12 Ways To Stay Calm In SSB Personal Interviews

Selection of candidates for various appointments purely on the basis of written tests is a thing of the past now. Whether it is selection for a job, training, or admission to a professional course in college, there is definitely an interview or personality test.

A candidate who aspires to a successful career, an individual who wishes to have a bright future, or a competitor who is determined to top the list, must master the technique of performing the best in the interview.

The interview is an effective evaluation and comprehensive study of a candidate which cannot be inferred from the examination system alone.

Lecturette Topics eBook SSBCrack

It is a face-to-face interpersonal appraisal in which the interviewer asks a set of questions to the candidate, in order to assess the capability and suitability of the candidature for the job.

The aim of an interview at the SSB is to get an insight into the candidate’s personality and assess the ‘Officer like Qualities’ by means of a direct and subjective conversation between the Interviewing Officer (IO) and the candidate. This test intends to judge the mental caliber of a candidate by a competent unbiased observer.

Now once you are in the interview room, the IO may offer a handshake and ask you to be seated in the hot seat! Your palms may be sweaty; voice shaky; face flushed and mouth parched. Your heart is racing and stomach is tossing.

Phew, you are nervous! When you sense that you are in a high stakes situation, the brain doesn’t distinguish the high stakes of an interview, where it should help to be calm, composed and collected from the risks of being under threat from an attack (like a tiger). Your body responds the same way-gearing up to run and save your lives. So in order to perform well in the SSB interview, you need to Free yourself from the Anxiety of being in an interview.

Staying cool and calm during the interview projects an air of confidence that is appealing in a candidate. Let’s discuss ways to stay calm during an SSB interview.

  1. Be Prepared.
The biggest piece of advice to any candidate appearing for an interview is, do your research.  Know about the type of questions that will be hurled up at you. When you have prepared well, you can talk well, interestingly and forcefully during an interview. It majorly depends on how you say or represent it rather than how much you say it. The more you know, the more confident you will be in responding to the questions. Be prepared in every way!
  2. Plan.
Being prepared also means to plan whatever you can, ahead of time. The fewer details you have to worry about the day of the interview, the better. Don’t wait until the last minute!
  3. Rehearse.
Don’t memorise the exact answers to the probable questions but do have an outline of what you are going to speak or talk about to convey your desirable message. Anxiety gives you space to be under prepared as it stores unpleasant thoughts about the interview and gives you a reason to be nervous. Practice makes prepared!
  4. Eliminate the fear of unknown.
There could be many things that may make you nervous, give goosebumps and cause you stress before the interview. So as much as it is possible, try eliminating them. Keep all pre-requisite information, from the kind of dress you have to wear at the interview to retaining what you had written in the PIQ form. Just be sure!
  5. Relax while waiting outside.
While you are seated outside waiting for your turn, allow yourself plenty of time to gather your thoughts, breathe and center yourself. Remind yourself this is just a conversation to determine fit on both sides!
  6. Think positively and be confident.
Prior to the interview, visualise yourself doing a great job, answering the questions satisfactorily and clearly and impressing the IO. If you experience shaky hands, carry a handkerchief; if you have trembling voice or butterflies in the stomach, take several deep calming breaths. Try to maintain a natural smile. Remember you are asked to come in for the interview for a reason!
  7. Think friend, not foe.
The interviewing officer is not a friend, but he isn’t an enemy either. Don’t think of him as hostile or the enemy would get your adrenaline go fast, leaving your good senses behind. Remember that he wants to learn about you to see if you are right for the Armed Forces!
  8. Sit up straight and don’t fidget.
When you square your shoulders and sit up straight, your voice naturally projects better and in flow than if you are hunched over. You will also have an appearance of confidence, even if you’re trembling on the inside!
  9. Normalize.
Don’t stress about the fact that you are in stress or anxiety. We all experience stress to a degree, just dial that anxiety down so it doesn’t get in your way of being the best!
  10. Focus on your strengths and purpose.
Stress has a way to make the best of us feel like unqualified losers. You are there for a purpose. Ask yourself, if you were to be recommended for this service, what are the reasons why? Nothing burns through panic like purpose!
  11. Breathe and take your time.
When you are stressed or nervous, you tend to take quick shallow breaths. Take deep and full breath and relax. Take time to formulate your thoughts that allow you to provide a well thought out answer. When you are relaxed, you think more clearly!
  12. Accept the fact that mistakes will happen.
This service employs you not for being perfect, but for your flexibility and resilience. Take the pressure grip off you and behave naturally. We are all humans!

Param Vir Chakra translates as the “Wheel of the Ultimate Brave”, and the award is granted for “most conspicuous bravery in the presence of the enemy”. As of January 2018, the medal has been awarded 21 times, of which 14 were posthumous and 16 arose from actions in Indo-Pakistani conflicts. Of the 21 awardees, 20 have been from the Indian Army, and one has been from the Indian Air Force. Major Somnath Sharma, was the first recipient. A number of state governments of India as well as ministries of the central government provide allowances and rewards to recipients of the PVC (or their family members in case of the recipient’s death). Only 21 military personnel have received this award to date

All About Indian Army’s Multi-Mode Hand Grenade ‘Shivalik’

0

The Shivalik grenade is an indigenous grenade to India. It was developed by the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory, TBRL, a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organization, DRDO, which is located in the foothills of the Shivalik mountains near Chandigarh, and hence, derives its name from here.

spot_img

Let us understand more about the multi-mode Shivalik hand grenade.

There are four basic types of hand grenades:

  1. Fragmentation
  2. Illumination
  3. Chemical
  4. Incendiary

The multi-mode hand grenade was developed as a replacement for the vintage hand grenade 36M.

For several years now, the Indian Army has been using the World War vintage 36M hand grenade. The number refers to a variant of the ‘Mills Bomb’ which are British origin grenades, which are also pineapple shaped. These grenades can also be fired from a rifle. The 36M have been manufactured by the facilities of the Ordnance Factory Board, OFB, for the Armed forces.

The most highlighted feature of Shivalik grenade is that it does not explode until the safety pin is removed, unlike the vintage grenade, which could go off accidently.

Also Read: Types Of Grenades And How Does It Work?

The Shivalik grenade offers more in terms of safety, dual mode capability and lethality.

Its twin delay tubes ensure high reliability. Additional safety to the soldier is provided through a minimum 0.5 second arming delay. Further, the grenade has a dual mode capability of a ‘defensive mode’ or an ‘offensive mode’.

The grenades been used by the forces in India till now have mainly been the defensive mode grenades, which means that they are to be hurled when the thrower is in a shelter or has cover, and the target is in an open area and can be harmed by fragmentation.

On the other hand, the offensive grenades do not fragment, and the adversary is harmed by the blast or is stunned while the thrower is safe.

spot_img

Defensive Mode:

In Defensive Mode, the Grenade is complete as it is assembled with its Fragmenting Sleeve. This mode is used while the soldier is under shelter and the enemy is in the open. Lethal radius is achieved up to 8m from the point of burst.

Offensive Mode:

In Offensive Mode, the Grenade is without its Fragmenting Sleeve and is used for ‘Low Intensity Conflict’ as it offers a stunning effect only. This mode is used while the soldier is in an attack mode. Lethal radius is achieved up to 5m from the point of burst.

Shelf Life:

The shelf life of these grenades is a minimum of fifteen years from the date of manufacture under normal storage and packed condition.

Operational Characteristics:

  1. Delay time -/+ 0.5 Seconds
  2. Operational temperatures vary from -20 C to +55 C
  3. Storage temperature ranges from -20 C to +55 C
  4. Uniform fragmentation pattern
  5. High lethality
  6. High reliability (> 95%)
  7. Safe for para dropping in primed condition
  8. Maintenance free

The grenade has three basic modules: the fuse, the body and the launcher tube. These different modules can be assembled or dissembled with ease.

This indigenous grenade saves the army approximately INR 200cr every year.

As seen above, the multi-mode, indigenous hand grenade ‘Shivalik’ is one to reckon with. Its ability to change modes from defensive to offensive and vice-versa is commendable.

The changing of the modes does not affect its capability and lethality in any way.

Being indigenous to India, it also saves the Army crores of rupees every year as the whole manufacturing process is done in India.

The grenade is maintenance free and offers high lethality and reliability in extreme climates.

This Indian grenade is surely one to take into account.

Apache AH-64 Attack Helicopter Vs Mi-35 Attack Helicopter

Differnce-between-Apache-AH-64-attack-helicopters-VS-Mi-35-Attack-helicopter-1024x576

Recently India purchased 6 Apache AH-64E helicopters from Boeing and since then questions have been arised about why the government didn’t go for Mi-35 helicopters. In this article, we shall learn about the differences between the two Helicopters.

spot_img

APACHE AH-64 Attack Helicopter

The most sophisticated multi-role combat helicopter in the world is the AH-64 Apache. India is the 16th country to choose the Apache, which is also used by an increasing number of other foreign defence forces. There are 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters in the Indian Air Force’s fleet. Boeing and the Government of India inked a contract in 2020 for the purchase of six AH-64E Apache helicopters for the Indian Army.

The AH-64E is a cutting-edge, multi-mission helicopter that incorporates the most recent technological advances and upholds its position as the best attack helicopter in the world. It is the only combat helicopter on the market with a broad range of capabilities, including increased thrust and lifts, joint digital operability, improved survivability, and cognitive decision support, to meet almost every mission need.

AH-64 Apache armaments from Boeing

Under the fuselage is a 30mm automatic Boeing M230 chain cannon with a rate of fire of 625 rounds per minute. The helicopter has a maximum capacity of 1,200 rounds.

The Lockheed Martin/Boeing AGM-114D Longbow Hellfire air-to-surface missile, which features a millimetre wave seeker and can operate in full fire-and-forget mode, is mounted atop the AH-64D. 8 to 12 kilometres is the range.

Mi-35 Attack Helicopter

Rostvertol, a division of Russian Helicopters, is the company that makes the multipurpose combat helicopter Mi-35M. It is a Mi-24 Hind assault helicopter export model.

Mi 35 Attack helicopter
Indian Air Force Mi-35 Attack Helicopter

The helicopter, which was primarily created for assault and military transport operations, boasts a flight performance and manoeuvrability that is superior to those of its forerunner.

Mi-35M manufacturing commenced in 2005. For the purpose of attacking ground-based armoured targets and providing air support for ground activities, the aircraft incorporates modern, high-precision weapons. It can be reconfigured to serve as a platform for an assault, a ground assault, a MEDEVAC, or a transport.

One of the contemporary combat helicopters in the Russian Air Force’s arsenal is the Mi-35M. The military forces of other nations, including Venezuela, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, and Mali, operate it as well.

MI-35M attributes

The Mi-35M military helicopter, which is based on the Mi-24 Hind, features a number of upgrades, including reduced stub wings, a new rotor system, contemporary avionics, updated turboshaft engines, and a hydraulic system. The helicopter’s cockpit and other crucial areas are well-protected.

TAT ebook part 1 ssbcrack 324x324 1

The helicopter is 21.6 metres long overall, 6.5 metres wide, and 6.5 metres tall. In ferry mode, it has a take-off weight of 12,000 kg. It can transport up to 2,400 kg in payload or eight soldiers.

Difference Between Apache AH-64 and MI-35 Attack Helicopters

ModelThe Mi-35 originally existed as the Mi-24V’s renamed export version. Although I believe the Mi-35M and a few other Mi-35 derivatives are actually deployed under this moniker for the Russian federation. It’s not always simple to distinguish between 24s and 35s. Currently, Russia is using about 330 24/35’s aircraft. An enhanced AH-64 is the AH-64E. 2011 saw the start of E model deliveries. There are just over 800 D/E model AH-64 aircraft in US Army service. I have no idea how many 634 D models have previously undergone upgrades. In 2019, 50 new E models were slated to be produced to complement the D fleet’s conversion to E.
WeaponWhen fully armed, a Mi-35 is at 92 percent of its MTOW. There are still 1,878 pounds to go. If each soldier weighs just 250 lb with equipment, a complete troop load of 8 soldiers would add 2,000 lb. Therefore, you could probably transport 7 soldiers, or 6 soldiers if their combined weight is 300 lb. Therefore, you won’t get the best of both worlds when people claim that the Mi-24/35 can fly into a combat zone with a full cargo of infantry and armament systems. Either one or both will be yours. Either the soldier load stays lower or the weapon load is decreased. Alternately, you can dramatically cut the range by lowering the fuel load. This is in stark contrast to an AH-64, which is only at 77 percent MTOW and has more than twice as many cannons, eight laser or radar guided missiles, and 38 laser guided rockets (used since they are heavier and have an improved operability). Of all, an AH-64E doesn’t carry infantry, but it also doesn’t attempt to handle two tasks at once poorly. According to Russian doctrine, an AH-64 would support ground forces and escort for UH-60s and other such aircraft, whilst a Mi-28 would accompany Mi-8/17 aircraft. There are various reasons why Russia switched to the Mi-28 design in this regard (beside the vulnerable front mid-engine exhaust layout issue).
Used SinceThe Mi-35 appears to have been the first Russian Federation helicopter to be equipped with FLIR, glass cockpits, and GPS navigation in the early 2000s. You have to obtain a Super Hind upgrade from South Africa prior to that. Additionally, I would be concerned because the Mi-24/35’s 9K114 Missiles are still SACLOS directed, requiring the gunner to maintain a laser-like focus on pointing at the target to secure a hit. When it comes to guiding a missile while it’s moving, this doesn’t sound as simple as an automatically slaving laser guided system. The AH-64 has had FLIR, night vision, radar, head-based target acquisition, and exhaust suppression equipment since its first incarnations, but it wasn’t until until 1991 that GPS and more modern communication systems were introduced. The aiming system enables auto tracking for the laser guidance, which includes a laser range finder, and slaving of the gun system based on crew head location (where they gaze). Within 30 miles of the helicopter, the mast radar can track about 250 targets. The D versions may have been able to identify targets (although only the mast radar was visible over the horizon or tree line), and then another Apache firing the radar-guided AGM-114 utilising the targeted Apache’s information.
Who’s Better? The armour is the distinction where the Mi-35 might have a clear edge. Titanium armour for the pilots and protective glass for the cockpit are intended to shield the entire aircraft from 12.7 mm gunfire. The Mi-35 is basically a flying BMPIt is capable of transporting an infantry squad in the back as well as an assault helicopter, rockets, missiles, and other armaments.  The engines, fuel, crew, and propulsion systems of the Apache are unquestionably protected by armour, and the cockpit area is certified against 23 mm gunfire. The titanium “tub” that Mi-24/35 pilots sit in might shield up to 57mm explosive rounds if it performs similarly to the “tub” used by A-10 pilots.AH-64 is a pure attack helicopter.Only soldiers riding on one of the wings can transport troops. Similar to the Mi-24 and other Hind derivatives, the MI-35 is best likened to utility helicopters like the UH-60, which can be heavily armed in some configurations rather than assault helicopters.

Cracked SSB Interview to Join the OTA Chennai In 2nd Attempt

0

Jo log mehnat Ka saath Nahi  chhodte, Kismat unka haath Nahi chhodti. This is the quote that gives me the courage to try again, to be brave enough to accept the shortcomings and correct them, and to perform once more.

Hello everyone I am Mansi Baisoya, I recently got recommended from 14 SSB Allahabad CDS entry in my second attempt for OTA Chennai. Although it was my second attempt the journey has taught me a lot that I might not have learned otherwise.

spot_img

The journey has taught me to have faith in myself but the tyranny is that we highly underestimate ourselves. Underconfident is problematic as being overconfident deviates you from the goal.

I got screened out in my first attempt. But strangely the disappointment did not hit me immediately, when my chest number was not announced that time the immediate thought was” koi ni agli baar or aage jayenge”. This feeling was there because during the course of preparation I realized that our emotions can have great control over us so it’s better to control them.

I got home, now the slight disappointment kicked in but I promised myself that I shall never give up.

This time I went to Allahabad, when boarding the train the only thought was I will give my best shot, never ever did I think about recommendations.

99 was the reporting that day, talked to a few people, ate breakfast, got the chest number, and headed to the hall the pictures of captain Vikram Batra and Manoj Kumar Pandey sir instilled a wave of courage in me.

Did the OIR Test in the allotted time, had written the story, narrated it but in GD as usual no story was made. That was the time we all thought ki “hum sab to screen out hone waale hain” and what I was thinking was that “Jo bhi hoga dekha jayega, screening ho gaye to aage badhenge nahi to aage ki tyaari karenge”.

spot_img

Sir arrived with the results and my heart was pounding like anything. A total of 28 candidates got screened in and this was the first time I was hearing my chest no.

I was really really happy and informed my parents. We all were taken to the candidate’s lines. This was the best part of the journey. Here I observed a lot and got inspired by my fellow candidates. I was amazed by the enthusiasm that each and every girl had, the zeal that they had to make their dream come true. The next day was the psych test I did all the TAT stories all the 60 WAT all 60 SRT and the SD. The same day was my interview. I had to wait a lot but finally, I went in. My interview lasted for 1 hour 20 mins approx. It was from the PIQ and the current affairs.

Unexpected Questions were the physics behind the takeoff of a helicopter  (I am from a Biology background), then the dimensions of the room, the train number the exact timing of arrival etc. All in all, I feel the thing that worked in my favour was my calm and being natural.

The next day was the GTO we all got dressed up and ran to the GTO ground as warm-up groups were made and we were a group of 9 candidates.

I believe GTO is something where we have the opportunity to perform up to our full potential and if we are not able to we can improve in other tasks as well. The day started with the GD I made sure that I speak 6 or 7 times and also give others the chance to speak and the same goes for GPE. In PGT I believe my performance could have been better but when I wasn’t having ideas I was supporting my group fully. The best task Aws the snake race, where I got bruises but that was the task where the cohesion of our group was clearly seen. It was fun to help and get helped by my fellow candidates.

oir test and ppdt

The lecturette topic I had chosen was poverty .in the individual obstacles I performed 7 obstacles and returned with burns on my fingers and an aching body but that showed me my potential that yes I can perform and can perform even better.

The next day was the conference, naturally, everyone was worried about the results but ma’am told us you people have performed and now relax, so we all enjoyed by singing, playing table tennis, basketball.

My conference lasted for 20 mins I was asked about my experience here and some situational questions.

After this, we all had lunch and gathered where the result was to be announced.

Sir arrived, and all 28 candidates had the hope of getting recommended and I was one of them, sir started announcing and my chest no was the first one to be announced. I naturally could not register it immediately and then all I could think of was my parents, their dreams, and the hard work of sending me here. My good friend and I got recommended. But one did not so we hugged her and motivated her.

Lessons learned:

  1. Giving your 100 percent even if you have performed great in psych doesn’t mean showing complacency in the interview or the GTO. Never let your guards down.
  2. Prepare for the best and expect the first. This will help you absorb different emotions and sink in the results.
  3. Have flexibility in your approach, so that if one way doesn’t work you can go the other way.
  4. Do not ever compromise small happiness for your dreams. it’s true we all have aspirations we all have dreams but there should be a balance so that we don’t get exhausted.
  5. Never say never because life has its own course and we have our own which might not match hence it’s better to maneuver according to the situation.
  6. Learn from people around you personally, I learned a lot from the candidates when I was in the selection center.
  7. Do it for yourself, to make yourself proud.
  8. Do not announce your work to everyone, say you cleared the written part now you are heading for SSB, worst case scenario you did not clear it. What happens next is that people Question you, your progress etc and all this definitely does not make the journey easy. so as they say let success make the noise for you
  9. Some walks you have to take alone
  10. Take the first step and never shy away from accepting your flaws and be determined to correct them.
  11. Your patience and perseverance will show you your best results
  12. Muskarao, Jo hoga Dekha jayega.
TAT ebook part 1 ssbcrack 324x324 1

My favorite quote:

Your purpose is greater than the fear that limits you….andSangharsh jitna kathin hoga, Jeet utni hi shandaar hogi.

This was my story., I hope it could help those who are preparing as I myself got inspired by such stories and I was reading the same before my screening day.

And lastly, chase your dreams, be patient with yourself and be a Friend to yourself because it’s you that matters!!!

How to Improve Your Speaking Skills for SSB Interview

3

Aspirants, Group Lecturette is one of the most important GTO tasks. We all know that service officers while commanding their troops have to address their men at a short notice or give them instructions in their day-to-day activities. The officer should be able to talk effectively and forcefully.

Thus, there is a need for a defense aspirant to be quite efficient in the art of speech–making. This test is mainly to test whether the candidate has proficiency in speech making and effective speaking at a short notice.

People are never born good speakers. If one lacks this skill, it can be cultivated by constant practice. No need to worry Aspirants, You have the talent to be a good speaker. But most of us never realize that. To be a good speaker, we must have these essential qualities

OIR Test eBook SSBCrack

Here are some ways which will improve your communication skill.

  • Mastery over Language
  • Knowledge of current trends and affairs
  • Proper pronunciation and clear voice
  • No shyness and stammering
  • NO NERVOUSNESS
  • Correct gestures
ssb interview speaking skills
spot_img

Now we will look into each of them in detail-

  • Mastery over language-For effective speaking and command of language is most essential. If William Shakespeare, a half-literate man is able to master the language, it is possible for you to do so. Every day, search for some new words from an Oxford Dictionary. Pay attention to those words, which seem to be effective for powerful speech making. You should know the art of twisting a word according to a situation. While addressing the people, try to use simple words. Remember, your words should be of current use. Simplicity makes your speech more interesting for your audience.
  • Knowledge of current trends and mastery over facts: Command over facts and modern trends is important as mastery over language. If you are deficient in up-to-date knowledge of facts and trends on a subject, your speech will never impress your audience even if it has bombastic words. It is of no use coming unprepared for Lecturette in SSB. Preparation for GD will be enough for the knowledge of facts. Be cautious not to give any faulty information to your audience. Such an attempt will only demoralize you. You should have mastery over facts. Constant reading helps you to improve your knowledge.
  • Proper pronunciation: You may be a word wizard with a good knowledge of facts, but it is of no use if your pronunciation is bad. Your proper pronunciation will charm your speech. Pronunciation can be improved by listening to English news on English channels like CNN IBN, and NDTV, and listening to AIR. Make it a habit. You will have mastered a number of good pronunciations within a year. Cultivate friendship with a person who knows refined English with good pronunciation. Often go and talk with such people.
  • Correct gestures: You should have the correct style of delivering a speech. You have to keep their interest till the end so that they listen to you attentively. Try to end and begin the speech appropriately. The first impression is the best impression. Also, avoid sudden endings. Your gestures should be natural and impressive. Avoid acting like a clown on the platform. Your errors can be spotted by delivering your speech before your parents and asking them to note down your faults. Next time you try to improve your speech. This will make a steady improvement.
  • No shyness and nervousness: Shyness is due to some hidden fears. Some Great personalities were shy in their childhood but they overcome their shyness and achieved greatness. Shyness may prove deadly for a public speaker. To remove shyness, you should prepare well in advance and while speaking, keep yourself absorbed in the topic, and do not worry about the audience. Even if they do not encourage you, never mind it. Avail maximum chances of coming to public meetings. This is the best way to remove shyness. Take part in dramatic clubs and extracurricular activities. Your good speech may be tarnished if you are in the habit of stammering. It can be removed by certain exercises. Better consult an experienced person.
  • No nervousness: Some persons are prone to nervousness. Take 15 long breaths to overcome nervousness.
  • A good voice: You can never be a good speaker if you don’t have a good voice. Nobody likes harsh and rough voices. Try to copy some pleasant voice if you are possessing a rough voice. Some exercises are found useful for improving the voice. Moreover, in the SSB, GTO doesn’t look for how much you have spoken, but how you have spoken. Always try to give fresh and original ideas before the group in your lecture. Please avoid sarcasm while speaking. Talk slowly but steadily. Your voice should be neither high nor low. Maintain eye contact with your group members.
  • PRACTISE PAYS IN GOLD COINS. You should practice speech making and effective speaking long before you come for SSB. Speak a lot and try to build up your store of knowledge and pay special attention to the editorials written by Journalists. Take down notes if necessary. Practice for GD will automatically improve your storehouse of knowledge.

Recommended For Indian Navy In 7th Attempt 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme

Hello, everyone! I am Ashish Kumar Pandey and I am here today to share my success story and my SSB journey which took two long years for me to achieve my goal . I’m from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh but I am currently residing in Bangalore for my studies.

I am from a defence background as my father is in the IAF and he has always encouraged and supported me to make my dream come true. My first attempt was an NDA attempt in which I got recommended from SSB Bhopal but I was medical out.

I only got a week’s time to prepare for it and had even risked my board exams for the same. So at first when I didn’t get through, I was a bit disappointed but I did not lose my hopes and went for my next 5 attempts for 10+2 direct entries to SSB Bhopal, SSB Allahabad, SSB Kapurthala, AFSB Varanasi, SSB Bangalore. In all 5 attempts, I was conferenced out.

The ordeal of dealing with conference outs one after the other was heartbreaking but I saw one silver lining through it all – I never got screened out.

In my last attempt which was my 7th attempt through Navy 10+2 B.Tech Entry I got so well versed with all the SSB procedures that I gave my 100% and never thought I lacked anywhere. The Personal Interview was very grilling in my last attempt where they even tried to put me under pressure and tested my determination  but I was adamant and let them know that I was determined to get recommended but not desperate.

I feel that most of the repeaters commit a mistake by being desperate. They got egoistic and felt it hard to accept their rejection. I have felt it myself in my first couple of attempts too but I took my rejections as lessons to be learnt and improved for my next attempt.

I believe that never give up hope and always try again and again for success. There will be people who will try to demotivate you but never get demotivated.

Also I would suggest never take your group members to be your rivals but your friends, because I believe SSBs will come and go but friends are there forever.

Also I have played games and sports like volleyball and basketball, I played for myself and my own enjoyment. So never think that playing sports is important only for filling up your PIQ. You should play because you like playing and it will automatically come out in your personal Interview.

Even I like writing poetry and got into adventure camps include paragliding, parasailing, etc. and these activities really helped me to get refreshed and prepare me to get ready for the next SSB.

So, never give up. Believe in yourself. Keep a calmness of mind. No matter how much you get rejected, let that small ‘diya’ aflame in your heart and never let it burn down.

Be determined and not desperate. One day you will surely reach your goal and make yourself and your loved ones feel proud about you and your hard work.

Sierra Squadron for Females at National Defence Academy

In compliance with the judgment of the Honourable Supreme Court, the UPSC released a notice allowing females to appear for the NDA 2 2021 exam.

All the eligibility criteria remain the same for the male candidates.

Health and physical standards, infrastructure for females at the National Defence Academy, strength intake, nature of training and medical standards were left to be decided by the Ministry of Defence.

It was also specified that separate physical infrastructure and residential quarters with strict physical separation would be allotted to female candidates including separate bathroom cubicles, swimming, equitation, games, and sports facilities.

As per the female eligibility criteria stated in the NDA notification, the age limit, educational qualification, & marital status requirements for female candidates are the same as for male candidates.

A total of nineteen girls cracked the toughest UPSC Exam. Out of the nineteen girls, ten will be trained for the Army, six for the Air Force and the remaining three for the Navy.

At present, a total of eighteen squadrons exist at the National Defence Academy. A separate squadron for females, named “Sierra”, was proposed but was soon scrapped.

It has now been decided that the females joining the academy will be merged into the existing squadrons. This will ensure better integration and less division amongst the cadets based on gender.

Their training and education will be the same. Further, the PT master and the drill master will receive training at OTA Chennai to learn how women are trained there.

A woman officer and a woman doctor will be available at the academy amongst various other facilities like separate enclosures, washrooms, rooms, etc.

The Sierra squadron will be operational in three years’ time.

Merging females into all-male squadrons, giving training to PT and drills masters, deploying female officers and doctors and providing facilities for women, leads to gender sensitization.

Having a co-gender squadron leads to less gender-based discrimination and more team building.

With an increasing number of women wanting to give the NDA Exam, and with increased intake over the years, the Sierra squadron will soon be operational.

Once the initial gender bias and discrimination is weaned off, the Academy will become sensitized and there will be no cadet differentiating other cadets based on their gender.

In conclusion, with the Supreme Courts decision to let women join the National Defence Academy, there have been thousands of women who can realize their dream. This is progress in the right direction.

Slowly but surely, change is being brought in the country’s defence system. And allowing women join the National Defence Academy gives them an opportunity to prove they are just as capable as men.

I wish all women wanting to join the NDA good luck.

I hope this article was insightful.
