gate or railway stations as mentioned in call letter and after verification of documents will be allotted chest numbers . They will then be given breakfasts and taken for the testing .

First would be the Officer Intelligence Rating(OIR) Tests which comprise of two sets of question bank on verbal and non verbal reasoning. Earlier candidates had to write their responses , but nowadays OMR sheets are given to mark the responses. Every set has different number of questions and the time allotted also varies so listen very carefully to the instructors briefing before the test.

After that PPDT i.e Picture Perception and Description Test will start . This test takes place in two parts first the perception part and then the discussion .In first part candidates will be shown a picture (mostly blurry/hazy) for 30 seconds then in the next one minute they will record their observations i.e number of characters, their gender, mood and the action taking place in the picture. Then four and a half minutes will be given to them to write a story revolving around their observations .

With completion of this test candidates are taken out of auditorium , have snacks and then sorted into groups as per their chest numbers . Then one by one groups are called for discussion test . here one minute will be allotted to each candidate to narrate his story and after that the group has to discuss and form a common story which will in turn be narrated by a candidate selected by the group. After discussion of all groups end results will be announced and shortlisted candidates will stay back for Stage -II testing while remaining candidates will be sent home.

Stage – II Testing

The stage II testing takes place over the next three days concluding with the conference on fifth day.

Day -2 : Psychology Test

Dress Code : Formal Dress

This will comprise of four tests each followed immediately after the other as following

Thematic Appreciation Test (TAT) : Candidates are supposed to write stories based on 11 pictures and a blank slide at the end(totalling to 12) shown to them in form of a slide show. They will be given four and a half minutes to write each story.
Word Association Test (WAT) : Candidates are supposed to write sentences/phrases/related word as they feel suitable on 60 words with 15 seconds available to write the responses for each word .
Situation Reaction Test : Candidates are supposed to write reactions to 60 situations in a total allotted time of 30 minutes.
Self Description Test (SDT): Candidates are supposed to write five paragraphs under the following headings:
What my Parent’s Think About Me/ Parent’s Opinion
What my Teacher’s Think About Me/ Teacher’s Opinion
What my Friend’s Think About Me/ Friend’s Opinion
What I think about Myself/My strengths / Self Opinion
What I want to improve about myself/ Improvements needed in self/ Weaknesses

Day-3 And Day -4 : Ground Testing Officer (GTO) Tests

Dress Code : All White (T-shirt, Shorts, Socks And Shoes)

The candidates are sorted into groups as per their chest number and then each group performs the followings 9 tasks under supervision of the assessor i.e the GTO . Mostly six of these are conducted on day -3 and rest on day -4. Sometimes they are all conducted in same day with breaks in between.

Group Discussions (GD) : The GTO at first gives two topics for the first GD out og which the group chooses one and then the group members put forth their views . For the second GD the GTO gives a topic and then the same thing happens again. Here there is no need for the group to come to a conclusion .
Group Planning Exercise (GPE) : The GTO explains a situation where there are various problems using a map of the place. After this the candidates have to first write their solutions in 10 minutes using all their resources which includes their group too. Then group members discuss among themselves on a common plan to tackle the problems, which in turn is narrated by one of the group members.
Group Obstacle Race / Snake Race: One of the most fun tasks in the whole process all the groups compete in a race crossing four obstacles which include single ramp jump, 8 -shaped bars, 10 feet wall, double wall, spider web, and ends with a giant slide. The rules to be followed are red colour shouldn’t be touched either by snake or my man. The snake is to be held by at least three members while crossing obstacles and breaking a rule gets a time penalty imposed by the GTO.

Progressive Ground Task (PGT): This one is actually a ground task where there are 4 different obstacle course each increasing in difficulty level ahead. The group is expected to move ahead tackling these structures using their helping material which may include a rope, plank, balli, etc. and there is a load to be carried also. The group is expected to follow all the rules given by the GTO which include:
(a) Color Rule:
White means for both man and material
Blue means only for man
Red is out of bounds for all

(b) Ground is out of bound for all

(c) Rigidity Rule : Helping materials can’t be tied with each other but can be tied with the structures

(d) Rule Of Infinity : The start and end lines extend to infinity i.e can’t be crossed directly .

(e) Distance Rule : No distance greater than 4 feet can be jumped.

Half Group Task : Similar to PGT but the group is divided into two and there is only one obstacle to be tackled.
Lecturette: An individual task where the candidates are expected to pick a card and then choose one out of the four topics on it which are of various categories and then speak on it for three minutes addressing his group
Individual Obstacles : The candidate is expected to cross all the 10 obstacles all giving different scores as would be indicated on them .The candidate may repeat the tasks but only after he has completed all the 10. Following are the ten tasks with their scores indicated in ().

Balancing Beam (3)

Burma Bridge (5)

Command Task: An individual task candidates are called one by one in a random order by the GTO where he asks them several questions and then explains them a task similar to PGT. Then he asks the candidate for this task a commander to call two of his group members as subordinates to help him in clearing the obstacle.
Final Group Task : As the name suggests the whole group is again given one obstacle similar to PGT which they have to cross together.

Personal Interview

Dress Code : Formal Dress

The personal interview may be conducted on any of the three days after the tests of that day are over . The Interviewing Officer based on data given by student in his PIQ( Personal Information Questionnaire) asks the student various questions based on his family, academics , participation in sports and extra curricular activities, hobbies and interests, responsibilities , general knowledge including about forces , personal life, etc. The timing of interview is mostly 40 minutes though it may stretch to one hour for some or even five minutes for some. Some of the mostly asked questions are :

In the conference room all the assessors sit together and discuss whether a candidate is suitable to be recommended based on his performance in all the tasks and if there is a doubt they further question him during the conference. The non doubt cases are asked almost the same questions which include about their stay , tests, food and all, any suggestions, etc.

After this the results are announced and the recommended candidates stay for medical tests while others are sent home.

Finally, Indian Army has published the SSC Tech 59 men cut-off marks for shortlisting candidates for SSC Tech 59 SSB interviews. The mechanical branch has the highest 72% cut-off. The rest all the branches are having cut-off marks of 60% except the Chemical Engineering branch with cut off as 63%. Candidates who are shortlisted for SSC Tech 59 entry will be called for SSB Interview at SSB Bhopal, Bangalore, Allahabad, and Kapurthala.

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a national level exam conducted by the Indian Air Force to select candidates for Class-1 Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). AFCAT 2 2022 Exam Syllabus

The Air Force Authority is scheduled to release the AFCAT 2 2022 notification on the official website of the Indian Air Force on 1st June 2022 at 11:00 AM. However, we can look at the previous year notification to get an idea of the AFCAT syllabus.

The AFCAT exam paper consists of subjects like General Awareness, verbal ability, reasoning and mathematics. Whereas the EKT consists of topics like Mechanical, Computer Science etc., the total number of questions for the AFCAT is 100 which can award a candidate total marks of 300. EKT has 50 questions out of a total of 150 marks.

(ab) General Awareness. History, Geography, Sports, National & International Organisations, Art & Culture, Personalities, Environment & Ecology, Indian Polity, Economy, Basic Science Based Knowledge, Science & Technology, Current Affairs (National & International), Defence.

Standard Of Questions. The standard of Numerical Ability Questions will be of Matriculation level. The standard of questions in other subjects will be of graduation level (Indian University).

AFCAT Scheme of Online Examination: All applicants whose applications are submitted by due date will be called for AFCAT at one of the examination centers on either 26 Aug 2022 (Friday), 27 Aug 2022 (Saturday) and 28 Aug 2022 (Sunday). Army Medical Corps Centre & College Passing Out Parade

A ceremonial parade was held at Officers Training College (OTC), Army Medical Corps Centre and College, Lucknow on the successful conclusion of Medical Officers Basic Course-238 on 30 May 2022.

The course comprised 116 newly commissioned officers including 30 lady officers with Tri-Services representation. The parade was marked by military precision and customary elegance and was attended by more than 200 proud parents and relatives.

The nine weeks course imparts intensive combat medical support training to young Armed Forces Medical and Dental Officers in order to empower them to effectively perform their duties and transform young doctors into medical and dental officers.

The ceremonial parade was reviewed by Lieutenant General Sandip Mukherji, Commandant, Army Medical Corps Centre & College, Officer in Charge Records, and Colonel Commandant Army Medical Corps.

Flt Lt Mayank Plaha was adjudged Best Overall Officer of the course and awarded Commandant’s Rolling Trophy and Capt Sahil Sharma was awarded Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra Memorial Trophy for being Best Officer in Field Events.

Five Mantras To Clear PPDT: The most horrifying thought nowadays among the defence aspirants have been getting screen-out. It’s really difficult to accept that because no one is given a further chance to show their potential in the psychology, PI, or the GTO rounds as the aspirants might be well prepared for that.

But it’s worth preparing for the screening round first rather than other things. So all the preparation should be going together for all the rounds. One must remember that SSB is altogether a different place and have a different taste altogether.

Here things are psychologically assessed, so it’s worth preparing differently by first understanding self and then practicing and working for various rounds. Even at PPDT, there would be three assessors so that there is no scope for mistakes in selecting the right candidates.

The GD is also different which happens after PPDT once everybody writes the story and narrates it individually. One should score well in OIR and write a story reflecting the OLQs showing the assessors that they have the potential to be assessed further in depth in other rounds. The following pointers might help:

Observe pictures carefully – People forget to do this and start writing the things they have read somewhere else or someone has asked them to write or taught them. Every personality is different and if you follow others’ personalities success will never be yours.
Make a blueprint in mind – Normally things should be made up in mind first in the given 30 seconds and then it should come on paper. Never change the things in between. Be original and live with it.
Keep it short with the flow intact – I have been assessing a lot of mentees for their stories and what I see in the majority of the cases is that the flow and the link are missing in most. Different stories cannot be altogether in one story. We only need one story with what led to the thing, what happened and what could be a probable ending.
It’s not an English writing competition, but a psychology test – People spend a lot of time in wring good words and beautiful English. It’s not that competition. Even if things are grammatically wrong but psychologically relevant you have the chance to get recommended. Though general mistakes might create a bad impression and hence avoided.
Don’t fight while discussing – It’s a discussion to get to a conclusion and not a ground to fight on a certain issue. So discuss, give everyone a chance, and don’t make it a fish market.

How to handle a fish market situation is very important and I would deal with it in a separate article. So try introspecting deeply to know first and then practice else the things might not match and mismatch will not give a recommendation.

AFCAT 2 2022 Exam Educational Qualifications:

Flying Educational Qualification:

A graduate candidate with a minimum of 60% marks and must have scored a minimum of 50%marks in Maths and Physics in 10+2 in 12th standard.
B.Tech/ B.E candidates who have scored a minimum of 60% marks and have scored 60% marks in maths and physics in 10+2 in 12th standard are also eligible for it.

Ground Duty Technical Educational Qualification:

The candidate must have B.Tech/ B.E degree in notified streams as mentioned in the official notification of the IAF with a minimum of 60% marks and have scored a minimum of 50% marks in Physics and Maths in 10+2 standard are eligible for technical entry.

Ground Duty Non-Technical Educational Qualification:

Administration and Logistics – Graduation degree with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Accounts – B.Com Degree with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
Education – Post graduate degree (MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International Studies / Defence Studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT /Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation) with minimum 50% marks, along with minimum 60% marks in graduation.

AFCAT 2 2022 Entry Type of Commission:

Permanent Commission (PC) for Men: Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation in their respective branches as per their rank.
Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men & Women: (i) The engagement period for Flying Branch SSC officers is fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Nonextendable). (ii) The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech and Non-Tech) branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit. (iii) Grant of Permanent Commission (PC) would be considered
subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability, and merit and as per prevailing policies on the subject. (iv) SSC officers are not eligible for grant of pensionary benefits.

AFCAT 2 2022 Question Paper Standard:

The standard of Numerical Ability Questions will be of Matriculation level. The standard of questions in other subjects will be of graduation level (Indian University).
The Online examination will consist of objective type questions and will be in English only for both AFCAT and EKT

AFCAT 2 2022 Marking Scheme:

Three marks will be awarded for every correct answer.
One mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
No marks for unattempted questions.

Questions will be based on the metric system of Weights & Measures wherever applicable. Candidates must appear for the Online AFCAT in person. Under no circumstance will any scribe or another candidate be allowed to appear/ assist in the exam. Air Force has the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.

AFCAT 2 2022 Exam and Fee Structure:

Online testing will be conducted for AFCAT entry at various centers. Candidates registering for AFCAT entry will have to pay an amount of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) as an examination fee. However, candidates registering for NCC Special Entry and Meteorology Entry are not required to pay. Details of conduct of the exam, examination centers, and mode of payment are available in the notification.

AFCAT 2 2022 Selection Procedure:

Indian airforce will conduct the AFCAT online exam across the country at different test centers. AFCAT 2 2022 online exam will be conducted around August 2022.
IAF will publish the results of AFCAT 2 2022 near September 2022 and candidates will be able to check their marks, cut off marks etc on the official portal i.e. afcat.cdac.in
Selected candidates have to choose their AFSB interview venue and date on the same portal.
The screening test is the first stage of the interview, which consists of verbal, nonverbal tests and a PPDT test. The selected candidates will stay at the centres for further selection tests and those who could not qualify it, would be set free on the same day.
The next stage consists of a personal interview, Psychology and GTO tests, PABT (for flying only), on the last day conference will be conducted after which, the final result is announced. The selected candidates are sent for medical examination.

Indian Air Force Cadet Training:

Training will commence in the first week of July 2023 for all courses at Air Force Academy Dundigal (Hyderabad). The duration of training for Flying and Ground Duty (Technical) Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments. PAN Card and account in SBI/ Nationalised Bank is mandatory at the time of joining Air Force Academy. Aadhaar Card is mandatory for registration.

AFCAT 2 2022 Important Dates:

AFCAT 2 2022 online registrations are open from 1st June 2022 to 30th June 2022.
AFCAT 2 2022 online exam date will be announced on 1st June 2022.

NOTE: Online Registration for AFCAT 2 2022 will commence on 01 June 2022 (11:00 AM) and will close on 30 June 2022 (05:00PM).
